Stew beef and potatoes Chicken breast or so my receipt stated, was actually a thigh.

If you like homemade food, fast. This is your place. Working folks favor it over fast food, good choice. Little bit pricey but overall good food. The chicken breast I received must of been the runt of the litter but tasted fine. I may not return but it was worth the chance.

Another unassuming place out off the beaten path. A local brought us here after stopping into the nearby BBQ joint that was also a must-see. Here he swore the pies were the best thing going. I wouldn't have guessed it by the presentation. But that's southern food for you - never judge the book by its cover. Excellent flavor plated on Styrofoam and wrapped in plastic. We got coconut pie and chocolate pie. I'm not into confectioner's coconut so that was a hard pass. The chocolate pie was light and airy along with the fluffy topping. If the coconut pie was anything like it I'm sure it was good stuff. There were at least 5 other flavors of pie to choose from, including pecan, sweet potato and an Oreo/cookies and cream I now regret not trying. The restaurant had regular food but it seemed so much like a cafeteria buffet that I wouldn't have been interested in eating here, even if I hadn't already eaten a bellyful of BBQ down the road. Prices weren't bad, staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean and decorated tastefully. The patronage stared us out-of-towners down hard when we waltzed in with a bee-line to the pie. The "Ashes of Problem Customers" jar beside the nativity was a ballsy move. I like it.

    Large dumplins.

This is a fantastic only in the South mom n pops diner attached to a convenience store. It is country, home style cooking and it is amazing and the place to be in town! Thursdays is my fave day to go, that's "dumplins day". Their dumplins are the best I have ever had next to what my Grandmother use to make. Same with the green beans, I wont eat any but what my grandmother canned and rhese taste just like them, delicious!!! The price of them recently went up but its still a great deal. Friday is hamburger steak day, it is fabulous as well, huge piece of steak. There is a special every week day, M thru F. If you are lucky enough to get there when they still have doughnuts, try one, they are fabulous and only .50 cents each. They are also open for breakfast but I haven't ever gone then so I can't speak on that but your meal will come with a bread choice and I suggest you get a biscuit, its free wirh your meal. I usually buy extra biscuits to take home, worth every penny of the .25 cents each they charge. It can get extremely crowded at peak times and hard to find a parking spot so don't be surprised if you can't find one. Line inside can get really long but it goes super fast, you can be at the end of a line of 20 people and be done in less than 10 minutes. These folks know what they are doing! Their tea is good but I took off one star cause they went from Pepsi products to coke and for me that's one of the worst mistakes a restaurant can make.

The menu offers the classic breakfast staples, but the food itself lacked flavor and was fairly ordinary. Nothing was poorly cooked, but there wasn't anything that stood out or made me want to come back. The service was also just okay--it wasn't particularly attentive. One of the biggest frustrations was discovering that the restaurant is cash only. There was no obvious notice when you entered, and didn't realize it until it was time to pay, when I noticed a small sign near the cash register. In today's world, where most restaurants accept cards or mobile payments, it would be helpful if this policy were posted more prominently at the entrance or mentioned before ordering. Overall, I can understand why it's a familiar spot for many locals, but based on my experience, it didn't offer anything that set it apart from an average breakfast diner. I left feeling disappointed, especially considering all of the recommendations.

Allysa crepe- I would have ordered another plate if we didn't have another 2 hr drive to go. Between the fluffy eggs and the combination of the ingredients with absolutely mouth watering. I asked for hot sauce and it was complete. I would drive out of my way to come back here again. Morning glory sandwich- I don't know who raised these chickens to give such a different taste to them, but they were raised right. These were definitely happy chickens. Hard to explain but this sandwich and those fluffy eggs will keep you wanting more. Everyone there is so sweet and I'm happy to have had the experience of such an excellent breakfast. This is a rare find and I will be revisiting again.

The inside feels like (or is?) part counter restaurant and part antiques store. I knew I had come for a hot dog and the folks behind the counter were patient while I decided on a side item, ultimately settling on onion rings. I hung out until they handed me a paper bag with my order. I had parked right out front so I didn't have far to go to enjoy my lunch. Everything (especially the onion rings) was really hot. The footlong was really good. The dog itself might have been fried and it was great to see pretty full coverage across the full dog. Onion rings were pretty greasy, as evidenced by the dark spot soaking through the paper bag. They were tasty though. I did go back in to ask for an extra couple ketchup packets. If I'm in the area, I'd return to Goody Shop cafe and try some of their other offerings.

To which I replied that I would have to cancel the order as I cannot afford to spend over $20 on lunch when I can go to Wendys and get 3 patties for 7or 8 dollars. Then she said that I should just go to Wendys and get those patties and disconnected the call. I was expecting to spend more than what it would cost me at Wendys but not over 2x as much. Then the rudeness to top it off. Disappointing... I had heard such good things about their food...

The grass looks like it hasn't been mowed for quite a while, and much of the shrubbery is dead or dying. Also, there are weeds everywhere. It's disappointing to see a nice restaurant like this look so unsightly on the outside. Perhaps they should hire a company to pull up the dead shrubs, get rid of the weeds, put in new shrubbery and mulch, then maintain it with pride. That includes the porch as well. A must stop for both dinner and Southern breakfast enthusiasts…read more On my way home from Charlotte, I used Yelp to find me a classic diner to start my day off right. I choose the Crack of Dawn Diner in Concord. I am so glad I did. Crack of Dawn Diner is the real thing--a local Concord breakfast-and-lunch spot serving traditional Southern fare at reasonable prices. The menu caters to local tastes, the dining room is filled with regulars, and the atmosphere is comfortable rather than trendy. Parking is somewhat limited. The private lot surrounding the restaurant was fully used so I parked in the lot next door that had signs that said private property, but it looked like other patrons were parking there also so I took the chance. As it turns out, it was safe to park there. The entrance is very welcoming, as well as the staff. Amanda was my very efficient and nice waitress. There is great teamwork here, and Amanda was well supported by, I believe, the owner who ran my food out and talked a bit with me. The menu is fascinating. A distinctly North Carolina menu. Several things jumped out: * Breakfast special for $6.59 weekdays * Breakfast plates mostly under $12 * Grits included as a side option * Livermush available * City ham and country ham both offered * Pork chops available for breakfast I ordered the country-fried steak with white gravy (essentially chicken-fried steak), along with two sunny-side-up eggs, perfectly prepared grits, a large buttermilk biscuit, and a delicious diner coffee. The restaurant occupies a stand-alone building with a warm, "come on in and rest a spell" atmosphere. Inside, you'll find counter seating, an open kitchen, and tables throughout the dining room. I chose a seat by the window overlooking the parking area. This was a great breakfast, that was reasonably priced, in a great atmosphere, with very nice people. It stuck to both my mind and ribs all day long. After breakfast, I continued on to downtown Concord and spent some time exploring one of North Carolina's most charming revitalized downtown districts. The breakfast was the perfect start to the morning. Crack of Dawn Diner has earned a spot on my repeat list whenever my travels take me through the Charlotte-Concord area.
