Service and authenticity. Had to wait one hour for food for the 2 of us with plate orders. We ordered to eat there outside. We saw others with plates and chips waiting for their meals. We got nothing in the mean time. After an hour of waiting they gave us our food in a bag. We are locals and our friends recommended the place because they said it was the most authentic food. No flavor and very mediocre. I'm originally from San Diego and there you will find authentic Mexican food. Never again. If you are tourist from southern cal or New Mexico, Texas or Arizona you won't like this place. read more

The people were friendly enough. The food was not what I was expecting based upon the reviews of others. You walk up to a window and order and they give you a beeper. The food took awhile and was cold when we got it home to eat it. There is no actual indoor seating and no beer. The ambiance is lacking. I cannot recommend based on this experience. The food is delicious, but don't be in a hurry, wait times to get your food can be excessive. We visit on a regular basis and they've never been quick. Today we watched people in front of us and behind us get their food, eat it, and leave. I had to approach the staff to inquire (because while we had a buzzer and were sitting at a table no one bothered to let us know), they just responded our "order was made wrong so they're remaking it" and that "it's coming right up", so another 10 mins go by and I ask again, they once more said "it's coming right up". I told him I ordered almost an hour ago and was now ready to leave. He said he could cancel my order no problem if that's what I wanted. I told him after almost an hour of waiting I'd rather go somewhere else where we'd actually get our food, he said "that's fine, I'll just give your order to a homeless person". He confirmed my order was cancelled and the payment time stamp showed we waited 55 mins and still didn't get our food. We ordered 5 chicken tacos, and it proved to be too complicated. We had the carnitas & fish tacos with chips & salsa. Their salsas were so delicious!! Yum! The service was slow and we sat for 10 mins before we got our chips & salsa and drinks. It is obviously a popular place. The tacos were good street style tacos. The location is odd, in the parking lot next to other restaurants and stores surrounded by barriers. This is hands down the best Mexican food in Brookings- The meat in the food is well seasoned and charred for flavor. The sauces and salsas are so delicious! The burritos supreme with sauce and cheese was outstanding. One of my favorite things is that they DO NOT over load the rice in their dishes. They honestly have a great balance of beans, rice, meat and everything else. I'm very picky with Mexican food and I can honestly say this is for sure the best- Thank you! You can smell the meat from the street and it smells so good! The food is great and the prices are very reasonable. In fact, you can still buy $3 tacos here and on Saturdays they sell a beautiful bowl of pazole for $13. They don't sell alcohol, but on special occasions they are visited by a mobile bartender so that you can get your drink on while eating great Mexican street food. read more

La Playa has the worst costumer service ever. Not only that, but there service sucks! I ordered 4 tacos and they said it would be about 35 minutes. After an hour I asked what was up with my order and they told me it would be a couple of minutes. After another 20 minutes I finally got my order. Tucked away behind Hip-Nautic gifts, this place needs some signage! First time here, recommended by a friend. I ordered the carne asada plate and my wife got a carne asada burrito. It took a while for our food to come out and it wasn't busy at all. Overall, our meals were good and inexpensive. Wasn't great, just good. They don't offer homemade chips, they sell bagged store bought tortilla chips. Kind of strange for a Mexican eatery. Would go back but it wouldn't be a destination. read more

Bland Mexican Food - still looking for good 100% Authentic Mexican food. We got told that this was the best Mexican food in town, but have to disagree as of now - have one more place to try but so far this is number 3 to me. I am use to allot of flavor and our meals that we ordered were more like bland hospital food - salsa had very little flavor and not allot of heat either - almost like they forgot the seasoning. Slow service, gentleman up front taking orders had no personality at all. To say we were not impressed - stale store bought chips! There is no ambiance to speak of as it is out doors seating only and area was dirty. Took over 30 minutes and food was still served Luke warm. read more

Amazing delicious splendor to cure what ales you, Pozole only on Saturdays but definitely worth the wait. The machaca burrito is a new addition and so delicious tender flavorful beef breakfast burrito what more can you ask for. The smothered burrito supreme is definitely a must try. I have been a big fan of this place since they were in the farmers market. I am a transplant from Los Angeles, California and I love my Mexican food. It took me a while to find this place and authentic Mexican food. That was even close to what I had experienced and this place is it everything is yummy. I've tried just about everything and I recommend it all.You can't go wrong, I wish they had a restaurant where we could chill out a little bit more.
