Sunnyside Construction went above and beyond our expectations. We have had Sunnyside come back to work on our house every 3 years as we work through our home-improvement wish list. Having found a great contractor in Sunnyside, we are going to be loyal to them for as long as we are homeowners. They show up on time and got the work done according to schedule. The final bill was right in line with their estimate. We were kept advised of any issues when they came up. They clearly explained the issues and what our options were...we never felt like we were being upsold on more work. The quality of their work is very impressive. We have had them redo our flooring, completely redo our bathroom (expanded size of bathroom, moved bathroom door, tile flooring, converted a tub into a walk in shower, etc), remodel our living room (removal of a wall), replace windows, level our crawlspace, install a French drain, landscape our back yard, build a pergola, etc. All of these projects came out better than our expectations. I have to say, they were BY FAR the tidiest construction crew we have ever seen. Throughout the renovation project, they kept the house as clean as possible. David has a knack for detail. During our walkthrough before construstion, he was able to visualize what would work down to the inch. I was concerned we wouldn't have enough room to place the fridge where we wanted it. Not to worry- his experience came through and everything was spot on. Their team does not let small issues go unresolved. Even when it wasn't assigned to him. He found rusty pipes while working on the electric. He brought it to our attention and took care of it without question. I can only imagine how big the repair bill would eventually be if he did catch it. I've attached the before (grey floor) and after (blond floor) to show off his team's talent. His team: 1. Knocked out a load-bearing wall and added beam to open up the living room into the kitchen/dining. 2. Redid the floors. 3. Redid the bathroom (expanded bathroom by incorporating closet from second bedroom, created walk-in shower, added dual vanity, tiled floors) 4. Replaced windows in master bed and bathroom 5. They were at our home for about a month, so we really got to know them, and they are genuinely kind, hardworking, good people. Kyle takes an incredible amount of pride in his work. He doesn't cut corners, and you can tell that doing the job right truly matters to him. He communicated with us throughout the entire project, kept us informed, and was always willing to talk through questions or decisions along the way. It is increasingly rare to find someone who cares this much about the quality of their work and about treating their customers fairly. One of the best examples of Kyle's pride in his work was the awning over the deck. Our original plan called for a pre-made pergola, and after Kyle and Anthony had already assembled most of it, it became clear that the scale just wasn't right for our home. Rather than simply finishing it because that was the original plan, they took it back apart, returned it to the store for us at no additional cost, and Kyle built us a custom awning instead. The result is so much better and looks like it actually belongs with our home. That willingness to redo something rather than settle for something that wasn't quite right says a lot about the way Kyle approaches his work. I also have to mention the conditions these guys worked in. Our deck is south-facing, and they were here through some incredibly hot August weather, working in direct sun for much of the day. There were times I would step outside to talk to them and could barely stand being out there for a few minutes, yet Kyle and Anthony were out there working in it day after day. They just kept going and never complained. Their work ethic was incredible. There were a few areas of rot discovered in the existing deck structure that couldn't have been known about beforehand. Kyle showed us what needed to be replaced, took care of it properly, and the additional cost was extremely reasonable. At no point did we ever feel like we were being nickel-and-dimed or taken advantage of. Kyle also went far beyond the scope of our deck project. I asked if he would be willing to install a new storm door if I purchased one. Not only did he agree, he picked it up from Home Depot for us after I ordered it. The installation turned into a much bigger, more time-consuming job than expected, and he still charged us an incredibly reasonable amount for his time. That experience really summed up the kind of person and contractor he is. Kyle and Anthony stayed committed to our project until it was finished, worked incredibly hard, and treated our home and property with respect. When they were done, everything was cleaned up so thoroughly that, other than our gorgeous new deck, you would never know they'd been here working for a month. The deck itself is stunning. The craftsmanship is beautiful, everything was done with care, and they created exactly what we asked for. Finding contractors who are skilled is one thing. Finding people who are skilled, honest, fair, hardworking, communicative, and genuinely care about the work they put their name on is something else entirely. Kyle and Anthony are those people, and we would recommend them without hesitation.

Five years ago we had carpet installed and were left with an annoying gap between the carpet and the baseboard. It drove me crazy! Carl not only handled the installation beautifully, but he also made sure the new padding was thick enough to eliminate that gap entirely. A problem that bothered me for five years - gone in one day thanks to Carl. Fast, professional, detail-oriented, and genuinely thoughtful. We couldn't recommend him more!

We will not be working with Better Call Carl again. Last November, we hired him to perform a…read more"bathroom refresh". Hooked us in with a great price and great initial communication. On the first day on the renovation, we went through all the details of changes we wanted to make with his team. Somehow, these details never came to fruition. They did a great job with the drywall, painting, and tub installation - however, their tile work in the shower is subpar (the tiles were placed crooked and we had to go in to regrout ourselves). We previously had plumbing work done, so the cabinetry underneath the vanity had to be replaced. Better Call Carl figured the best way to do this was to just patchwork plywood (we went back ourselves to fix). He also didn't see the need for continuous baseboards (see photo). The biggest problem we have is with the floors - we also had terrazzo floor tiles placed and confirmed with the team prior to starting that there were enough tiles to complete the project. The floor is not up to industry standard nor ADA requirements. The grout lines are all different sizes and the actual tiles are not level, resulting in a trip hazard. There are also tiles that have been chipped both during and after installation. We reached out to Better Call Carl after work was complete to see if he could replace the floor - he was reluctant to come back, but he did end up replacing two tiles (out of 21). Even after the second round, the floor is a little more level, but nowhere near the standard or expectation. There are still chipped tiles, uneven grout lines, and tiles that are not level. We will be buying new tiles and having the floor redone, so we asked for a partial refund (for just the work on the floor), which was denied. We then tried to see if there was any other resolution we could agree on since Better Call Carl claims he has a one-year warranty. He refused to uphold his warranty. We'll be going with another professional from here on and would not recommend Better Call Carl to anyone.
