I was wanting to eat a little healthier tonight so I decided to venture to Porky's. They had several healthy options on the menu and I enjoyed my meal. The place is not fancy but it's clean. They sport a 99.5 sanitation grade. The restrooms were clean. The atmosphere is very family friendly. Our server was friendly and efficient. I ordered the grilled chicken plate. I got a baked sweet potato and a trip to the salad bar as my sides. Both were good. They have a nice salad bar with fresh ingredients. My companion got a barbecue salad that came three large hush puppies. It was also good. We left full and happy. read more

Pretty nice looking place with the country feel. Service was fast and attentive. However the BBQ sandwiches were kind of a let down. There was no flavor. Had to douse with their sauce which is pretty good. I think the vinegar base has more flavor than the thicker counterpart. read more

Not sure about the current 3.2 stars. I gave 5 stars because my experience was 5 stars. I was greeted with a warm China Grove hospitality. I knew nothing about this restaurant but was intrigued by the same titled 1981 movie fictitiously based in 1954 Florida. It was busy on a mid-day Sunday after church crowd. A lot of slower moving older folk obviously dressed for church. Being alone, I quickly seated myself at the diner like bar stool near the kitchen. I got quick and friendly service. My food arrived within minutes. I had the Sunday special and did not regret substituting in fried okra and sweet potato casserole. Love me some dark meat fried chicken. The menu oozes in everything southern that makes Nor Car dining great! The prices were very reasonable. The taste was wonderful. Just what I needed before a 2.7 mile hike up Crowders Mountain before a 600 mile Memorial Weekend race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. read more

Woah-oh, China Grove! We stopped in for a late lunch and had no wait time whatsoever. Even after we ordered, it was less than 5 mins for our food to arrive. Everything was fresh other than the hush puppies, which still had good flavor. The chopped BBQ was moist and flavorful even without sauce. The "white" slaw was not sweet (which IMO is the way it's supposed to be) and delicious in combo with the BBQ. Hubs 1/2 slab of ribs was a hunk of the most tender meat, and the yeast roll was so sweet and irresistibly soft. We were in and out of there in 30 mins and happily stuffed. Menu is extensive! Traveling through and dont usually stop at Barbecue places because I'm picky but I'm glad I did. The Barbecue had a great flavor and the portion was large. I got the chopped barbecue sandwich and it wasn't overly chopped. It was just right. Great service and nice atmosphere. Definitely worth stopping by and having lunch or dinner. read more

I liked the food a little more than Gary's down the road, which puts me in the minority I guess, from looking at the overall rating for each, but that's why you can't always go by the ratings, and this is one of those times where it paid off (for me at least). I just got a small BBQ tray. Nothing special. It was solid/decent. Hush puppies were kinda old, but had good flavor. What brought everything up to 4 stars was the epic customer service I received, and I'm a funny lookin weirdo kinda guy, so my server's southern hospitality was on point and sharp as a razor. DISGUSTING! The only thing they having going for them is the hush puppies. I ordered chicken salad, there were pickles in the chicken salad, too much. It tasted like relish and mayo. My family has dined at Porkys for many years. Last night my husband and I stopped in for supper. We each got a one trip salad bar and a Sunday Special. While we were at the salad bar our food came out. I ate my food so it wouldnt get cold and was going to take my salad home. The lady waiting on us said I could not take my salad home. I would have understood this had I got the all you can eat but I got the one trip and in the past have always been able to take my purchases home. I asked her if this was a new thing and she said No it even says it on the menu. This is ridiculous that I could not take my leftovers home after paying for them. Stop by today and ordered a foot long and a chopped sandwich with white slaw to go - this was right at 11:30AM. After waiting 25 minutes, 25 flippin minues, I left with no hot dog, no sandwich,no more patience, and no intent of ever coming back to this absolute train wreck of a restaurant. They are so poorly organized that the Federal Government could show them how to improve their effiency. After placing my order, I stood in front of the window area where orders were placed by the kitchen staff - well, staff maybe be a bit generous. Several times items of food fell, or were jarred, off of plates, and the waitresses simply picked them up and put them back on the plate. Orders would be left sitting for up to 5 minutes while choas reigned all around. The waitress who took my by now obviously lost order, said she was sorry for the delay, and that they had just gotten a rush in the last few minutes. I mentioned that based on the way they were handling it, it must have been the first time that had happen I ask about my order after 15 minutes, and seeing that folks who arrived after me were getting their orders,and was assured it was only 4 tickets down the line - after several minutes, I was given an order that was not mine. After several more minutes I was given another order, and was in the parking lot walking toward my car, when the woman who appeared to be in charge (again this is a both a generous and charitable description of her position and capabilities) screamed that I had the wrong order - again. I trudged back into the abyss, knowing full well at this point that all was lost.. Inside, I was ask yet again, what my order consisted of - I requested that they simply forget it, and should my order ever appear to give it to someone in need of a cold meal. read more

Stopped here while doing some location scouting and the staff was really friendly. We sat outside because we had a few dogs and they brought us ice cold water for the pups. I had the chicken special and changed the sides to a sweet potato and mac & cheese without an upcharge. The mustard bbq sauce on the chicken was finger licking good, but some of the chicken was a bit dry so the extra sauce came in handy. The sweet potatoe was cooked just right and sweet with just butter, the mac and cheese could have been creamy. Hand down my favorite bbq place in North Carolina. I managed a factory down the street from here and would eat here a few times a week. Pull pork sandwiches and sauce is the amazing. Porky's... While the name reminds one of the old early 80s movies of the same name, this place is plain, simple, country cooking. I went for the buffet, which my boss said was very good. Well, he was pretty much correct. As it was a buffet (you can also order from the menu), I made a point to try as many things as possible, possibly gaining a pound along the way... Started with a tiny bit of salad. The salad bar was pretty standard, except I think they might make their own dressing. The thousand island dressing was very light in color and had a large amount of the relish in it. It was ok, though... The fried chicken was ok, the coating tasted good, but the meat, itself, was kind of bland (I'm guilty of salting the living daylights out of food, so it might be better to others). I quickly moved on to the mashed potatoes & gravy, which had beef in it. This was the best thing on the bar, in my opinion, and I went back for more. I saw one bin with something deep fried in it. It looked a little suspect, so I asked what it was. Turns out it was chicken gizzards, so I was glad I asked... Next, I tried the bbq, itself. They have two types of bbq sauce on the table. The vinegar style and the other. I used the vinegar style and it was very potent. Fortunately for me, I like very strong flavors, so it was a good thing, for me. If you aren't into strong flavors, go easy with it... The last thing I tried was the chicken pot pie. I'm not much of a pot pie person, so I wasn't expecting much (I only got a small spoonful). The food is great but management is horrible!! I had a great waitress that was trying her best but management (an older lady) was holding her back. So sad she could not do her job because her manager was being difficult. The manager even looked me in the eye and said I had to wait even though I was before the order placed on the phone. Other customers were complaining about this older lady as well "manager" as well to me. Could be a great establishment with better management and management with manners!!! Try r&r in concord. I stopped here with my daughter to grab lunch today and found out that we've been being charged 3.29% xtra for our food because we use credit card. ?? As I was on my way to dinner my car caught a flat tire at the gas station next door. We were starving so we walked into porkys. A bit confused at first we walked in and there was so sign telling anther it was seat yourself or not. So after a minute or 2 of being stared at we finally just sat down. It was odd because everyone else that came in was greeted and told "sit where you like." Anyways we decided to get the buffet. There were a lot of choices hamburger steak. Pork chops, mac n cheese, cabbage. Pintos, etc. All of the food was lackluster. Nothing was overly flavorful. The bbq was fatty and not good in my opinion.
