It's also super convenient for me since it's just a 2-minute drive away, and I'd happily pay a little more to support a local spot like this. That said, I've been utterly disappointed by the customer service on multiple visits. On one occasion, I asked a question and later realized I was speaking with the owner (I recognized her from Instagram). She came across as very dismissive and annoyed that I was asking for help. On at least three other visits, I've had similar experiences with staff seeming irritated or put out when I asked questions or wanted to check out, but that shouldn't surprise me because culture is set from the top. I've tried giving them several chances because I really do love their products, but the customer experience has consistently been off-putting. I hope they stay around and just improve their outlook on their customers.

Over the years, I have found the owner, Brooke, to respond to most requests with some variation of "no." Do you carry a particular item? No. Can you order something specific? No. Can I exchange something? No. Can I return an item I purchased just a few hours earlier? No. The most recent example was a simple request for a 10-gallon plastic pot. Last week, I was told they were out of stock and to come back after Friday. When I returned this weekend, they still didn't have one. While walking through the nursery, I noticed a used 10-gallon pot and asked whether I could buy it. The answer was no, and I was told to come back next week. The problem wasn't that they were out of stock. Businesses run out of products all the time. The problem was the complete lack of initiative to help solve the customer's problem. A simple offer to order one when I first visited, or even an attempt to suggest an alternative, would have turned a frustrating experience into a positive one. Instead, I went to Armstrong and bought what I needed there. What makes this particularly disappointing is that Dana Point Nursery depends on the support of the local community. Most people want to support independent businesses, but customer loyalty is earned through helpfulness and service. Unfortunately, after several experiences like this, I have decided to take my business elsewhere.

He worked quickly, efficiently, and was communicative. The only point of feedback I'd have is to ensure that you know what you want done, as he will do exactly what he explains and what you discuss with him. If you are like me and far from an expert (or even knowledgeable) about your yard/sprinklers, ask him and he will very patiently diagnose and explain. Otherwise, if you simply point to *specific* issues, he will expertly take care of them to the exclusion of any more digging (no pun intended.) As an example, there was some collection of water around the base of a repaired sprinkler - he had done exactly what we discussed: replaced the sprinkler itself, but he had not worked on anything around it. Not his fault, and when I asked about it, he explained what the other issue(s) might be. Less scrupulous people probably would've taken the opportunity to upsell me. Even after the work was done, and his payment was in hand, I still found him in my front yard, ensuring that his work was done right and polished. How many people would've done that, instead of just driving off after being paid? I'll definitely be calling Brandon the next time I have any sprinkler issues.

I was so happy to find this place hidden of Ortega Hwy, I did a complete remodel on my back yard with their Designer Rick Wright. He is amazing and was super knowledgeable about everything that I needed for the project. He came out to our house and looked at the space and made recommendations on the spot. We ending up doing some beautiful privacy hedges around the pool with a couple of planters, and pavers around the pool with a beautiful Camphor and Willow Tree. Rick Wright was so helpful he told us about the Camphor Tree and how it repels mosquitos which has been a huge issue in our yard. And he recommended the Peppermint Willow Tree for over by our shed. I would have never known about these 2 trees if it wasn't for Rick's input and advice. We were asking so many questions and Rick was able to help us with everything, apparently he has been doing this for over 10 years so he made it really easy. The turn around time was fast we got our project done in less than 2 weeks. I highly recommend these guys and I highly recommend their designer Rick Wright! read more

They have a great selection, but what really stood out was how helpful and knowledgeable everyone was. Sharon and the team took the time to teach me how to care for my plants and improve the health of the ones I already have instead of just trying to sell me new ones. That really impressed me. He is incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and responsive. He reviewed our tree photos, diagnosed the pest issue immediately, and walked us through the exact treatment steps with so much patience.
