I have a soft spot for dives, thus Lolita's fits the bill perfectly. Located right off highway 101 in a strip of unimpressive-appearing businesses, I marched on despite my husbands protests, convinced we were in for a treat (solid 5 stars on Yelp didn't hurt!). The interior matches the exterior, but it was clean. Seating consists of both booths and tables, and we opted for the former, finding it comfortable as can be. I was staaaaaarving and, waiting in line behind an indecisive couple, mesmerized by the pictures flitting across Lolita's electronic menu. A colorful display of fruit and chile powder popped up, and I noted it as a must. Sadly, when I finally got to order they informed me that particular dish wasn't available. Sigh. My heart broke a little, but I settled for the albondigas (why is soup always so much better at restaurants?), a fish taco, and taco salad with carnitas (I swear I sound like a pig in the majority of my restaurant reviews, but I'd just completed a thirteen-mile hike, okay?! Don't judge me). Upon seating ourselves, we were immediately served warm corn tortilla chips, followed by my albondigas shortly thereafter. It was a fantastic starter, especially topped with cilantro and cabbage from the salsa bar. The taco salad arrived in a fried flour tortilla, and I mostly ate the salad itself, though could not resist munching a bit of the tortilla (delish, I just avoid those blasted carbs). The fish tacos, though, are a requirement. Accompanied by a mix of crunchy, fresh lettuce, cabbage, and carrots, along with a fat lemon wedge, the real delight is their perfectly seasoned and cooked juicy white fish (cod?), and creamy, dreamy dressing. Man. Everything was great, but if I had known what I was getting with that taco, I may have opted to just order ten of 'em. My husband had the steak fajitas, which were great, however I think that dish is pretty similar most places. The meat was appreciably tender, though, and the refried beans excellent. Their salsa bar offered generous options, and I tried every one, finding the spiciest to be my favorite. There were also pickled vegetables, the aforementioned soup toppings, and limes. Worth noting, is the inclusion of complimentary peruano beans, along with deep fried onion and jalapeños. Myriad drinks are available; including some Mexican specialties (my husband was pleased they had Coke in glass bottles), even beer and wine. Prices are fantastic, especially fajitas for $12. All employees were extremely friendly, and the short wait for food once we ordered was impressive. This is perfect for a quick break from the road (take out is also available, though I think there might have been a nominal fee).

Carne asada plate with flour tortillas

Time to support this local business! We love the deluxe burrito with green sauce and decided to also try the carne asada plate and churros today. The carne asada plate was pretty good but man who knew how much we would love the churros! I believe they have dulce de leche inside of them and yum. We usually take ours to go and they always have it ready super fast!

Hole in the wall gem. Went there on a Sunday and the place was packed with seemingly regulars and new customers alike. Food is affordable and good but the service could do better though. Waited half an hour for 2 combo plates, another 15 for a takeout order that they forgot. The place offers Mexican and American food, which is a plus. It's a place to stop by when you're passing through this town. Ordered Pork Tamale and Pork Enchilada combo plate, Chile Relleno and Pork Enchilada combo plate, Albondigas and Carne Asada burrito to go, which was a size of one swole arm. The pork was crispy, tender and well seasoned. They have a good selection of drinks too.

Best shrimp tacos I have ever had!

Best shrimp tacos I have ever had. My husband said he'd give them a Michelin Star. The very nice man at the front recommended them and I'm glad he did. Guacamole was delicious and fresh. Husband's chicken quesadilla was amazing. I love this place and you will too!

The customer service is always top notch when we go there. The food is excellent. I would highly recommend the green salsa over the red.

Decent tacos and tamale. Big portions with low price. Had to ding them for all the styrofoam to go boxes. Would be great to use compostable.
