My first grader attended the 2024 summer program at Young Scholars Academy ("YSA") and now attends…read morethe writing class during the 2025 school year. She has always been a pretty good student, but YSA has made her much better. It's as if she is a different student now than she was before that summer, especially with confidence in writing. She has learned so many things so organically that it was fun for her. She also has amassed a notebook of "beautiful sentences" (her words) that she constructs each week for YSA and from which she later picks and chooses phrases for poetry/creative writing. This has directly led her to win awards at national literature competitions, which I don't think she would have done had she not been in YSA. What more, she has made friends at YSA through the entertaining field trips and Fun Fridays. She was the new girl, but the kids attending YSA were all very kind, friendly, and generous. My daughter didn't want the summer to end! And I can't say enough good things about her teachers and Ms. Esther, the director. The teachers at YSA are creative and detail-oriented, and they give the kids so much individualized attention because the class size is so small (6 to 8 students per teacher). Then there's Ms. Esther, who you can tell from the start really loves kids and cares about how they are doing. She knows each student by name and who their parents are, she regularly sends detailed texts and photos showing how the kids are doing, and her interaction with each child is colored by warmth. For example, she thinks so much about each child's well-being that she will gently move children into the shade at lunch lest they get too much sun (such a mom thing to do but so bracing to see when someone does it for your child). She also makes sure that they wash their hands at the right times, that they have all their belongings with them, and that they eat what their moms want them to eat before rushing off to play. Wow! The children are taken care of so well--physically, emotionally, and academically. Overall, YSA is superb, and I will sing its praises to no end.

We liked that he was able to work in the middle school-age content/cohort and push his growth beyond what he was getting in his regular 6th grade school class. We are very happy with the results, and my son didn't want to stop attending (rare for an academy!) when we recently let YSA go to focus on other activities. Miss Esther is always positive, flexible, and easy to communicate with. Her teachers did a good job of connecting with our son and motivating him to keep learning and developing. Things went well enough that we made a request for a series of special, private sessions to prepare my son for the written portion of the Whitney HS admissions exam. Miss Esther and her team worked out a schedule over the course of a month, and our son felt very confident and prepared for the exam. He felt good both before and after the test and ended up earning admission to Whitney! We are appreciative of the care and investment that the YSA team made in our son. We can't think of a higher recommendation than to say we are already planning to enroll our daughter at YSA in about a year when she prepares for middle school.

God bless Ms Simmin and Mr Simon, they helped my daughter understand the math and taught my daughter the foundation she needed for future math classes. Elite is probably the most radical choice for your childrens' SAT/ACT needs, but if you're not…read morewilling to pay the thousands of dollars for tuition and your child will be unable to handle nearly 5 hours of work, you'll have to think twice. Elite is known to be a extreme form of a cram school similar to that of those in Asia, to instruct children to prepare for the SAT/ACT. It's a common thing everyday to walk into this place, you'll see portraits of very few kids smiling with a list of them getting incredibly high scores, in which also show which school they are attending now, and slogans for success and information about ivy league schools. I get it, this is to show that they've had success educating kids and they're mighty fine proud of that, but let's be honest, it is a little demeaning for other students struggling to make ends meet. In fact, I've overheard a parent teacher conference with the headmaster of this place (I will not say the name for confidentiality), and believe me, I've never heard so much bad mouthing about the student behind his back, such as how he/she is going to fail school and is never going to go to a "good" (which in their level is a Ivy League) school and he'll end up getting a job after high school. In addition, when I had my child go here, the workload was just unbelievable; I don't know whose idea it was, but he/she practically made my child work 5-6 hours on SAT prep material instead of the same school work that takes my child to college (also, if he failed to bring it, he would be subjected to detention/push ups/"demerits"). What is really disturbing is that there are also video cameras in each room and monitored by the staff; I don't care if it there was a stabbing long time ago, it's pretty invasive. Speaking of colleges, these people also look down on students who have no intentions of attending either UC or Ivy Leagues, regardless of the reason. With all due respect, what I really think these people can try to improve on is their perception on reality and realize these students are just kids who are/aren't suited for the tremendous work load provided; does stuffing millions of questions and answers really help? Because I guarantee not every kid they see holds the 300 IQ they are dreaming about. Despite my tone, don't boycott or spit at the headmaster, because even I know these people are trying very hard to trickle one child to get into yale and princeton and it's really difficult to handle a bunch of kids (for the record, I was a tutor for a after school program and THAT was no easy job), especially for the headmaster, who has to deal with few troublemakers; but they should at least give a damn about those who won't make it to the big leagues or have troubles instead of berating them and casting them on the side so the vultures can pick them. Bottom line? Parents, send your children here if you truly fear that your children may not become the next CEO, doctor, lawyer, etc., because this place is the 911 for that emergency; I will not lie that these people will literally work their fingers to the bone to stuff gargantuan amounts of assignments to show to you they really mean business, and that they are probably even better than any SAT/ACT prep schools. However, be cautious, because if you know your child is already struggling with the workload he/she has from school, then plan on your own discretion.

In a world full of digital distraction, the Kumon at Fullerton provided an environment that foster learning and exceptional focus in each & every session. This is an excellent environment of learning. We have been in the program for about 6 months now, my wife and I are happy with the progress. We plan to continue Kumon for a long time. However, not all Kumons are created equal. Mrs. Patel is the owner of this center and I fully credit her hands on involvement to the success of my student. She really knows the individual students strengths and weaknesses and tailors their instruction time to push them forward. She is approachable at any time and even has parent teacher meetings. The zoom option wasn't the best fit for my child but they do have that option which is nice for summer break or in the case of illness. I am so grateful for this Kumon center!

We especially loved the festive performances for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the end of the school year--they were adorable! By the time my daughter entered TK, she already knew all her letters, numbers, and colors, and she could even write her full name. I've been so impressed with the growth she's made here and highly recommend this school.
