The food, service, and total atmosphere here is great. I got a large chopped plate with a baked potato, potato salad, hush puppies, and sweet tea for around $10. The BBQ was great. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and the homemade potato salad was excellent. I ate one of the onion rings that a friend ordered. They were homemade and delicious. Everything about this restaurant from the location, environment, wait staff, parking, and the food were spot on. Next time I'm back in Albemarle for any reason, I'll be back here to eat. So this use to be one of our favorite places to eat but the good ole days are long gone and in its place are servers who should retire and a computer system that has made things way to complicated. From ordering to checking out. It took out family of 6 adults and 2 small children over 35 minutes standing at the register to check out because they couldn't figure out how to split up the ticket or which drink went with which order, we tried to help them but they just kept saying it's their system and it won't let them do it. My brother in law finally got his bill paid after 10-15 min and then they just couldn't ring us up. Kept blaming it on the computer. Finally my husband said how about you tell me the total of all of it and subtract what my brother in law paid and I will pay it all. It took them another 10 minutes to do that! The problem started with the older server (nothing against elderly) just saying she had a time just using the handheld device to place our order and to top it off she got our orders wrong and then every time she brought things to the table, drinks included she sat them right in front of my 1 year old granddaughter! When she brought the second plate of hot food holding it right over her head and then sat it in front of her. I said please don't put hot food in front of her and lo and behold she came with another plate right over her head and sat it down in her reach! I can't imagine how people eat here on their lunch breaks with how long it took! We were there over an hour and a half and half that time was trying to check out!!! Consistency is a good thing, especially when it is about consistently good barbecued pig - enter Log Cabin Bar-B-Que. Located deep in Lexington style BBQ country, it breaks that mold in a number of ways - none of which detracted from the quality of the cooked pig offered here, and one of which actually enhances it. - The peppery sauce. They cook shoulders here, out back over hickory coals, chop the meat a little on the fine side, and don't sauce it out of the kitchen. Add a nice dose of the house sauce - it is hot, and transforms this pig into something special, at least for me, much more in the Eastern NC style. They offer 2 slaws - a white, mayo based one with bits of carrot, and a sweet undertone - and a red BBQ slaw which is different from most in the area - it has a little pimento, and some tomato - a little more salad than slaw, IMO. I would pass on both - take the Cue straight, and put their sauce on liberally (only time I like that concept), and you are coming close to a life changing experience. The Hush Puppies here are very nice - round and tasty, perfectly cooked. The Chili Dog here is outstanding - just don't get it with slaw, especially their "BBQ Slaw", messes up a very good dog.They have some interesting desserts here including Lemon Sundrop Cake. 4 1/2 stars would be my choice here. read more

This is an awesome little place. I've ate here a lot since I came into the area. The food is delicious and the service is on point. It's always a busy place but the bar top always has seating open. You can tell the locals are like family in this place. It's always clean and everything is well kept. I don't know how the girls in the kitchen keep up with as many tickets they put up but they do a damn good job. 10/10 recommend. read more

For the price there is a lot of food! They have red slaw, which I had never heard of before trying here. They offer chopped, pulled, and sliced pork bbq. The grilled pimento sandwich was great! Ran across this place on the internet. The pics of the bbq looked really good so my wife and I decided to give it a try. Drove about 45 minutes to get there. Well worth the drive. Wife and I both got a small chopped plate. She got white slaw and fries . I got red slaw and tater tots.Bbq was not too wet and not too dry and had a good smoky taste. Sauce was vinegary with a bit of a pepper kick. Hushpuppies were the size of golf balls but were cooked perfectly. White slaw was good but the red was excellent. I could have eaten a bowl full. Man this place is a hit. If you're in town and looking for some Q - this is the place to go. Perfect for every Carolina Q fan. You can take your buddy from Greenville and your cousin from Hickory. They'll both be happy. Why? Because this bbq has a good East-meets-Lex flavor to it and if ya need more vinegar, there is sauce on the table. I recommend the chopped bbq plate myself. You get two sides and definitely get some Tea with it. I've been there a few times already and took the kids too. Very good place to feed the fam on the cheap. The ladies that work there are nice and the service is as expected. Be wary of the dinner rush, this place can fill up fast. But if you don't mind waiting a lil bit, you'll get a table in no time. Great, wood-smoky pork barbecue. Typically I'm partial to the mouthfeel of chopped on a sandwich, but there's no denying that their pulled pork option was the richest, moistest, smokiest between the two. The half inch thick pulls were more like something you'd see at a whole hog pig pickin' than a restaurant. It was nice to have a choice between white and red slaw - the sweet, creamy white was the perfect contrast to the piquant, peppery vinegar in the sauce. The sweet tea was perfect and the hush puppies were like freshly fried sweet white corn donuts. With such mixed reviews my husband and I thought we would give it a shot! We did stay away from the tea and chopped pork as those were most complained about in the past reviews. So.... I had the grilled chicken, fries and white slaw. Overall good choices, chicken wasn't very warm but had good flavor. Slaw was ok but nothing to write home about, it was your typical mayo based slaw. Fries were really good and crisp. My husband on the other hand had the pulled pork with fries and hush puppies. He said the pork was dry and tasteless and the sauce on the table didn't help to correct that at all. Fries of course were great and the hush puppies were very tasty although they looked over cooked they weren't. The waitress was quick and attentive unlike what was documented in other reviews. Located just up the road from Whispering Pines (the other BBQ in Albemarle, NC), Log Cabin, in my opinion, is my favorite by a slight margin - and its all because of the house BBQ sauce. Chopped, sliced, or pulled - the BBQ is almost always moist and always tastes great. Service is always friendly and the prices are affordable for any budget. Log Cabin is ok. They have a bar-b-que salad which is interesting and tasty, though I'm not sure the bar-b-que is cooked anywhere near wood. Their hushpuppies are round, flavorful and well-fried and their homemade sauce is spicy and vinegary. My favorite. I've had good service each time I visited, though sometimes it's been friendlier than others. Near closing and during busy times some of the staff seem too hurried to be friendly. They have some outdoor seating and three rooms for dining inside, but the place can fill up pretty quickly. It's a popular, affordable spot in Albemarle. read more

Only have vinegar based BBQ sauce, no tomato based sauces. They do not have any sort of ribs or brisket at all, so only come here if you like burgers or pork. While this is not the best barbecue I've ever had in the world (I've eaten a lot of barbecue), this is the one I visit the most. And I'm going to have to say, this is one of the most consistent restaurants I go to, and that's what I love. I know what to expect from the Log Cabin, and I know I'm going to like it. I know the portions are going to be a good size, and I know I'm not going to be disappointed with the quality of the food. There are times when there is a wait, but it's usually when the restaurant is crowded. There are times when the waitress may not be super attentive, but again, it's usually related to the crowd. And be forewarned, there's usually a good size crowd there, especially at the main meal times. If you're looking for consistent good food, this is a good place to go. read more
