I grew up in Lee, MA and moved to the Boston area after college; however come to the Berkshires every 4-6 weeks and always take my Dad to Big Y during our day of errands. We get pizza and grinders from there because the food is pretty fantastic. The entire past 5 years I have NEVER been treated respectfully by the woman who works at the pizza/grinder counter despite always being my friendly upbeat self. Today I thought thank God someone else is waiting on me, it was some guy. Nope, I was wrong. The lady and the man Big Y has working in their Lee, MA store should be fired. Period. Get people who know how to be civil and can speak to the public, because they CAN'T. I put up with it until today - no more. read more

This is a HUGE Big Y so I was expecting a lot more sales. But honesty, the one in Great Barrington had better deals overall. I went to both within a 2 day period. This Big Y had a lot of variety in products which makes it great to shop in. There is a huge selection of packaged foods and meats. Their produce section leaves a bit to be desired but still very decent over all. There is a nice deli and bakery area as well. There is even a whole aisle dedicated to pets! Why are there no handbaskets? You guys deserve one star because there is no valid reasons - I went in expecting to buy 15 boxes of tazo tea, I know this sounds ridiculous but not any more ridiculous than me looking for a handbasket and being told that there are no longer hand baskets because of Covid.. Really you have customers touching everything possible in your store including the self check out and pushing their own shopping carts but you can't supply your customers with handbasket? When asked an employee where can I find one he told me because of Covid they stop supplying them. Really and then I asked him explain this to me please- how? Why? I was in the express lane with 7 things to bag, and while she may have been in NO HURRY late in the afternoon on a holiday, I sure was, so I started bagging my groceries. She looked at me like I was insane (is bagging your own groceries out here illegal?). "We don't charge for bags" she said. To which I was thinking "what the HELL is she talking about??!!" but decided not to reply and just stared at her. This is my favorite large local grocery store. The essential workers have gone above and beyond to provide excellent food and stocked shelves. We have asked them to carry a product or two that is local to the Boston area and the next thing you know, our favorite ice cream was there in the freezer. Pizza is affordable and good. Store is not designed to effectively bag groceries. The checkout process should be simple. The cart should be unloaded as items are scanned. There should be places to stage bags to load. Cannot bag groceries with a hand that doesn't work so well. read more

Good supermarket. Wish they had better signage off the highway (the gas station is directly off the exit but we weren't sure which way to turn to get to the market). It was clean, had a good selection, and decent prices. My brother and I each ordered a sandwich from the deli and they were good (and cheap). This is a really nice super market. They have a great selection, the staff is friendly and helpful, and it's rather spacious. Parking isn't a pain, which is nice. They use a shopping card for savings, which as a visitor I don't love, but I can deal with it. A nice addition to Lee. read more

I'm going to give it 3 stars only because of a cashier at the customer service counter. It was very busy at 5:00 PM .on a weekday night. Lines were long and Steve the manager was very helpful and busy coordinating everyone to go to different registers to speed up the wait time. He was very nice and helpful in doing so. He told me I could go to the customer service desk to check out because I only had a few things, and was so kind to weigh my grapes for me because customer service desk dont have a scale. I was so happy he let me avoid those long lines. However I encountered Candice at the counter who was not very friendly seemed annoyed at her job and helping customers. I never get why someone is in a customer service job If they have no people skills. Very rude and didnt even say hello or thank you, I got nothing. I tried reassuring her to get her motivated but she wasn't interested in even smiling. Please if you dont like people dont work in a customer service position. It is my biggest pet peeve to see workers not even say thank you to customers. I wish i could just give a class in how to treat all customers. But on a positive note big shout out to Steve for helping the lines go quicker. read more

I'm not impressed at all by this grocery store. As far as shopping environments go, the customers that stand out to me are your typical combination of rich and eccentric South Berkshire county and New York City people, and the store staff is like the cast of a high school teen drama. I honestly feel like I'm walking into a millenial soap opera when I enter the store. I'm from Springfield and my family and I prefer quiet shopping without people's personalities thrown in. Price chopper in Lenox is a nicer place to shop, and I might even head twenty minutes south to the Great Barrington Big Y, which has a better selection and nicer flooring. read more

My husband and I like the Big Y in Lee, a welcome addition to the area. The produce is quite good, and there is lots of variety. No, this is not on a par with Whole Foods or Guido's, a local Berkshires gem, but it is quite dependable and consistent. We are happy to have such a high-quality supermarket nearby. read more

I never thought about writing a review of a grocery store but after last night's experience, I just had to. I stop by this location when I get off the turnpike on my way up to Pittsfield, if I need a few things. I rarely shop for a long list of groceries there because I generally find Big Y to be more expensive than Price Chopper. But I do like their roasted chicken, which is what I was after. I picked up a few more things and when I got to check out I realized I needed one more item from the produce section. I asked the cashier if she could have her associate run over to get it for me and when this young man came to the cashier's lane, he responded with "why can't she get herself?". I was stunned with that response and was sure I misheard it but the poor young girl waiting on me was so embarrassed herself that indeed she had heard the same thing. She urged me to tell the front end manager and I was pleased the manager was receptive. It was discomforting to know that he had behaved that way before apparently, according to manager, but nonetheless they were at least receptive to addressing customer feedback. However, the experience left me less than enthused about returning. Next time I will just drive further up the road to Price Chopper in Lenox. read more

I recently had visited several grocery stores in North Berkshire looking for Sun Dried tomatoes. I had zero luck and less help from the busy store employees. I had given up when later in the day I stopped at Big Y Lee. I came upon a store clerk stocking shelves and asked if they had and sun dried tomatoes in the store. Now it was busy here also. He politely responded that he would find them for me. He did ask a co worker and soon there after had them right in front of us a few lanes over. He explained it was his first week as an emplyee of Big Y Lee and he apologized for not knowing himself where they were and having to ask. I explained that the exercise we just went thru would benefit both of us. He smiled and thanked me for shopping at Big Y. As he walked away he was whistling a song that stuck with me. It was the song from Green Acres. the part about the song that goes The PLACE TO BE stuck with me and I can tell you Big Y in Lee is the place to be.
