So, this section of Brookfield has a most interesting history. The land was donated, or sold, by Mrs. Edith Rockefeller McCormick in 1919. The architect chosen to design this building was William Drummond, an associate of Frank Lloyd Wright, and it is very evident inside the building. It originally was for meetings and a primary school. The first classes started on September 21, 1920. It also served as a nondenominational church in the 1920's and 1930's. For over 90 years it has served as a meeting place for groups: concerts; dances; Fourth of July, Christmas, and Halloween celebrations; and family functions. Predating Hollywood, California, in 1987, they, and other representatives from communities sharing the Hollywood name, defeated an effort by the mayor of Hollywood, California to copyright the name for its exclusive use. It is located just west of Riverside-Brookfield High School. The building has a main event room with a lovely fireplace that we totally enjoyed on the wintry night we were there. The original windows are still in place and you can tell you are in a Prairie style building. Available for rental, you bring in your own food and drinks and have the option to rent the kitchen. I was surrounded by such positive, welcoming people of all ages. Throughout the night, we sang karaoke, played cards, shot pool and listened to good music. What really stood out to me was how safe, inclusive, and comfortable the environment felt. Everyone was so kind and genuine. But what truly touched my heart was how the community embraced my brother, who is special needs. There was no judgment only acceptance, laughter, and open arms. For the first time in a long time, I didn't feel like I had to be on guard, watching to make sure he was being treated with respect because everyone just welcomed. It was a relaxing night filled with connection and joy. I would absolutely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, warm, and safe space. LBP provided the space, catered the food (via their onsite cafe, Carver 47), connected us to amazing balloon and floral vendors, and provided other accoutrements (e.g., tables and chairs, table coverings, a stage, sound and tech support, package management). LBP's one-stop shop especially helpful given that our planning team resided outside of Chicago. There is so much to applaud from the experience: the warm and inviting space exuded elegance; the feast was as beautiful as it was delicious; and the LBP team's interactions with us (from planning to completion) was the epitome of grace and hospitality. They accommodated every request and did so with an exceptional level of excellence. When we asked that the menu include a vegetarian and Halal dish, they ensured guests had multiple options. When we requested assistance erecting our banner, they took on the task of assembling the entire structure, even machine washing and drying it when they noticed a stain. Compared to other spaces we considered (and have used in the past) across the city, LBP's offerings and support stood head and shoulders above and their love was palpable in their attention to details.That they have a heart-centered mission and work in support of youth and community was tasty icing on an already amazing cake. They did a great job of checking people in and telling people the best places to park in case they run out of spaces in their parking lot. Clean facility and as an attendee this is a place I would consider renting out for an event. Not sure how the management is behind the scenes and that is a big factor but cannot honestly judge that portion.

This place is anything but cranky old men complaining about the war. My first experience here was completely surprising. I came for the Friday fish fry with my father and the nugget, who was a baby at the time. During Lent, this place is PACKED with people on Friday nights. I could not believe it. While waiting for my fish to arrive, I got a glass of wine at the bar. I thought I misheard the price...nope I didn't...it was soooo cheap compared to a bar or restaurant. After I bit into a nice meaty piece of fried fish, I was hooked (buh duh cha). The fish fry continues all year long...not just during Lent. Don't like fish, no problem. They have Italian Beef sandwiches, hot dogs, and fried shrimp. The price of your meal also includes coffee, and cake for dessert. You can't go wrong. Don't forget to bring some cash for the raffles. They usually do a 50/50 raffle, and some other thing. For Valentine's Day there was a delicious pork dinner and a band. For St. Paddy's they do a corned beef dinner. High suggested!
