This brewing company is a great place to enjoying refreshing, delicious beers in a nice setting. I love visiting the Erie Canal area in Penfield, NY, and on my recent visit, I checked out this cool establishment for the first time. Lock 32 serves a nice variety of craft beer from local breweries which can be enjoyed while sitting in or near the bar area or outside on the patio, if you order from their outside pouring station. They do not allow beer ordered inside to be taken outside as they serve in beer glass while outside they use plastic cups. I received good service on my visit. Their beer listing on the menu had the variety that I was looking for to get a flight. I enjoy beer flights (wherever available as long as the place has a good variety of beers). If you look at one of my photos of 'The Brews' (menu) for reference, I ordered their #5 (Yankee Leaper), #6 (Berm Side), #7 (Leap 'n Lime), and #9 (No Wake). They were all good in taste and to my liking. My most favorites were the Yankee Leaper and No Wake. The beer flight was reasonably priced. The atmosphere was nice. People were chill and friendly. They had some snacks available for purchase but I think you could bring some food from outside to enjoy with your beer (I saw someone with a box of pizza). I would highly recommend checking out Lock 32 if you happen to be in Erie Canal/ Penfield area. It's enjoyable and relaxing to be there while soaking in nice views (especially during warm weather months). read more

Simply the best locations possible beside the Erie Canal. Wonderful outdoor seating and inside isn't bad. Just beer, but you can order from neighbors. Beer was good, especially on a sunny day. Dogs are welcome. Parking is really horrible in this area, recommend walking if you can. read more

Stopped into Lock 32 right as they were opening this past Friday and am SO impressed by their set up, menu of offerings, and innovation during this time. We didn't end up sitting and staying since my fam was super hungry and needed eats, but we DID leave with crowlers to take with us. I went with the Orange Hefeweizen and a PB porter! My partner downed the first with enthusiasm, I tried ~half a pint and was wowed. This is my fave kind of spring/summer beer. Light, fruity, and easy to drink. Their setup is the absolute best, and I hear they have big plans for going further with their outdoor dining, coming this spring! They currently have outdoor fire pits in the parking lots with seating all around, that parties were utilizing on a beautiful-ish Feb day. There's no real food offerings, but Simply Crepes, Label 7, and a few other Schoen Place eateries will all deliver directly into the store. I believe Casey said eats from restaurants can also be brought in. I cannot wait to return over the summer and enjoy brews in their expanded outdoor space! read more

Nice little brewery located on the Erie Canal. Plenty of outdoor seating along the canal walkway with a nice view of the canal. There is plenty of sitting area inside as well and there is even seating along the windows which are like garage doors that open up which is nice. There is a moderate side bar inside and there is a small stand outside where people can get beer and wine. They have just chips and stuff for snacks but you can bring your own food. They are dog friendly! As far as the beer, we didn't care much for it but everyone's pallet is different when it comes to beer. read more

Looking for a good local brewery around Rochester, Lock 32 popped up towards the top on Yelp. All-in-all, I had a great experience! My friend and I arrived a little after 2pm and managed to find a public parking spot in the way back. The brewery itself is located right on the Erie Canal and is nestled into this neat area of shops and restaurants. We actually walked around for a bit just to see what there was around and to walk off a bit of our garbage plates from lunch. haha The only inconvenience was that we had to grab a mask to go inside, no matter if we were vaccinated, but once we were seated, we were able to take them off. The inside of the brewery itself is small with a big bar area in the center and tables/chairs nearby. There were people sitting outside with beer near a gazebo, so there was seating outside too, but we wanted to be warm so we opted to sit inside. There was only one bartender working, but my friend and I were the only people inside so no issues with service. She was very nice, attentive, and great conversation! The beer list is on the smaller side but they had something for everyone. For my beer, I went with the Yankee Leaper (Blonde Ale). I was impressed with how much flavor there was with how light the alcohol content was, very enjoyable! Overall, I really liked Lock 32. It had a cool, low-key vibe with friendly staff and tasty beer. I can see myself coming back here again with a few friends and just spending an hour or two here sipping beers and watching life along the Erie Canal. read more

Lock32 has the perfect location right on the canal! Since COVID began, they've taken over the parking lot next door to create an outdoor seating area with tables so that people can properly be seated for their drinks. In following the new Cuomo rules, they offer a $1.50 pretzel hotdog (which was actually delicious), or you can order food from one of the surrounding restaurants. Due to COVID, they weren't offering flights, but they were able to do half pours so that you could try more variety without getting full beers. The beer was good - there was about 8 on tap. Nothing too standout. I would recommend this place for a weekday afternoon, as the seating inside and outside is limited and I'm sure they fill up quickly on the weekends. read more

Great spot to come in for a beer! I would come here again but in the warmer months to sit out by the water. There's a good amount of seating inside, pet friendly! Flights are 4 pours and they are decent sized. They offer food that you can order from Label 7 which is a restaurant just across from them. Parking is dicey at Schoen Place because there are so many different businesses, so I would say be mindful of what time of day you come. Lots and lots of people walking around and cars looking for spots. Beers were really good, and the bartender said if there was an extra one we wanted to try to just ask (love when they do that). There's also TVs in the bar area. Clean bathrooms, and there was an upstairs I'm guessing for events. The noise level here is honestly my biggest complaint. They have sound panels to minimize the impact, but it's still so loud that you can definitely be misunderstood at the bar (something that happened to my friend today). The beers are good, they're both dog and family friendly, and there's free popcorn, but it's not a place I seek out due to their constant level of busy (if it's nice out, it's a struggle to get a table). They have a 1911 cider on tap and wines available for the not-beer crowd, but on a Sunday afternoon they were out of cider. My friend and I (remarkably) agreed on the grapefruit pale ale (super easy to drink and well-balanced), but also $7 each. Great for a snack (also free pizza on Thursdays!) and a drink if you're in the neighborhood (especially if already on the canal path), but I wouldn't go out of your way. read more

A lovely cute cozy place right on the canal on Schoen Place in Pittsford. We were just walking by the canal and were drawn towards this place because the band was playing a delightful country music. Once you step inside, you will see that it is a lot smaller than what it looks from the outside. It is actually a very happy place with huge windows facing the canal. The not-so-sober Patrons were sitting right by the window and clapping haphazardly for oncoming pedestrians! I guess you have to have one too many drinks to do that, but the ambiance was really fun, the drinks were good! I didn't see any free popcorn on the premises, but still had a great time. read more

We popped in on a snowy March evening after dining nearby. The place was hopping with a live band and there was not a place to sit. Tried the Niagara lager which was from a guest brewery and it was good. Cannot wait until warmer weather when they will have their wheat beer and the canal is open. Excellent location on the canal in schoen place near bike/walking paths, restaurants and a few shops. Decor is very nice with wood styling and an open air side facing the canal path. Bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable. No food other than free popcorn but you can order from nearby restaurants using a limited menu. Great selection of their own and a few other local beers. I would recommend the 2x IPA, you'll never know it's 8% abv because it's so smooth and delicious. Keuka brewing's stout was also great. There is craft root beer if you're not a drinker and you've been dragged along ;) I hear they're not open particularly late but great for a day beer while relaxing in the heat by the water read more

Go here. It's pretty awesome. The location is sweet - right on the canal. Unfortunately due to rules and regulations, they aren't allowed to put tables outside for al fresco seating, but when the doors are open and the sunlight and warm air are streaming in, it's REALLY lovely. Three friends joined their talents to create Lock 32. The Flower City IPA was the best thing I tried there, for sure. At 6.5%, it had a wonderful hoppy bite but was also well-balanced and wasn't overwhleming. They do tasting flights at reasonable prices and the bar is a gorgeous hand-crafted block of natural wood. They serve wines by the glass and also have OTHER local craft beers on draft from Naked Dove and Climbing Bines. This really impressed me because it speaks to the emphasis on community and collegiality of Lock 32. There's free popcorn, a cute Americana-vintage feel inside, and a moderate number of high tables and chairs to share some drinks with friends. There's also two flat screen TVs by the bar. Will be perfect for a few of the daytime World Cup games once the tournament starts. I can't think of anything nicer than watching football next to the pastoral Erie Canal and feeling of fresh, fresh air. You can bring your own food from outside and Coal Tower delivers. this place located on the canal is so nice to be at especially in the summer or spring time. enjoying the water/boats, people watching, beer and good atmosphere. the place is small/good size but enough seating at the bar and tables. there is also an upstairs but i havent gone, just stayed at the bar. the windows/doors slide open so you can enjoy the outdoors. they have tvs to enjoy sports if need be. and of course the beer is nice. i got a flight and shared it for a decent price. they have a ton to taste from but to also grab a few full glasses. i would go here again at any time i want good tasting beer. read more

The canal view is wonderful. If the weather is nice and the windows are open it's a peaceful view. It's a welcome stop on Schoen place. Apparently some of the local restaurants will deliver here. Lock 32 has the perfect spot right on the canal path, as a bicycling fan I love to roll down the path from the city and have a beer when I reach Pittsford. We stopped in on a Sunday to grab a beer before the movies and check out the newly expanded bar space. Lock 32 took over the adjacent game store by knocking through the walls and doubling the bar space. The new bar wraps around the whole room with a few tables on either side, entry doors on three sides and the large sliding glass doors along the canal that have been here all along- this is the spot on a sunny summer day! The beer at Lock 32 is solid across the board. They have a well balanced mix of your standard styles, we had a sampler and a pint with all five of the IPA's. I've had some of the other flavors before. My top choice for this visit was the Vermont Style IPA which not only had a big hop flavor, but it also gives a shout out to beer's current hottest State. There is no food at Lock 32 but you can order from one of the four nearby restaurants and eat in the bar, or enjoy some free popcorn. I was very impressed by the updates to the space and the doubled number of taps. Lock 32 is definitely ready to handle a crowd! read more

He had great suggestions. They had a good handful of options for us to try. I wound up just getting a 1911 but my family all picked different options that were well executed. It was hard for me to decide between 4 and 5 stars - alas, I arrived at 4 as I don't think it hits the high standards of a five star rating. That said, this place offers a great place to grab some quality beer with a nice variety to choose from. The bartender/owner is extremely nice - he is always welcoming and provides you with a good review of the beer selection. This place excels at simplicity - which I think is great and it fits in well with the other establishments in the village. The free popcorn is a nice addition and if you are hungry, they have some menus from local places. (I.e. coal tower). This is a quality location in the summertime as they have an exposed area facing the canal - very nice view of the water and people watching. What a gem of a place. Right on the canal where you can watch the bikers, the strollers, the dog walkers and the pigeon feeders. Parking could be a problem as it is squeezed in with a number of other retail stores and the traffic is always circling. I had the Flower City IPA which was wonderful. They have a bar a number of tables and some benches at the window. I think the window benches could us a rail or somewhere to set your beer as you look out over the canal.
