I used Yelp Projects to acquire quotes for a side yard landscape project and one of the companies to respond was Surf Side Landscaping. We set up a day and time for an on-site estimate. Rafael, the owner and his team arrived and we reviewed what I wanted done. Later he sent an itemized quote that broke out each line item. I appreciated that as he was the only company to itemize their quote. His quote was competitive and more attractive than others I received for the project. Later I contacted him again as I decided to add a few plants to the job and he only increased the quote minimally. The morning of the job, he and his teammate arrived on time and ready with mulch, shovels, and tools. They worked all day and did everything we had discussed. They cleaned the site when they were finished. They changed my eye sore side yard into something that now looks much better-as you can see in the attached photo's. Rafael is a good dude; his team was nice to work with and they showed up on time and kept everything clean. However, we had too many issues with our landscaping install to ignore. We were charged $1,000 more than what was quoted (initially given a $3,900 bill, which turned into almost $5,000). He "forgot" to quote me the disposal fee for dirt, and then his team cut up our irrigation electrical line and they couldn't fix it, so he charged us to install a replacement that now doesn't allow us control from the garage circuit board. I'm super bummed. I'm also still trying to fix the drip system that was installed for plants that aren't receiving water. The initial bid and work was fair, but the ending and further issues have been a complete headache. I'll have to hire yet another company to try and fix the irrigation electrical issues. read more
