Great smoked turkey! I like pretty much everything I've ever gotten here. The baked beans are also the best ones I've had besides my mama's. Very flavorful and goes well with the red sauce. My favorite BBQ sauce around. Great loaded baked potatoes, potato salad and the pimento cheese is the best! BBQ chicken flatbread pizza is also very good! Pies, cakes and cookies are good way to top off the meal but I usually have to wait a little while to enjoy due to being overstuffed! Also, great catering. I cannot believe I haven't reviewed this place then I remembered I had reviewed the one at the marina that is now close. This Local Joe's is your one-stop general store as it serve up BBQ, boiled peanuts, desserts, and other snacks and special sauces you can take home. But I'm here to review the BBQ and sides. I haven't had the chicken but I have had the pork, Turkey, and ribs. Out of the 3, the turkey is the best out of the 3. That might sound crazy but they have the best turkey I've ever had. The pork is really good too but on the dry side at times. The ribs have a good rub to them but every time I have had them, they have been on the well-done side...not fall off the bone or tender but good enough to eat. The potato salad is the baked potato salad made with sour cream. I could eat that all day. Beans are leg-end-ary as they are homemade, have black pepper, and chunks of meat in it. The slaw is vinegar based. Sweet tea is always brewed fresh! Local Joe's will also give you good value for your meal. Plates run under $10 and is a good bit for the amount you pay. Dang it, we have been eating at Local Joes since they opened, for years they have been a staple. Just ate there hoping for a better meal for the price that is charged. It's ran by teenagers with Nirvana blasting ... indifference every where. Visited with my brother and sister-in-law in Gadsden last week and we spent a mid-day driving in the area, enjoying fall colors - we stopped at Local Joe's for lunch. I had the 'fully-loaded-nachos' w/BBQ sauce and other toppings - it was AMAZING. The service was prompt, loved the 'setting', the store, the dining area, everything about it. You will get charged a Credit Card Convenience Fee here. We have liked Local Joe's in the past, but I doubt we go back. After going home, I looked at my receipt and saw where we were charged a credit card convenience fee. We were not told about the fee. I get that the cost of taking credit cards is a problem for businesses, but factor the cost into the price, not a fee. It is better to raise the price of the product and then offer a discount for cash. Next time I get barbecue, I will got to a place that wont slap a fee on without telling me. read more

Always fantastic! We love their pork sandwiches, BBQ potato, and smoked turkey. Lots of selection and they now have cupcakes, cookies, and cake balls alongside homemade turnovers. They also carry Frios pops and other local brands. When we come to visit family in Rainbow City we always make sure that we stop in at Local Joe's. The food is amazing! I love the fact that they also sell products and produce from local farmers. The smoked turkey is full of smoky flavor and is delicious. We love the cole slaw too. It's a vinegar base and seasoned just right. All of their meats and sides are tasty. You can order sandwiches or plates or just pickup a side of ribs with their amazing BBQ sauce. Service is friendly and efficient. My fiancé Marion and I had to evacuate Florida due to Hurricane Irma. We stayed in beautiful quiet Gadsden for 4 days and stopped in and met Karen who was so sweet and hospitable! She immediately offered to bless us with some of her BBQ. We tried the sausage, ribs, turkey, mac and cheese, beans potato salad, and cookie sandwiches. Everything was excellent! I've had BBQ in Memphis and Austin and various other places this was right up there in those ranks. Good smokey flavor and the sauce was great too. Stopped on a Sunday in July after 6:00 for dinner and it was the only BBQ in any direction open for 30 miles. WOW were we glad because the chopped pork was great, the BBQ beans mustardy great, the sour slaw coarsely chopped and worthy of a TV show segment. The chips were SEC southern from Golden Flake and the view of the lake from the dockside dining restful. The cruisers up and down the water were entertaining and friendly. Smoked turkey is a very nice surprise. Excellent. The potato salad is also top notch. Cole slaw is quite good, a little different than most I have had. I'll be going back to try the pork, then I'll have a better basis for comparison since this is the only time I've had smoked turkey. If the other meats live up to the turkey it deserves 5 stars. Update: I returned and tried the pork. My standard for comparison in Alabama is Tin Top, down by Calera. This is not up to their standard. The meat is fine, but the sauce is lacking. This time I tried some of the pastry as well, which was very good. Overall I'll stick with the 4 star rating. read more

The BEST smoked turkey I've ever had. This small family owned business apparently opened about 2 years ago and has spread through word of mouth. It's not quite a farmer's market, not quite a grocery store, and not quite a restaurant. The store sells all sorts of local wares, including produce, cheese, and homemade goods. Upon stopping due to curiosity generated from the little coupon book found at various Gadsden eateries and establishments, I found Local Joe's to be a bit out of the way out of town and a place that judging from the exterior wouldn't normally stop. It was very, very well worth the drive though. Upon perusing the homemade fry pie and pork skins, I wandered into the back and met Local Joe himself, who smokes his own meats. We wanted some smoked turkey for dinner and Joe insisted we have a sample, even after telling him it wasn't necessary. The turkey melted in my mouth and was full of flavor and we wound up taking home two pounds. The whole staff was extremely friendly and I can't wait to go back and try some more items at Joe's! read more

I have been eating at local Joe's since the beginning of them serving BBQ back in 2011.In the past two years I've noticed the taste of the food is not that great at times the meat is dry and the side's are not season like before.I would give them a try every so often and it was always different.I really missed how good everything use to be.Until a few days ago my friend convince me to try little bridge marine local Joe's other location OMG so glad we went 30 minutes out of the way The Best BBQ the side items have season everything is perfectly season well worth driving pass the other location sit outside on the water and enjoy the best bbq wonderful job I'm a big fan and happy customer again read more
