If I could give Caliscapes OC more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. Our landscaping project was the final phase of a much larger home transformation. After removing our swimming pool and building an ADU that now serves as my home office and gym, we wanted to redesign the entire yard into a peaceful Mediterranean style retreat. We also wanted to replace our old metal fencing with masonry walls to help reduce the noise from our busy street and neighboring homes. Oscar was the first person who came to assess our project, and from the very beginning we were impressed. He was incredibly patient and took the time to understand every detail of what we liked and what we hoped to achieve. In less than a week, he designed our entire yard and presented us with a beautiful 3D rendering, complete with the color palette, so we could visualize exactly what the finished landscape would look like. After that, Oscar and Victor met with us to review every detail of the project. They discussed the hardscape, explained what would work well, suggested adjustments where appropriate, and made sure we were completely comfortable with the final plan before construction began. The crew started the very next day. I've honestly never seen such a professional operation. My husband has an architectural background and has spent many years in the construction industry, and even he commented on how organized, efficient, and professional the entire team was. During the first couple of days, when the old concrete was being demolished and the site was being prepared, there were several large specialty trucks working in our cul-de-sac. Even with such a large operation, the crew was always considerate of our neighbors. If anyone needed to get through, they immediately moved their vehicles without hesitation. One thing that especially impressed us was Victor's management. He taped the project blueprint onto the wall of our ADU so every member of the crew could see exactly what needed to be done. Every phase of the project was completed systematically, and everyone always seemed to know exactly what their responsibilities were. It was obvious that this was a very well managed team. Ours was a fairly large project, yet the entire landscaping was completed in just a little over two weeks. Every morning the crew arrived promptly around 8:00 a.m. and worked until about 4:30 p.m. At the end of every day, they didn't just clean our yard--they also swept the sidewalks and even the street so everything was spotless before they left. I consider myself a perfectionist, so I naturally notice the smallest details. To my surprise, I honestly think Victor's team outdid me. Every concrete line, every planting, every finish, every transition between materials--everything was completed with incredible precision. Their attention to detail exceeded our expectations. The quality isn't just what you can see. According to my husband, the grading, drainage, irrigation, and underlying construction were done just as carefully as the visible landscaping. They even installed three separate irrigation systems for the different planting areas so each zone receives the appropriate amount of water. That level of planning and craftsmanship is impressive. Although Oscar's 3D rendering was already beautiful, the finished project somehow turned out even better. What used to be an ordinary backyard has become a peaceful Mediterranean retreat. The new walls noticeably soften the surrounding noise, and every morning when I open the curtains in my office and look outside, I still can't help but smile. Sitting in our courtyard with the gentle breeze and the soft sound of our wind chime has become one of my favorite parts of the day. We honestly feel like we've brought a little piece of a luxury resort into our own home. When we were initially comparing contractors, we found Caliscapes' pricing to be very reasonable. Looking back now, considering the quality of the workmanship and knowing that so much of what makes a landscape last is hidden beneath the surface, I honestly don't know how they deliver this level of quality at their price. My husband and I wanted to remodel our small backyard as it was filled with mostly dirt and overgrown weeds. We did not have a concrete idea of what we wanted at first but Oscar was great with helping us plan by guiding us and asking about how we wanted to use our space. He also created documents to submit to our HOA for approval, and he was able to make changes quickly when needed. Victor and the crew were on time, efficient, and timely with the work. It was greatly appreciated that everything was washed down and cleaned by the crew at the end of each day. They were also able to make quick adjustments when our neighbor had some concerns with the hedges we wanted to plant. Disappointing Communication and Lack of Professionalism ​I reached out to this business based on a recommendation for a project on a property we are currently purchasing. Despite Yelp's "10-minute response" claim, I received no reply to my initial quote request. ​When I called the following day, the experience did not improve. The representative I spoke with seemed disinterested and lacked basic industry knowledge, specifically struggling to differentiate between a California room and a sunroom. Despite asking for extensive details about the project, they declined to meet during our inspection window and failed to follow up afterward as promised. ​If a company isn't interested in a project, I'd prefer transparency over unfulfilled promises to follow up. Overall good experience with Caliscapes OC! Oscar came out and thoroughly listened to what we wanted to do then gave us a detailed and competitive quote with pictures. Everything was digital so it was easy to accept the quote and pay for the services online. No additional fees for credit card payments either which was very nice. The work was completed within two days which was much faster than originally anticipated. Everything was very professionally done, the workspace was clean after each day and they even provided their own portapotty. Communication was and still continues to be a bit of an issue. We had asked for explicit watering instructions for each type of plant since there is a guarantee on each plant for a specific amount of time. It took a few days to long after the job was complete to actually receive the written instructions, something both parties agreed upon well before the job started. Additionally a few of the planted trees in the backyard are very unhealthy looking which we informed the team of right away, well within the guarantee period. It has now been almost three months after completion of the job and we still have not been able to make any progress on fixing or replacing the dead trees. We will occasionally receive a call or text back but it does not seem like the issue is being taken seriously which is unfortunate. We had the BEST experience with Oscar and Victor while repairing and redesigning our backyard. They are thoughtful, reliable, creative, and mindful of budget concerns. We had a huge sloping/receding yard to bring back up to level so we wanted to improve the entire backyard while we did that without spending a fortune. Oscar made suggestions we hadn't even considered and it made a huge difference in the final result. Their pricing was competitive and we think we got more value from Caliscapes' plan and approach. We absolutely loved the 3D render they included. We also loved that they helped us incorporate a section for a G-scale train layout for our son, but also ensured we had water to the area for when it will be changed over to a food garden in the future. They were willing to work with an existing patio in order to keep our overall budget in line and they made the new added patio work really well with that existing design. Most impressively, they only took on one project at a time so we had a full team working, including the owner, Victor, daily on our yard until it was complete. They cleaned up the area everyday without reminders. We didn't have to worry our project would be completed on time. They also were willing to modify ideas as we proceeded and were very upfront in analyzing costs immediately so we could make an informed decision on the changes. Caliscapes OC completely redid our front and back yards two years ago. We wanted to reduce water usage, lower maintenance, a flowery cottage garden appearance in the front and a small amount of grass in the back. We requested a fire pit, an area for a greenhouse, a DG driveway and three new trees. We had the same wonderful experience as seen in all the other reviews for Caliscapes. A year and a half in we decided that the DG driveway was not working for us, due to a slight slope and a rainier than usual winter. We contacted Victor and he recommended a small rock material for the driveway. At the same time Victor offered to do some refreshing maintenance on the rest of our DG, flower bed mulch, plants (we do our own gardening) and even fertilization. Oscar also came out while the work was being done, to assess the health and condition of the plants he had selected for us the year prior, and to ask if we had any questions. Fast forward another few months. The new driveway material is working out beautifully. We recently noticed some excess water in a flower bed. Again, we do not have a gardener, so we asked Victor's advice. He came out the same day, and sorted things out for us. What ultimately made us choose Caliscapes was they were the only company that gave us a detailed itemized estimate. I've had bad experiences with other contractors raising prices for "extra work" that I had originally told them I wanted done but they claim wasn't included in the estimate. That won't happen with Caliscapes OC because they describe in detail everything that is covered. We had Caliscapes OC install artificial turf, gravel, plants, lights, and concrete. We asked them to color match our existing concrete as much as possible as we wanted to save money. They did a great job of that. Oscar had laid out on the grounds at the Nursery, based on our front and backyard dimensions using the 3D drawings that Oscar created, his plant suggestions on all the types of low maintenance flowers (with an array of colors) and trees we could have.
