Stopped at this small grocery store to get sandwiches to go for a beach outing. I had the Reuben, cranberry walnut chicken salad, and an Italian Stallion (all around $11/$12 each). Friendly service. Not the hugest selection of items, but nice option to have in the walkable neighborhood. read more

Deli sandwiches are a mess. Sandwich ingredients don't match what's listed or what you order. Sometimes the sandwich comes hot, other times cold, for the same item. Hard to look forward to mystery results. Grocery itself is fine... just overpriced. read more

My experience with Loeb's is entirely with their sandwiches. I have found them to be made as given in their descriptions and to be tasty. There are many special sandwiches (and you can pick the bread or roll), but you can, of course, specify our own ingredients and bread. The counter people are friendly and helpful and the sandwiches were made quickly. The checkout people are very nice. They have some parking spots for the store which is very helpful in Lenox! read more

Totally nice little establishment. Pretty decent sandwiches for the price. Only went there the once and had a roast beef sandwich (I believe called Brendan's favorite). My parents have been bringing me and my siblings to Loeb's for as long as I can remember during our Tanglewood weekends. Now that I go on my own, it's become a tradition to stop in for a sandwich and some chips to bring to the show. Parking can be a challenge during the busy season and you may have to park a block or two away -- but Lenox is totally walkable so it's not a big deal. The deli line moves s-l-o-w-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-y so park your feet and do some people-watching. The Lesley B. is my favorite sandwich here (just had it yesterday!). You can get a sandwich and chips for less than $8, beating the prices at Tanglewood and the quality at Subway. Make sure to walk around the block and grab some French macarons at Patisserie, too. read more

Loeb's - Why does everyone rave about this place? Is it because it's one of a handful of locally owned stored in the area; no. Is it the only place on the block that you can grab a quick meal and be on your way; no. Is Loeb's the only place in town or even on the block to run in and grab some snacks, certainly not. Loeb's is a quaint store in Lenox that tries to offer everything under the sun from its hand crafted sandwiches, bags of chips, fruit and vegetable to soda, wine and almost anything else you could find at any other grocery store in the Berkshires. So what's the difference here? You're going to pay for it. Yup, I said it; you're going to pay for the convenience of going to Loeb's rather than literally driving 7 minutes out of your way to Price Chopper or to Stop & Shop. Not only are they over priced, but if your order is under $5 dollars and use your credit card they shall charge you a fee of .50 Not only is this a slap in the face to those who use this place out of convenience but it's ILLEGAL! Loebs Foodtown is a small supermarket in the center of Lenox. I am reviewing a terrific sandwich from their deli counter which earned them the stars. I had the roast beef special on 7" french bread for$7.49. It was so good I had another the next day. Rare top round beef cooked on the premises, sliced thin, along with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese choice, and dressing choice. Also you can select a different bread or roll if you'd opt out of the French. I had Chipotle gouda cheese the first time and swiss the next. Delicious. They have lots of other sandwiches, too. Its takeout of course but there are tables out front facing Main Street or you could cross the street into Lilac Park. They'll supply napkins and plastic utensils. read more

Loeb's is very convenient. Small, but convenient. It's also a Lenox institution. They have a deli which make AMAZING sandwiches. Seriously delicious. Eat them! My favorite is the a ham/cheese/apple one called the Big Jim. They also sell beer, wine, and liquor as well as the usual small grocery store food items. It's not the cheapest place in the world, but it's the closest gorcery store to Tanglewood and the only one in the hamlet of Lenox. I recommend trying out the selection of local baked goods that are kept near the cash registers. read more

In downtown Lenox, Loeb's is the only store of its kind, but that doesn't mean that it can charge exorbitant prices for basics stuff. Overall, I found the prices to be about double what I usually pay. While I appreciate locally run stores, I am not a fan of price gouging. Loeb's has a dictator-like hold on Lenox as it is the only food mart in town. I occaisionally go in thinking "i need..." and after seeing it's dark cramped aisles and lack of selection leave thinking "i still need..." Rarely do I review anything; That said, my latest experience at Loebs was so exceptionally terrible it warranted this review. Loebs is a quaint small grocery store in the heart of touristy Lenox Massachusetts; Location and a stellar selection of potato chips are the only thing it has going for it though. Recently my girlfriend and I stopped quickly to frequent the deli for a sandwich. The woman who graced us, after belching at the counter, with service was incredibly rude at best. After practically ridiculing me for admiring their rotisserie she not-so promptly asked my girlfriend her order. She did however promptly forget what she asked for and seemed almost aggravated when she had to ask again. It was not busy enough to use 'being overwhelmed' as an excuse; we were the only ones at the deli counter staffed by 4 people. My hope was that the terrible customer service was only going to be from the woman at the deli counter but that was not the case; the woman at the checkout was equally unpleasant and only truly acknowledged us when taking our form of payment. I love local business and I am not turned off having to spend a bit extra to keep my money local. In doing so though I expect certain things and one of those things is at-least to feel tolerated by the help. That was not the case. I will NEVER be returning to Loebs. My hopes with this review is that you don't return or patronize this grocery either. There are FAR better options within five minutes drive, especially heading north on route 7; locally owned options with better selections, fresher selections, and exceedingly better service. read more

Cannot understand the negative reviews, unless those people were looking for something of low quality and corporate cookie-cutter-ness and accidentally stumbled into Loeb's instead. Sheesh! Yes, it is a SMALL TOWN little neighborhood grocery that also happens to have a FABULOUS little deli serving fresh, tasty sandwiches, soups, and treats. The prices are right in line with other sandwich shops. Do not expect tasteless, spongy bread here. The lettuce is crisp and green. The meats are of absolute top quality and sliced to order. Maybe that's what threw them for a loop. Between the generous serving size and the freshness of the ingredients, you more than get your money's worth. (Hint to visitors: Just because this deli is not in the city, don't think everything will be dirt cheap. You get what you pay for in life.) read more

Loebs has the best sandwiches in town and I love their French bread. They make their own roast beef on site and take great pride in the quality of their meat and deli department. I never go there for my regular shopping but am happy to have a place nearby to go to if I run out of milk or need that one recipe ingredient. Taking a star off for prices and dated interior but I think the one star reviews are a bit harsh. It doesn't have the footprint of a big grocery store so it's not fair to compare it to one. I've now been to Loeb's 3 times for lunch sandwiches and I have to say that each time has been wonderful. The sandwich roles are fresh and tasty. The fixings are top of the line and the price for a 7" sandwich is very reasonable. I live over an hour away and each time I come this way I'll be stopping for a Big Earl's or a Brendan's Favorite. As for the store itself, it's old school and not bright and lit like a Stop and Shop or Big Y. But I didn't expect that either. Overall a great place for a sandwich to go. read more

I love Loeb's. Been going there since childhood, and I'm 62 now. And.. to the person who said that it's illegal to charge a small surcharge for credit card purchases, that is not correct. The law that you cited pertains to sellers who are bumping up the cost of their merchandise for credit card purchases, to induce the buyer to pay with cash. Small businesses & restaurants have to pay fees to allow customers to use credit cards, and these businesses also have the right to charge a fee that is up to 4% of the purchase, per their agreement with the credit card company. Small businesses who have a small processing fee..such as 50 cents for purchases under $5, are only recouping the money that they have to put up to allow you to use your credit card..with such a small purchase. It is perfectly legal. Loeb's does not have signs saying..We Offer Discounts With Cash Purchases. This is the reason why many small businesses insist on cash only..and don't deal with credit card purchases at all. It costs the small businesses money to allow credit card purchases. And then..people who don't understand the law complain about a measly 50 cent processing fee, that is meant only to recoup their money spent to allow credit card purchases at all. Loeb's is a wonderful store, and a historic town landmark, and I think it's fabulous that Loeb's has had the same owners seemingly forever. My dad worked for Loeb's back in the late 60s. My dad passed in 1996 at age 80, had lost touch with the owners of Loeb's for about 30 years, and they sent a lovely bouquet of flowers for my dad's funeral. So kind of them. Good people..not the sort of people who would play "get the customer" with illegal credit card charges. Their fee is most correct. Thank you! read more

I love this store! It's great not to shop in a super-supermarket--miles of aisles of crap. It's great to know the owners of the store where I spend my money, and to be able to request things that I know I'll buy. It's great not to have to sift through 67 types of toothpaste and 19 types of oreos. It's great to buy what's fresh, and Loeb's does get what's fresh. Loeb's sells food and things by which to make food. I'm so happy to have quit Route 7 and to do as much of my shopping as I possibly can on foot in the town where I live. Long live Loeb's!! read more
