It immediately reminded me a bit of the Embarcadero in San Francisco, with the riverboats, waterfront views, and lively energy--but with a distinctly Southern charm all its own. Because of the historic cobblestones, you can't drive fast here, which is actually part of the magic. It naturally slows you down and encourages you to take your time, look around, and soak in the scenery. There's so much to see--bars, restaurants, shops, hotels, and those iconic riverboats passing by--that every few steps feels like another photo opportunity. The atmosphere is vibrant but relaxed, and it's the kind of place where you can easily spend hours wandering, people-watching, and exploring. Unfortunately, I didn't have nearly enough time to do it justice on this visit, but what I experienced definitely whet my appetite and sparked my curiosity to come back. Being operated under the guidance of nonprofit Eastern National, the store is one of the better ones I've come across when visiting National Monuments. It not only has all kinds of tee shirts for souvenirs but also really magnificent replica glassware and other such items. It also has archive photos, books and other items that address the lives, both Confederate and Union, of those who fought at the fort, chronicles relating to the construction of the fort, Nation Park Passport Guide books, history excerpts on General Robert E. Lee and a good number of items and materials related to Coastal Georgia. Compared to the gift and souvenir shops located at other such National Monuments or parks, I'm really a super fan of this one.

As I began walking upstairs it was hard not to miss seeing the walls lined with pirate and (State of) Georgia-themed novelty shirts! Treasure awaits up the spiral staircase! I've never seen such a huge gift shop all dedicated to pirate stuff (and other nice gift items too). They have everything from pirate gears to cookbooks! I even drew some nice compliments for my photos from Nate M (CM, Nashville TN) LoL! Nate must like pirates. Yup, they had art work, mugs/cups, shot glasses, postcards, unique tees/fleece/hoodies, treasure chests, hats, posters... and, of course, pirate costume stuff! I bought a bandana head scarf... pink, of course! I enjoyed looking around the shop. I bet you'll find a thing or two interesting up the spiral staircase. There's something for everyone! Review #1838
