I have left this review in other spots in addition to this one. This restaurant earned the effort. There were three of us. We had 45 minutes to eat and then 15 to get to the courthouse for a meeting. I had seen the place a few weeks before and wanted to try it. When we arrived the parking lot was about full. Good sign for food quality usually. Bad sign for someone who only has 45 minutes to eat. We asked the wait-staff if they thought they could pull-off a 30 minute race to get our food to the table. She worked with us by advising what meals/items took longer to prepare and we said game on. Best burgers I have had in Alabama in a decade. T H E B E S T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All three of us were in awe of how good the meal was. The wait-staff was fast, courteous, knowledgable, helpful, and pleasant. I am usually happy if I get just two of those in a server. Our server had them all. Opened in the tumultuous 2020. If our visit is any indication this place is going to be very very successful for years to come. Staci took really good care of us! I ordered the meatloaf sandwich with onion rings. The wife ordered their spinach salad. We were both delighted with how scrumptious these choices were. For dessert we shared the peach pie which was served hot with a side of vanilla ice cream, coffee and hot tea. Five star rating is easy. read more

Truth be told, this is probably a 3.5 star, but I'm going to round up to four stars taking into consideration that they haven't been here very long and they are doing a good job of getting a restaurant up and running during Covid times. Lots of seating and even though there was only one parking space in front, there were still a few seats left to be had. Our server was really good and took good care of us and gave us some good info on menu items. I had the Smoked Cuban Burger which came with Smoked Ham, Smoked BBQ Pork, Cheese, Klausen Pickles, and Mustard. Mine was really good, flavor of everything was spot on and everything was fresh and warm. I'd give this a really solid 4 out 5 My wife had the Pimento-Cheese Burger that came with Mayo, Tomato, Lettuce, Pepper Jelly, and Home Made Pimento Cheese. Hers wasn't as good. The food was all fresh, but the bun itself was a soggy mess and fell apart. All the internal ingredients had to be eaten with a fork. We also had the Big Chief Sampler - Pick three items from their starters menu. We went with the Egg Rolls (4 out of 5), Buffalo Chicken Dip ((3 out of 5) and Fried Green Tomatoes (4 out of 5). Came in yesterday with a party of three. I ordered the Downtown burger with the side salad. The burger was pretty good, the patty was thick, and the salad tasted fresh. I do think the management should hire more help, since it started getting busy around 3 and there were only two waitresses holding up the fort. Luckily we didn't have a super long wait. Hopefully this business continues to do well; I'm sure opening in 2020 wasn't easy! read more

We tried The Downtown Chief today. We started with the appetizer combo and chose Southwest Eggrolls, Fried Mushrooms, and Buffalo Chicken Dip. I had the Mac-Bowl with smoked gouda, bacon, and grilled onions. Benilda had the Mac-Bowl with smoked gouda, pulled pork, and grilled onions. Our other diner had the Downtown Burger with onion rings. The mac-bowls were very good and we both enjoyed them a lot. The portions were generous and Benilda took a hefty box home. The burger was the usual deliciousness always found at the Glencoe location. There were a few minor issues that were to be expected with a new restaurant. We brought them to the attention of our server and one of the owners and they were appreciative of the feedback. Our server was great and all the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Overall, it was a good experience and we'll be back. read more

If you are not Caucasian, do not go to this restaurant. My family went here with a large group of friends to hear one of the kids perform. My husband was the only person in the group not Caucasian. When the waitress accidently overcharged him, instead of simply apologizing for the mistake, she tossed his change on the table in front of him and was very rude. He asked to see the manager, who without asking him a single question told him he "had issues" and was to "leave and not come back". She also told him that they "don't want his kind" there. My husband was shocked and humiliated. This is not the town we know and love. I'm not sure what century these people think we're living in, but this is not ok. read more

I was disappointed in my meal today, I had the Cuban burger, it wasn't hot, barely warm, the bbq meat tasted left over and the hamburger meat was poor quality full of gristle. We visited a couple of nights ago for the first time. The ambiance is definitely "burger place" and I loved it! There was live music & I loved the vibe. Our server had great menu suggestions! We did the sampler appetizer and got the southwest eggrolls (YUMMMMM), fried pickle Spears (they were kosher pickles and I'm not a fan but they were good), and fried green tomatoes with homemade pimento cheese and pepper jelly on top. SO GOOD! I ordered the pimento cheeseburger. I didn't feel like it had enough pimento cheese on it but it was really good. The sweet potato fries were amazing!! Our friends asked us the next day if we wanted to go meet them there for lunch. Even though we had already gone the day before, we went because there's enough variety on the menu to have tried something new. My burger was the neo I think, the one with an egg, it was pretty good, but nothing special. Negatives: service was slow even though it was not crowded, it was a cold day but felt like they barley had any heat on, fries were warm. My wife had the pimento cheese burger, it was very soggy on bottom, had to be eaten with a fork, and barley had any pimento cheese on it. Really disappointed. Drove an hour because of reviews we had read. Our family loves trying new things. Maybe because it's Valentines weekend, maybe because all of the waitresses were huddled up discussing what their beaus were gonna get them for the holiday, but the service was slow and terrible. We waited for nearly 20 minutes after being seated with not so much as a smile thrown our way. We had to flag down a passing waitress to ask who our waitress was. By the time the waitress returned with the correct item, the dish was cold and it was clearly noticeable that the "grilled chicken" was pulled from a bag of pre-cooked salad toppings. The Buffalo chicken dip was a plus. The wings were about like Domino's wings. Maybe we caught you guys on bad day, but it was enough for us to not return. The food we were served was good. Unfortunately it wasn't what we ordered. It took 30 minutes longer to get it right. I don't think we were the only ones who shared this issue as waitresses constantly roamed the place with food trying to find the right customers. Reasonable prices. Most but not all tables are socially distanced. Staff wore masks but most clients waiting to order/eat were not nor asked to do so. Waiting area was very crowded. They had a singer. Could've used more buffalo sauce. And the chicken was minced. The belly buster burger was OK. The bread fell apart. The fries were good however. The kids mac & cheese was OK. The mac & cheese was a little above bland. The mac & cheese burger came out and the mac & cheese itself was cold. And I mean refrigerator cold. I asked the waitress if it was supposed to be cold and she said no and promptly took it back to fix it. 10 minutes later after waiting 45 minutes for our food another waitress brought a new burger out. The mac & cheese was lukewarm at best. I asked about 20 minutes into waiting if I could place a to go order and she told me it would be a 45 minute wait because the kitchen was backed up. There were only about 30 people in the restaurant at the time. Several parties who came in after us received their food before we did. On the bright side the waitress was very kind and took the mac & cheese burger off of the bill. Overall if I want big chief, I will go to the original one over in Glencoe. We ate here during the holiday break and the service was great and we all enjoyed our meal. Daughter liked the Mac and cheese.

My first visit here and was quite underwhelmed. Our waitress was not very attentive but was polite. Ordered fried pickle spears as a starter and two Belly Burgers. No one stopped at the table again for at least 15-20 and the restaurant wasn't that busy although it was a Saturday night. Finally she brought our food along with the starter pickles all at once. Only then did she ask if we needed refills of our drinks when of course our glasses were empty. The pickles were not spears, as stated on the menu, they were slices which wasn't that big of a deal except they were extremely greasy and heavily salted and barely warm. The burgers were OK although they were barely warm too. My thought was the food had been ready and sitting in the kitchen waiting to be picked up since it doesn't take 20 mins to cook what we ordered. After the meal was over we sat and waited awhile to finally receive our check. She never came by to check on us since she delivered the food. Overall I was not impressed and don't believe I will visit this restaurant again. The building is pretty and the decor was cool but the TV speakers were up so loud it was deafening so there wasn't much talking during our meal. Very disappointing. read more
