My first grader attended the 2024 summer program at Young Scholars Academy ("YSA") and now attends…read morethe writing class during the 2025 school year. She has always been a pretty good student, but YSA has made her much better. It's as if she is a different student now than she was before that summer, especially with confidence in writing. She has learned so many things so organically that it was fun for her. She also has amassed a notebook of "beautiful sentences" (her words) that she constructs each week for YSA and from which she later picks and chooses phrases for poetry/creative writing. This has directly led her to win awards at national literature competitions, which I don't think she would have done had she not been in YSA. What more, she has made friends at YSA through the entertaining field trips and Fun Fridays. She was the new girl, but the kids attending YSA were all very kind, friendly, and generous. My daughter didn't want the summer to end! And I can't say enough good things about her teachers and Ms. Esther, the director. The teachers at YSA are creative and detail-oriented, and they give the kids so much individualized attention because the class size is so small (6 to 8 students per teacher). Then there's Ms. Esther, who you can tell from the start really loves kids and cares about how they are doing. She knows each student by name and who their parents are, she regularly sends detailed texts and photos showing how the kids are doing, and her interaction with each child is colored by warmth. For example, she thinks so much about each child's well-being that she will gently move children into the shade at lunch lest they get too much sun (such a mom thing to do but so bracing to see when someone does it for your child). She also makes sure that they wash their hands at the right times, that they have all their belongings with them, and that they eat what their moms want them to eat before rushing off to play. Wow! The children are taken care of so well--physically, emotionally, and academically. Overall, YSA is superb, and I will sing its praises to no end.

We liked that he was able to work in the middle school-age content/cohort and push his growth beyond what he was getting in his regular 6th grade school class. We are very happy with the results, and my son didn't want to stop attending (rare for an academy!) when we recently let YSA go to focus on other activities. Miss Esther is always positive, flexible, and easy to communicate with. Her teachers did a good job of connecting with our son and motivating him to keep learning and developing. Things went well enough that we made a request for a series of special, private sessions to prepare my son for the written portion of the Whitney HS admissions exam. Miss Esther and her team worked out a schedule over the course of a month, and our son felt very confident and prepared for the exam. He felt good both before and after the test and ended up earning admission to Whitney! We are appreciative of the care and investment that the YSA team made in our son. We can't think of a higher recommendation than to say we are already planning to enroll our daughter at YSA in about a year when she prepares for middle school.

They were previously enrolled in the after-school program at the elementary school, but reports from the teachers, and my sons, quickly caused us to research new options. Here is a list of requirements I used to research/decide: 1. Must be open until 6pm. I work in. DTLA so I need to be able to have time to drive back to Brea through traffic. 2. Need transportation from school to place of care. 3. Located near my house, or my daughter's pre-school, or on my way home from work. 4. Must be run and managed by adults. 5. Must be able to help w/ my sons' homework. They are in dual immersion Spanish classes and all their homework and instruction is in Spanish. 6. Must have clam, friendly, clean place to work during the time they are in care. After a week or so of researching, I had it down to the Karate Studio in Fullerton, or Optimus Learning Center, across from Best Buy off Imperial and Beach. Once I saw the space, and met Ms. Rebecca, I decided to start them the very next month. They have been attending since the beginning of Dec. 2023 and I am extremely pleased. It is double the cost of the after-school program, even with the sibling discount, but this includes the cost to transport my children from school to the center each day and monitoring the bell/pickup schedules, and there are more adults per student for additional attention and help. Pros: 1. Open until 6pm 2. Have two locations in-case I need additional care 3. Are open on teacher/holiday school closure dates 4. Emphasis is on Academics 5. Calm atmosphere 6. Kids finish all homework at the center before pickup 7. Run by respectable adults who dress professionally 8. Other children in the space are respectful and obedient Cons: 1. No outdoor play area 2. On school closure dates, the Fullerton and Brea centers merge. The Brea location is far from our house, but I am still thankful they are opened. 3. Non-school days are 9am-6pm. Our after-school care was 7am-6pm daily. 4. They don't currently have the option for auto pay, so I have to wait for a receipt and then send payment through Zelle. Not horrible, just a little work to remember since my last program was automatic. Based on my experience, I believe Optimus Learning Center is a great after school program and I hope you will check them out. They've adapted the program to assist with my sons' homework (Spanish). One other note - they also offer engaging enrichment classes, tutoring, and piano lessons. I truly feel that Optimus Learning Center offers a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters growth and success. Thank you for reading this far. As a mom, I believe it's so important for children to learn basic self-defense not because I expect something bad to happen, but because I want them to have the confidence and skills to protect themselves if they ever need to. At first, my boys were nervous and intimidated. We visited a few schools before making a decision, but from the moment we walked into Teragi, we knew this place was different. Everyone made us feel like family. The professors and coaches are exceptional not only because of their experience and skill, but because they genuinely care about every child. They encourage, support, and meet each child where they are. I especially want to mention my youngest. Jiu-jitsu didn't come naturally to him at first, and he struggled to understand the techniques. The professors and coaches were incredibly patient and never made him feel like he was behind. They allowed him to learn at his own pace, and now it's amazing to see how much his confidence and skills have grown. That patience meant so much to our family. There's no pressure for kids to be the best. Every child learns differently, and the professors and coaches truly understand that. Since we homeschool, Teragi has become more than just a place to train. My boys have made wonderful friendships, and we've found an incredible community. I also have to mention how clean the academy is! It never has that old gym smell and is always welcoming. I've watched both of my boys grow not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. They're more confident, disciplined, and respectful. If you're on the fence about jiu-jitsu because you don't like the idea of your child being on the ground, I completely understand. I felt the same way. But the reality is that many real-life self-defense situations end up on the ground, and knowing what to do can make all the difference. The owners, professors, and coaches have cultivated a superb gym culture. This gym is safe, friendly, and supportive. The facility is modern and clean, and they've invested in a foam block subfloor beneath the mats for softer landings. As far as I know, this is the only gym in the area that offers women-only classes four times per week and a bi-monthly community open mat for gentlemen 40 years and older. My kids train here after school 4-5 days a week, and they love it. The kids' professors and coaches are experienced and amazing teachers. I'm especially thankful for the young coaches who were so patient and kind to my boys when they were hesitant and shy after first starting. And my pocketbook is especially thankful for the discounted rates for additional family members. If you're looking for a place where the whole family can train, grow, and feel welcome, I can't recommend Teragi highly enough.

By the way our kids also reported that one of the tutors even threw my kid's stuffed animal across the room against a wall. We understand our kid shouldn'tve brought it in the first place, but that doesn't excuse such violent behavior. Lastly our children built up thousands of "points" but never knew how to redeem them and were never even offered the chance to do so. In short, don't waste your time and money here. Your children deserve so much better.

I had such high hopes but unfortunately things didn't quite work out as I had hoped. The tutors were all wonderful and professional. They all tried so hard to help my son but unfortunately his behavior and disruption to others students became an issue. My other two kids did great at the end and were doing well but unfortunately my one son that desperately needed the most help, did not. I guess despite the great rating they cannot always help everyone. Each child has a different personality, learning style and ability and unfortunately it was my son that was too far to be reached. I wish that it could have worked out. But unfortunately I sensed a lot of frustration hence the long text messages as well as a brief update from Minera one afternoon. She updated me regarding my son's behavior and inability to move forward in the curriculum due to his refusal to show his work and knowledge of the subject. I sensed her frustration, in which I do not blame her. I would have hoped that they would have been able to be more professional and knowing how to deal with kids with ADHD like they said they did. It was discouraging and upsetting to see the opposite attitude, body language and demeanor this time around. Her voice as well as her facial expressions did not offer any sense of hope or recommendations to help improve or change the situation. I feel Minera gave me a false sense of hope and did not deliver their promise. Thank you to all the tutors though who did try to help my son. I deeply appreciate the time, patience you all put into my 3 kids, as for Minera, I am disappointed in your professionalism. You should not make assurances that you cannot keep.

I had a terrible experience with her first daycare (North Fullerton KinderCare) and had to pull her out after experiencing retaliation for reporting a teacher for abuse. I am the sole provider for my family so unfortunately staying home is not an option for me. I visited a couple of different daycares, explained my situation, asked a million questions and ultimately ended up deciding on CC's. My daughter adjusted to the change right away. The teachers were all nice, fun, and patient with her. My daughter doesn't respond well to grouchy teachers or to yelling, she tends to rebel more. Their approach for correcting her behavior worked because they paid attention to the little things that motivated her and their approach was not aggressive but rather compassionate. Michelle is resourceful and willing to help with information and resources, and she is very involved in the day to day. The communication and their way of handling every situation and behavior made all the difference. I knew my daughter was in good hands and because of that I had the peace of mind that I needed to be able to concentrate on work without the added stress that I was experiencing before. CC's was the best decision I ever made. She is now attending public school but I will definitely be taking her back for the summer.

They have clear communication on everything that's going on with the center (events, day to day activities, health checks, center closures) and you're given notice well in advance. Payment, check in/out, and communication are all done through Brightwheel (an app) and it's such a smooth process. Even though it's a bit modern, my in-laws (that are a bit older and have a harder time with technology) are still able use the app to pick up my daughter and enjoy the occasional pictures and videos that are sent through there. My daughter doesn't really take to strangers well. She did have an adjustment period but has soon blossomed in the infant classroom and loves her teachers. The teachers are caring and informative and we are so pleased with the kind of care they provide our daughter. And we know she's not the easiest baby. They have been able to help our child make huge progress with nap time and even with playing with other kids. I truly feel her personality has blossomed due to the work the infant room teachers put into our daughter. She always comes home happy from the day. The infant room itself (as well as the other rooms we toured in the facility) are also clean and does not have a smell. We toured other facilities where the smell was so strong it stayed with me the rest of the day and was actually one of the deciding factors in choosing CCs. My daughter also has an egg and milk allergy. They assigned high chair specifically for her and are always on the look out for any reactions from food. She recently outgrew her milk allergy but not the egg. During the recent mother's day Muffins with Mom's event, they provided a special vegan muffin for her so she can enjoy the event with me. The teacher running the event wasn't my daughter's regular teacher, but she recognized my daughter anyway and knew to offer me the vegan muffin. I was so touched by this gesture. We haven't had experience with the older classrooms, but have toured them and are rest assured my daughter will grow up well cared for and well educated here at CCs. We are excited for her to learn and grow here. We are so pleased with our experience that we've already reserved our spot for our next baby due in a few months. We highly recommend this daycare center and will recommend it to anyone look for care in the area.

The evening staff is also very attentive and is always keeping the cleaning standards with disinfecting the rooms to ensure sanitary environment. My children have been in every class where they have all been treated with love and care and they always want to go to daycare and at pick up want to stay to play. a mother always worries about dropping your children off, I have never felt that way. Jewel is the instructor for my younger son, and I can see his improvement every single lesson! Kaylyn teaches my 8-year-old son, and my husband was impressed by how much he has improved. Kaylyn and Jewel are both professional and amazing instructors with kind hearts! I highly recommend them!

It's by far the warmest pool we could find, and it's the only place where my son happily stays in the water without shivering. Our regular instructor is Mr. Nori, and he has been wonderful with my son. He's patient, encouraging, and fantastic with all of the kids I've seen in his classes. We recently missed a couple of lessons and had to attend makeup classes. For whatever reason, my son suddenly decided he didn't want to go back for his lesson. Miss Kaylee stepped in and was incredible. She tried everything she could to gently encourage him to go to the back pool, but when it became clear he wasn't going to do it, she didn't give up. Instead, she offered to work with him one-on-one in the front pool where we already were. She even promised she wouldn't put his head under the water. In the end, he became comfortable enough that he chose to put his face in the water on his own with her guidance, but she honored her promise and never forced him. That meant so much to me. I don't know if she was on her lunch break, between classes, or supposed to be doing something else, but I know that impromptu private lesson wasn't part of her day. She took the time simply because she cared, and it completely turned the experience around for my son. The best part is that it worked. Today my son happily got back in the water with Mr. Nori, and I honestly think it was his best lesson yet. Mr. Nori was so sweet, so encouraging, and genuinely proud of him. Seeing his confidence come back was such a great moment as a parent, and I really credit both instructors for making that happen. Every single person we've interacted with has been kind, welcoming, patient, and genuinely wonderful with kids. I honestly have not had a single negative experience here. The first class is free, the warm water makes such a difference, and the little splash pad was a huge part of getting my son's initial buy-in. We've been going to this school since they were in Fullerton, and they've always been great. My daughter started with Mr Nori and he's one of her favorite instructors. She's gone through a few instructors and we've never had a bad experience. My son now attends the school too. This morning, my daughter had a make up class and had to go into a different swim lane with a new teacher. She's been apprehensive about leaving her current school and starting kinder next year, and the emotions came out today. She started crying and holding onto me when she saw the new lane and instructor and said she doesn't want new things. Within seconds, Mr Scott came over and began comforting her asking if she'd like to see her other instructor Mayumi. Mayumi wasn't even dressed to go in the water, but rolled up her jeans and sat in another lane with her. Mr Nori came by to say hi and comfort her, and Mr Christopher gave her a private lesson for a few minutes while she adjusted. He eventually asked her if she wanted to join him in the new lane with the new instructor, and she said yes and was happy the rest of the time. Mayumi also came back to check on her. I love the place here. As a student here, I can say that I have gotten better at math then I was when I started. The instructors here are very nice and helpful. Whenever I am stuck on a question, they are happy to help. I think of Mathnasium to be something to look forward to. I love the prizes there and the options you can have. read more

This Mathnasium center has a very friendly staff, with frequent progress reports and other check-ins. I've never had an issue finding and booking time slots through their online portal. It is located in a big shopping center with restaurants and large retail stores, making it easy to run errands during tutoring. read more

If you want your child to learn, not this place, some high schooler come to check and teach your kids and they mark everything right and when its wrong, how unprofessional and also made the owner know what was happening and still the same issue. read more

She present herself as capable of supporting struggling students, but when it actually matters, especially in urgent situations like exam preparation, they turn families away. My son is in HONORs PROGRAM so being from private school to public school, and as a busy parent , I ask help from this center to guide my son in his academic however the gap between what is promised and what is delivered is significant. If your child needs consistent, reliable academic support, this is not the place. You may end up spending a substantial amount of money with little to no meaningful results.

God bless Ms Simmin and Mr Simon, they helped my daughter understand the math and taught my daughter the foundation she needed for future math classes. Fast forward to today, my daughter graduated culinary school this year, is a master at her fractions (because cooking) and she is now working at the Walt Disney World Resort as a chef! Now, he's confidently counting and writing numbers and he continues to make great progress every week he's now learning to read as well. The instructors are incredibly patient and encouraging, they really take the time to help him understand each step. What I love most is how excited he gets to go to his sessions. It's clear that the Kumon team has created a positive and motivating learning environment. I was worried about putting him in at 3 yrs old but he loves it there and he's only 4 now! My soon-to-be 8th grader was going to this facility for over a year. Since they have a policy in…read morewhich parents are not allowed inside, the expectation was that the staff was going to communicate with me. Communication was never initiated on their end. I would have to ask about progress. The expectation we had was that my daughter was being helped in math and reading. Just for reference, there were times my daughter was allowed to enter Francisco's facility and walk right out with the new work. When I questioned her, she said it was okay. She said the tutors would review her work and let her know the following week how she did. We recently transferred to another Kumon facility closer to her new school. As soon as I met the owner of this facility, I knew Francisco ripped me off. This new facility utilizes an app to facilitate conversation between parents and staff. They also have regularly scheduled parent meetings to discuss the progress of the child. I never had one with Francisco. The new facility requires 30 minutes of one on one tutoring per subject. They require you to schedule a time to enter so that the facility has enough tutors on staff to meet the needs of the students. Francisco has a "drop in whenever" policy and I have seen his facility crammed with students with only a handful of tutors. Definitely not one-on-one tutoring. Sadly, now that we are about two weeks into our experience with the new facility, we have learned that Francisco and his staff didn't help my daughter as much as we expected. With the one-on-one tutoring, we have found that the Francisco's tutors allowed her to move on in a section without demonstrating mastery. It was nice getting those little certificates; however, they now mean nothing. I'll also add that this new facility charges the same amount but we got far more for our $$$. Lastly, I will add that Francisco tried to con me out of a whole month's tuition stating that Kumon requires that I pay for the whole month, even if I gave fair warning of our leaving in the middle of a month. I called Kumon HQ and the representative there said that it wasn't a policy of theirs and that each facility is independently owned and operated. I informed Francisco that he lied and that it wasn't Kumon's policy and that he was trying to squeeze more money out of me. He relented after being caught and I paid a prorated amount for the month. IF YOU THINK THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU, THINK AGAIN. I spent a lot of money here only to realize by going to another Kumon that there are better facilities. My daughter lost a whole year's worth of work and we are out $$$. This facility is a rip off.
