He's incredibly zen and gave some really honest, insightful advice on what my hair actually needed. What impressed me most was that he did the entire cut with scissors--most places I go just rely on clippers, so seeing that level of talent and craftsmanship was awesome. I was searching for a new hair salon and found Mimi Hair with good reviews nearby. I went on their website and requested a haircut appointment for 4/2/26. I was matched with Sheila. I work full-time and had scheduled the appointment at 11:30 AM specifically due to my work schedule. I arrived about five minutes early for my appointment and another stylist checked me in saying my stylist would be with me soon. Other than this one stylist and her client, the salon was empty. At 11:29, I got a text from Sheila saying she was running 10 minutes late. Unfortunately for me, Sheila arrived 17 minutes late for my scheduled appointment. Tardiness aside, the overall haircut experience was average. Neither Sheila nor I spoke much during the appointment. I had a 12:45 lunch meeting with my boss, was stressed about being late, and I felt trapped. There weren't any extra frills like a nice scalp massage during the wash - I'm sure Sheila was trying to get me done as quickly as possible. I did choose to give two stars instead of one because I felt the haircut itself was adequate. No fault of the stylist's, but I found Mimi Hair's wash sinks to be extremely uncomfortable on my neck! I remember old salons when I was a kid that had old sinks and chairs that put a lot of pressure on your neck. The other three LA salons I've been to have modern sinks and chairs, but Mimi Hair must have something older...my neck was killing me! Obviously, I was hugely inconvenienced and my experience was soured. Sheila did not offer an explanation for why she was so late or acknowledge the bad impression. I had to explain to my boss that my hairstylist was almost 20 min late! Sheila charged me $90 for the haircut, and I did still leave a small tip. I guess I'll keep looking for a new salon... Mimi's Hair in Culver City is truly a hidden gem. It's a small hole-in-the-wall salon, but Mimi is AMAZING at what she does. I booked a balayage + haircut, and during the consultation Mimi really listened to what I wanted and gave honest feedback on what would work best for my hair. I was hoping to go lighter, but she explained the best processing plan for my hair health and how to keep it low-maintenance while still looking beautiful -- and I'm so glad I trusted her. She gave me the prettiest low-maintenance balayage, added money pieces, and cut my hair into full layers. My hair has honestly never felt softer. She also recommended products I still use to this day (like It's a 10 with keratin), and I love that she didn't just focus on the salon results -- she gave real tips on maintenance too. Bonus: Mimi has the cutest corgis They may be in the salon sometimes, so if you're not dog-friendly it's worth noting -- but for me they made the whole experience even more relaxing and fun. Two appointments, two poor results, and never once did owner attempt to make it right. She is rude, unprofessional and incredibly disrespectful. The poor reviews you see here are 100% accurate. The first time I went in for partial highlights and leaving the appointment not only was the color wrong there were still visible roots. The owner said it was because I did not do a full head which is completely false, the area with the root showing is still part of a partial. The second time, I gave it another shot and paid $350 for full head highlights and left with color that was clearly uneven and nothing like the photos I brought in. The color is way off and didn't match what was promised, which were caramel tone highlights, not brassy white blonde color. For the second time. I've reached out multiple times asking to meet and have the color corrected. No response, no attempt to make it right. She simply doesn't care, and she stole my money. The color work also doesn't match what's shown on the salon's social media -- what you see online is not what you'll get in the chair. On top of that, the assistant who blow-dried my hair afterward didn't know how to do it properly; I had the same issue last time with another assistant and I left with frizzy, unfinished hair and had to redo it myself at home. My hair is not hard to blow dry. If you're considering this salon based on their Instagram, don't be fooled. Read the other negative reviews here too -- in my experience, they're accurate. You'll get attitude, poor service, and then be blamed or ignored. Salons in the LA are a dime a dozen and Mimi Hair is a disgrace. read more

This is the first time I ever got my roots touched up and my scalp did not burn or itch once. Every stylist just does my roots and touches my scalp with 25 developer and my root closer to my scalp will be brighter than the other roots. I thought it was normal for my scalp to itch and something I had to tolerate. Shu on the other hand was professional, knowledgeable, and gentle with my hair and scalp. He always checked in and made great suggestions. He bleached my hair in a process that protected my scalp which takes more time. He also knows how to work with Asian hair because he was a stylist in Tokyo! I've been bleaching my hair my whole life and I've been hopping around different stylists. Shus going to be my hair stylist from now on and I think everyone needs someone as great as he is! The way he cut my hair was so thorough and attentive. My hair is literally so soft and healthy now. Will not be returning. Feels like I was scammed of my money and time. Upon booking my appointment online in advance, I sent pictures of the haircut, haircolor I wanted, + my current hair asking if bleachless color is possible since I had untouched natural hair that is a very dark black. They replied that they can do it! Again at the beginning of my appointment I showed the stylist the color I wanted and she said she will be able to achieve it with no issues. After my haircut + 2.5 hours of leaving the formula in all over my hair, the stylist asked me if I had done anything to my hair - to which I reiterated that my hair is all natural. She said she asked because it looked like my hair was not getting lighter...AFTER TWO HOURS OF IT IN!! Following wash and dry, my hair had barely become the very slightest shade lighter than its natural color. It basically looked like nothing was done to the color. This result was not even close to what I expected nor was I told that this could happen. Stylist said this is all she could do since my hair is too dark - as if it was now my fault??? I can understand every hair is different to work with and can be unpredictable but this RESULT IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to what we had agreed to initially. To be honest, even the haircut was not layered how I asked for. I was led to believe my expectations would be achieved however I was sorely disappointed. After all this, I still had to pay the full price of $200 for my all over color (plus an additional $115 for the haircut)- which to note, was SIGNIFICANTLY MORE than the base prices I booked with too. Had hoped Sheila may offer me another service to help or correct my hair to reach my expected result or be kind enough to lower the cost since her services did NOT MEET QUALITY that I was promised and expecting. Please save your time and money and do not go to this salon. I had really high hopes for this place and was sadly disappointed. I asked for a bright balayage which Mimi said was not possible to do since I had colored my hair months ago. I was completely fine with this and we had agreed on a picture she showed me on her phone which appeared to be a darker balayage. When I got home to observe my hair more, i was very disappointed. My hair had streaks and different colors all through my head. I was embarrassed to walk out with my hair this way so I went to a different salon to fix it. Not one but two hair stylists were shocked that I had paid $400 for what appeared to be just baby highlights. They were upset for me!!! I contacted the salon in hopes to atleast get a partial refund that would be the decent thing to do, they refused. The stylist told me I had to style my hair to see the highlights, which I know is crazy!!! I'm now having to go to small claims to get my money back for a job that was badly done and a business that doesn't care to make their customers satisfied. This place used to be so good back in 2015... I recently booked an appointment at this salon, since I went there a couple of times to get a balayage done. The last time they botched it a bit but were quick to correct it. This time I was booking an appointment the day that I landed in town because it was the only time between work, school, and traveling for a funeral that I would have to get it done. I called the day prior in order to cancel the appointment, as I found out at the last minute about a wake. The salon had the nerve to charge me for not showing. They apparently never check their messages any more. To make things worse, I got a text from them "shaming" me for not showing up as I was crying at my uncle's funeral. Literally. They heartlessly charged me, despite me messaging them and telling them that I had called to cancel in time, and explaining my funeral weekend and crazy travel schedule. They do NOT care, and obviously have NO problem making money off of people who are in mourning-- absolutely no shame about any of it! Steer clear of this place. When I arrived, we discussed some hair style inspirations and my desire to keep the length. She did an amazing job and I walked out of the salon feeling like a million bucks. One of the worst hair experiences I've had. I was hopeful for Mimi, as I expect you are, but don't be fooled by her pictures. The pictures I have included is my inspo pic and then what I left the salon looking like. My hair looks almost the exact same as when I walked in with the exception of two random bright streaks in the back of my head. To Mimi's credit, she told me -in her very brief and dismissive consultation- that I wouldn't be able to achieve that blonde in one session. However, what she didn't say, is I wouldn't achieve any blonde or any signs of a balayage whatsoever. For $450 this salon is a complete rip off. I even contacted my hairdresser back home and she was shocked. She commented that it looked rushed and that there should be more dimension and lighting on the ends- how a balayage should be. Not to mention, Mimi's customer service is awful. I went back hoping she could fix it. However, I was met with nothing. No refund, no offer to fix, no compromise. Photos don't do justice to how gorgeous my copper balayage is (Shu asked me what exactly the color I wanted was, but let's be real, I'm too clueless to describe it accurately, so we'll just call it copper). The highlights flow so vividly and smoothly on my once-messy hair! I instantly get why he insisted on blow-drying and styling it after the coloring was done, when I see the new person in the mirror. Mimi also has two ADORABLE corgis who greet you as well, which is such a nice and pleasant surprise. (who doesn't love dogs!) In regards to the service- she listened to what I wanted, asked if I had any reference photos, and was very patient with me when I told her I wanted shorter layers after having cut them the first time.
