Many people don't know that we're happy to host your family, organiation or company's event at our space! We're open to the public on Thursday and Friday nights, as well. We even take plastic, not just cash. Tattler Post #973 is the biggest and most active Veteran Service Organization of its kind on the North side of Chicago. Tattler Post has an active Auxliary, Sons of the American Legion and Legion Riders. Hall rentals available, and neighbors and supporters are welcome anytime the "OPEN" sign is lit. As an American Legion Post, we're open to applications for membership from any honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed forces that served one day of active duty, including basic training, at any time since the start of World War 2. Burger Night is the FOURTH Friday of the month.

History

Established in 1946.

During WW2, when many of the local boys and girls went off to serve their country, the 47th Ward Servicemen's Club, composed mainly of WW1 veterans, published a small neighborhood newspaper called "The Tattler" featuring local ads, stories about the service members and gossip about the neighborhood; subscriptions and ads were sold and copies were mailed to the soldiers, sailors, and Marines around the world. When they returned as men and women, veterans, the newspaper had served its purpose and was shut down. The combined veterans of WW1 and WW2 decided to charter as a post of the American Legion. They held dances at the nearby Queen of Angels Guild Hall at $1 a ticket, and used the proceeds to buy our Headquarters, a building near the corner of Western and Montrose that occupy to this day.
