shocked to see some of the negative reviews. i had a great experience getting my microlocs installed. for transparency, i got the following services: loc consultation, shampoo, conditioner, microloc install i have salon trauma from people's hands being too rough with my scalp. i always thought of myself as tenderheaded. but this salon was completely affirming and pain free. from the compliments on my hair to the easy laid back vibe of the salon, i loved it. the woman who did my shampoo and conditioner had to detangle my hair cause i didn't do it beforehand and it didn't hurt at all. same with getting them installed. no pain and left with a great diamond grid. everyone on time. and not bad price wise at all. will update when i go in for a couple of retwists but so far no complaints. read more

Sincerely, I would not recommend this place based on my experience with coloring and customer service. I used to recommend this place to all friends and family but based on my recent experience, I would never want them to go through what I did. The intent of my review is not to slander the business' name, but to give an honest recap of the service I received. I have been a customer of this salon's LA location for years so I feel qualified to speak on this. I've always had some minor grievances about the way business was conducted but I chalked it up to the game (salon culture). I booked a virtual consultation and price was not discussed during this time. I was not given a range or a ballpark figure. After I texted the hair colorist for an expected price range. I was quoted $380 for double color processing. She asked for pictures of my hair to get an idea of the length. The price was not adjusted after she saw the pictures. After much confusion about the total pricing of my services I reached out to the business owner. I wanted to talk to someone who wasn't confused and I felt like I had a relationship with him (because he normally retwists my hair). On the phone I expressed my dissatisfaction with the process of getting my locs dyed, and I was met with conduct unbecoming of a business owner and unbecoming of a seasoned, professional stylist. At the end of the day I chose not to complete the process of coloring my hair because pricing was dodgy/unclear, after bleaching my hair they adjusted the quote to 2-3x the original amount we agreed on, and to be honest the way they spoke to me on the phone was unacceptable. It was explained that the quote changed because of the length of my hair and time it took to apply product. That's fair. What I have an issue with is any change in price should've been explained clearly so I can provide my consent and make a fully informed decision. If the business is unsure of their pricing that's one thing, but my advice is to always overcommunicate to your clients if you're expecting them to pay a range of $800-$1000 for any service. He told me that someone with my length of hair should just expect for the job to be expensive and that everyone with long locs understands this. True as that may be, I am not a stylist and I expect the business to price me appropriately. Furthermore 'expensive' is not a specific number. All I wanted to know was how much it would be to get the job done. There were no prices available on the website for me gage how much a job like this costs. The only color service available to book was the $25 consultation. I had another phone conversation where I spoke to the owner and the hair colorist to resolve my concerns and during the phone conversation, I was told by the hair colorist that she didn't have time to sit on the phone with me to help solve my issue because she had other clients to attend to even though we all agreed on a time to speak with one another. In that moment I was also a client, with an unfinished coloring job whose concerns were discarded. Ultimately I'm disappointed I put my trust in them, that I didn't get the services I came in there for, and that it felt like they were unwilling to help me get my desired coloring job. I am not confident that they care about my feedback or have plans to adjust their practices but I hope this can reach any future clients who are looking for a salon to trust with their hair. I made the mistake (for the last time) of trying to use Loc Lov as my backup spot when my usual loctician was out of town for the holidays. I was drawn in by the idea of a "real salon experience", which can be hard to find in LA. Their website seemed professional and I was excited for that level of service. The first time I went was fine service-wise, but I did request the interlock. Zeenat advised me against it since I wasn't an athlete, but the palm roll that they did was gone in a single wash. That being said, Zeenat was great and I knew that I'd insist on interlock next time. The next time I went to Salih for starter locs. I was texted either late the day before my appointment asking to reschedule and I said that that was fine, but once I got there I still had to wait around an hour, first for the shampoo and then for Salih to finish up working with/advising another person. The locs were smaller than I'd asked for and while he did my hair Salih bragged about not doing what customers asked for if he knew better, and how he didn't even ask before making changes. The twists ended up looking fine, but that was a turn off for me. This last time I signed up with a stylist named Shara for a 7 am appointment. I called to make sure that it was available because it's before their business hours. They said they'd check and call me back or text me. Never did. I called back and checked it and they said that I was good to come in. On my way out of the house I got locked out, so I waited until 7 to call since they were opening early for my appointment and asked to speak to Shara, but she also wasn't there yet. I got my keys and started driving over and they called me back around 7:10 saying she'd made it. I let them know that I was on my way and started talking to explain the situation, but Denise had hung up before I finished my sentence. So I drove over, got a text asking my ETA and responded. When I showed up the door was locked and shutters were closed. Denise let me know that Shara had left 6 minutes before I got there even though I'd let them know that I was 5 minutes away. Shara never contacted me. She didn't tell me when she left. She didn't even tell me that that might happen because then I would have just stayed home. Denise refused to let me use the deposit I'd made on another appointment. This time was definitely my fault for being late, but Loc Lov's lack of professionalism on their part, but then complete lack of human touch/hospitality that I've seen in my case, other reviews, and stories I've heard from others that go there let me know that I'm good. tl;dr - good backup salon but not a good go-to, nice palm roll and styles, weak interlock though, not very professional or welcoming, will probably make you wait so don't plan anything that day Zeenat, Ishmael, and the girl who shampoos are fantastic though and you will get a good twist/style with Salih read more

Love love love this Salon!!!! I have had locs for 10 years and this was by far the best experience I've had getting my locs maintained! The atmosphere is the shop is very welcoming. The shop is in a great location and is easy to find. Johnathan did my shampoo and he was amazing! The shampoo was very relaxing and their shampoos smell and feel great. And their shampoo bowls are so comfy. There is a pillow in the bowl you rest your head on so no sore while you get a shampoo here : ). Salih twisted my locks and he did phenomenal job. I had not had my hair professionally retwisted in a long time and he hooked me up. He started me off with a trim and did a very fresh and clean twist of my locs. To finish things off he styled my locs into the cutest Mohawk. It's been almost a week and my style still looks fresh!!! I give credit to the salon staff as they are COVID-19 compliant. You must complete a health survey prior to your appointment and once you arrive your cellphone is sterilized using UV light. Kudos to them for taking this disease seriously. On to the negative. I am deeply disappointed at the level of service I received when having my hair interlocked. When you think of Loc Love Salon, a salon that has both LA and DC locations, you think of excellence. You (I) think ( thought) that every loctician there had proven themselves and were worthy to work at such an establishment. My assumption was way off. To my surprise the woman who had interlocked my hair had only been working as a part-time loctician for 6 months. I'll spare you the details, but after the first wash (2 weeks later) it was evident the person was a novice and used me for experience. To Salih's credit (owner?) he offered to redo my hair but at that point I was over it. My takeaway and advice....never assume, always ask, and don't be afraid to get up and walk away. read more

It's not easy finding an LA loctician that encompasses the important and valuable aspects of salon experience. So far, I'm pissed. I set up a Loc Consultation, of which I paid 25.00. The stylist was a NO SHOW. I want my money back. NOW!

I wish I could leave a great review as others have done but this was the worse salon experience I have ever had in my life. The first appointment I made was canceled & I had to reschedule it. He then tried to reschedule that appointment as well to a later time for that day & I advised him that I could not come in later because I had planned my day around the appointment since he had canceled my first appointment so he said he would make it work. I showed up for my Nov 11th appointment to what seemed like an unwelcoming stylist but I ignored the way I was feeling. Without stopping to take a proper assessment of my locs Ismael took me straight to the shampoo bowl. I removed my hat & ponytail holder, at which point Ismael proclaims that have micro locs & it's going to cost me more. I asked how much more & he states he has to check. After "checking" he says, loc maintenance for micros are $215. I didn't feel that I had micros but Im only 6months new to this journey so what do I know, plus Im already there & I needed my hair done so I agreed to the price change. Without still haven't assessed my hair, we go back to the bowl & he starts washing my hair. Im relaxed & everything is going fine, so I think. After a couple washes Ismael goes what's going on with the front of your hair? I replied what is it matted? He says yes, im going to have to leave you sitting with conditioner. He steps away & within less than 5mins comes back with another hairstylist. He's touching my hair & then the female stylist touches my hair & goes "This is a mess, there is nothing anyone can do for you. We can't help you" but the way it was said was extra dramatic, with such disgust and rudness. She then repeats again that there is nothing we can do & walks off. Ismael stated that the woman is his supervisor & once again states, there is nothing they can do for my hair, it's too matted? He says he can dry my hair or I can leave with the towel. I chose to leave with the towel, which he secures around my wet hair. I get up & he goes about whatever he is doing & says nothing else to me. At this point, Im embarrassed, not so much by the state of my hair but by the way I was spoken to & treated. The way they had spoken to me was so horrible that another stylist who overheard the whole incident came over to console me and said if my hair is unrepairable, she can give me a nice cut & style because I have enough of my new growth. The woman can clearly see how defeated & embarrassed I am, she hugs me & offers me a seat to take some time to pull myself together before I leave (I was crying). I explain to her I will be fine, I thank her & leave without another word or offer of advice from Ismael or his "supervisor". Lucky for me my boyfriend use to have locs for many years. When I got in my car, I called & told him what happened. He was very upset & told me to come home, he will take a look & fix it. My boyfriend stated that my locs 1) are not micros & 2) were not unfixable. My boyfriend was able to separate the top portion that was matted and he retwisted my entire hair with no other issues. I also had to request my deposit back more than once & after I stated that I would be leaving a review of the shop Ismael begged me not to leave a review and it was at this point that I found out from him, that he was new to the shop and that in fact, the woman who made the comments about the state of my hair was not his supervisor. I also confronted him on the fact that my locs where not micros and all he did was apologize and beg me again not to leave a review, at which point I just ignored his text messages that followed. Im not saying not to go to this salon, I just want to share my horrible experience. As a woman who had just had a baby & was partially suffering from postpartum, this type of treatment could have easily sent me over the edge and had I not have someone who was knowledgeable in locs, Ismael & this other stylist false assessment, could have caused me to think my hair was ruined & I would have cut it all off. read more
