We were warmly welcomed when we walked in and asked if we needed helped finding anything. The store was spotless and everything was neatly organized. We were peaking around at first and stumbled upon Bells Light Hearted Ale. It's a low cal IPA, light, only a little hoppy and a beer you can drink all day. We really like this one! I was also searching for a specific chocolate stout and could not find it anywhere. It comes in a pint and I asked one if the associates to help. His name was Kevin and it was actually his first day! He searched all the isles for it and event went out of his way to look in the back stock and on the computer in their inventory. They were out of it but he asked for my contact info to let me know when it was back in stock. Completely over exceeded my request. The prices here were fair and again, the selections were more unique than a typical liquor store. Cool spot!

It works like this: They have about 100 wines set up to taste in a semi-circle around the store. A woman at the door checked our IDs, took our $5, and gave us a list of wines at each station. Everything being tasted was on sale for the day -- a minimum of 5% off with bigger discounts for larger quantities, up to 24% off. And then we were handed our "Wine Thing" wine glass (not to keep, alas) and a small bag of pretzels and headed in. This is not a huge store, so it was pretty crowded. But the people pouring the wines were as friendly and helpful as they could be, given the circumstances. And everyone was nice enough about letting people by, lubed up with good wine. Still, we had to emerge from the crowd every so often to get a little fresh air. But besides simply having more space for this event -- or maybe doing timed tickets or something? -- it's a GREAT way to taste a ton of wines from knowledgeable people and find a new favorite or two. :)

The guys who work there are really nice and always seem happy to see me. For being just the neighborhood liquor store and not something like a Binny's Warehouse, they have a pretty good selection and fairly competitive prices. I'm always happy when I leave there, and of the probably 20 times I've been in there, I think every single time I've been greeted with a smile. That goes a long way with me, and it makes me happy to come back. Because of the friendly service and the convenience, we're happy to support this neighborhood store.

It's not enormous, and it's sort of spread out over about six different shelves in the back, but I appreciate that they're going for a bit smaller and less known breweries here. Including the Lombard (!!) brewery we just discovered, Flesk! Two big things to note: Most of their smaller bottles are already separated into eaches, so you can mix and match to your heart's content. They are priced separately as well, but if you create your own six-pack, you get 15% off the total. AND another 50c off if you bring your own cardboard carrier in. The other thing worth noting: At least on the bombers we were looking at, many of the prices were either the same or lower than that Big Box Liquor Store With Two Locations Nearby. So after our visit here, I happily walked out with a bottle of limited release Backwoods Monster from Big Muddy Brewing, for $2 less than it was at the BBLSWTLN.
