Sometimes we just like to support. Regardless. That's my attitude about it. Each time I've showed up, I have had an absurdly long wait time. It once took 20min just to get water. And that was AFTER she took my drink order, of which I ordered water and hot cocoa. Half of my food was cold and the rest was hot. Example, hot burger, cold fries ( which were freezer burnt btw) and a cold waffle and hot chicken. If it takes almost an hour to be served, surly you don't send food back. My date ordered the Reggie Jackson Special. It was two fried pork chops, eggs, potatoes or grits, and toast or biscuits. The pork chops were extremely overcooked, and weren't seasoned enough. The "homemade" biscuits were questionable. They were more like Pillsbury and over baked and hard. I ordered Chicken and Waffles. My waffle was flat as a tortilla. The fried chicken was too salty. The woman with the dreadlocks had a very rude attitude, especially toward her own kind. They also didn't give me my change--apparently they needed it more than I did. I ordered the French Toast and it was perfectly cooked, great cinnamon flavor. The Salmon Croquette was a nice, smooth texture on the inside and great crunch on the outside. The flavor was outstanding. My son ordered the Steak and Eggs. Though he said the steak was "just okay," he loved the eggs and hash browns. In perusing the menu you will just about find something for everyone. I settled on the chicken and waffles, but substituted the regular waffle for the pecan one along with a cup of coffee, and a side of grits to go. The service was quick and my pecan waffle came out with 3 huge pieces of chicken. The waffle had hints of cinnamon and nice size pieces of chopped up pecans. The chicken was not overly crusted, golden brown and perfectly cooked. Reminded me of my younger years when moms would cook the chicken. The food was good, but it was a bit pricey, but then everything seems to be. I love this old school restaurant! They are famous for their desserts and fried chicken. Street parking and cash only. The service today was lacking in friendliness for some reason but this didn't impact my slice of banana cheesecake for the hubby. It's a generous slice for $9.75 these days. There is a layer of fresh bananas whose color has turned and topped with real whipped cream. The banana flavor permeates each bite. You can definitely taste the tang of the cream cheese which doesn't bother me at all. Gotta try the banana pudding next time. I stumbled upon Lois the Pie Queen and was immediately drawn inside. The staff is welcoming and kind, the environment is homey, and the treats are out of this world. When I first came in I purchased a key lime pie for my man because they are his favorite so I always grab one when I see them available. He said it was the best he had ever had. I have since been back to get him another. When my 30th birthday was approaching, I knew I wanted to get something special, so naturally I had to get something from here. I preordered a large banana cream pudding. It was massive and only $40! I was mind blown. I came back to on the morning of my bday and they had it sitting in the case waiting for me. When I say that was one of the top 3 desserts i've had in my life, I am not exaggerating. The pudding texture was SO creamy. The wafers were delicious. The banana tasted on point for several days. The food is good, but the online pick-up options are far more limited and expensive then ordering over the phone or eating inside. However, at 10:40, this place was slammed and understaffed, meaning I couldn't even talk to the waitress, who left me hanging for a five minutes or more while she rushed to serve others. I can't blame her, but I much rather gotten the food I wanted and paid for it in cash. Instead I stepped out of that calamity and put my order in over the phone and hung out in the car until I was told it was ready. Regardless, of how I got the food, it was solid. The biscuits where fluffy and moist and the bacon was perfectly crisp. Their turkey greens rank among the best in the bay, and is the main reason why I bother.
