Eduardo does NOT: * Tell the truth * Work well with other contractors, even those who recommended him. * Provide accurate and reliable quotes, estimates with itemization. * Keep his word. Eduardo DOES: * Talk a good line * Argue * Cut corners to save a buck for himself * Whine * Want a good review on google. We hired Eduardo to repair roof and ceiling. Quote included tarping roof to prevent leaks. Roof leaked not once but three times, damaging plaster ceiling and wood trim. He showed no concern for two over 70-year-olds on roof in the dark and rain tarping roof with our own tarp, or to the damage to our house, plaster ceiling and floors and trim. I thought it was small so I proceeded to put a large bucket underneath and left for a couple of hours. When I returned the bucket had overfilled and there was water on my kitchen floor!! I turned off the water and that helped a bit but it was still leaking. I called around and Eddie was able to come the same day because he just so happened to be in the area. He provided a free in-person estimate which seemed very fair. Especially given the fact that it was an emergency. The entire hot water valve needed to be replaced because it was so old. He immediately got to work and took a trip to Home Depot to grab the parts needed. We will not be working with Better Call Carl again. Last November, we hired him to perform a…read more"bathroom refresh". Hooked us in with a great price and great initial communication. On the first day on the renovation, we went through all the details of changes we wanted to make with his team. Somehow, these details never came to fruition. They did a great job with the drywall, painting, and tub installation - however, their tile work in the shower is subpar (the tiles were placed crooked and we had to go in to regrout ourselves). We previously had plumbing work done, so the cabinetry underneath the vanity had to be replaced. Better Call Carl figured the best way to do this was to just patchwork plywood (we went back ourselves to fix). He also didn't see the need for continuous baseboards (see photo). The biggest problem we have is with the floors - we also had terrazzo floor tiles placed and confirmed with the team prior to starting that there were enough tiles to complete the project. The floor is not up to industry standard nor ADA requirements. The grout lines are all different sizes and the actual tiles are not level, resulting in a trip hazard. There are also tiles that have been chipped both during and after installation. We reached out to Better Call Carl after work was complete to see if he could replace the floor - he was reluctant to come back, but he did end up replacing two tiles (out of 21). Even after the second round, the floor is a little more level, but nowhere near the standard or expectation. There are still chipped tiles, uneven grout lines, and tiles that are not level. We will be buying new tiles and having the floor redone, so we asked for a partial refund (for just the work on the floor), which was denied. We then tried to see if there was any other resolution we could agree on since Better Call Carl claims he has a one-year warranty. He refused to uphold his warranty. We'll be going with another professional from here on and would not recommend Better Call Carl to anyone.

He asked if I wanted him to look further and I said "yes" There ended up being a catastrophic amount of damage from an incorrectly installed roof that I got last summer which had resulted in a majority of the master bathroom having extensive water damage. Mike agreed to help me with getting everything fixed, essentially kick-starting his solo efforts as a general contractor and got his appropriate licensing and bonding to work as such in an individual capacity. He performed emergency coverage tasks on the roof during extreme weather to attenuate ongoing damage and ended up needing to gut and replace the entire master bathroom. Mike organized and subcontracted to experts for each specialized task including plumbing (all of the old plumbing in the walls was done incorrectly and would not last longterm) and large-scale tiling (Mike's father is a master tiler and it absolutely shows in the amazing work), always keeping me aware of any changes to the ongoing bill. While the task did end up being more than the initial grout cleaning, the full rebuild of my master bathroom was a significantly better value than other quotes I heard. The quality is masterwork and my wife loves it, and isn't THAT what really matters? It took several months to complete the job, due to always finding something else that the previous builders had done wrong or not at all; but now I have a master bathroom that I will not ever need to worry about.
