This was (and will be again) my go to place for liquor. Great local owners and knowledgeable staff. We won 2 under 10,00 wine tasting parties on the advice of the clerks. Today however I walked in to buy some beer and neither the customer nor the woman behind the counter were wearing masks. The wine and booze selection here looked decent, but what I was really interested in was their craft beer selection. And 20 West delivers. It's not enormous, and it's sort of spread out over about six different shelves in the back, but I appreciate that they're going for a bit smaller and less known breweries here. Including the Lombard (!!) brewery we just discovered, Flesk! Two big things to note: Most of their smaller bottles are already separated into eaches, so you can mix and match to your heart's content. They are priced separately as well, but if you create your own six-pack, you get 15% off the total. AND another 50c off if you bring your own cardboard carrier in. The other thing worth noting: At least on the bombers we were looking at, many of the prices were either the same or lower than that Big Box Liquor Store With Two Locations Nearby. So after our visit here, I happily walked out with a bottle of limited release Backwoods Monster from Big Muddy Brewing, for $2 less than it was at the BBLSWTLN. read more

I stopped in 20 West on my way home from work one day and was pleasantly surprised. I'm somewhat of a bourbon enthusiast and was impressed with their selection of whiskeys. They carry a lot of bottles that you won't find at Binny's (I grabbed Weller and Blanton's that day). The prices are reasonable and each time I've gone in, the staff has met me with pleasant conversation each time. I highly recommend 20 West to anyone looking for a great local liquor store. It is always best to support a local business and this is one I can definitely get behind. Extra perk: they even had a bottle of Weller Special Reserve! Love this little place! There's a liquor store almost literally across the street from my apartment near Main and Willow in Lombard but I will always walk the extra 4-5 blocks to hit up 20 West - the selection, prices and service are all far superior. They are open fairly late which is a big plus, especially when it sometimes seems as if the rest of downtown Lombard closes up shop around 7:30. They have an amazing selection of small, local, independent brands (think 5 Rabbit Cerveceria, Flesk Brewing) along the usual name brand stuff as well as a small fridge of Midwestern cheeses (!!) and other good eats. Patty is an absolute doll and has never steered me wrong with her recommendations and they offer a nice little setup on Friday nights where you can taste a variety of different brews along with some tasty snacks. read more

20 West really has a great selection of wine, liquor, and a nice craft beer selection. It's definitely not a huge "chain" store and they are more than happy to order anything that you would want. I love the fact that you can mix/match to create your own six pack so that you can try various types, it's perfect for the old man and I because we are almost complete opposites when it comes to beer. Their prices are on target with the area. It's also a huge plus that they are literally a block away from our condo. The staff is always very friendly and can definitely steer you in the right direction if you give them a general flavor profile that you're looking for. They also have tastings at various times (Fridays & Sunday) and support other local businesses. I think it's fantastic that they carry Flesk (a Lombard brewery!) and usually have a nice-and regular- selection of 3 Floyds. So if you're in the downtown area it's definitely a good place to check out. read more

They don't have a large selection of beers, but what they do have is pretty awesome. I've visited here a few times and the last time I was in, Jeff knew a lot more about beer than my sister and I did and we know quite a bit. He even offered some suggestions and told us about a lot of special edition beers and limited releases that not only they would be getting in, but where we might be able to find them. Typically that's not good for business, but I appreciate his honesty and am not more inclined to return to in the future. Jeff and Mike do and outstanding job and are very on top beer happenings. I am a recent convert to beer. And with this recent conversion has come an overwhelming urge to collect interesting things and try new beers. Go figure. This place is pretty fantastic. They have a pretty fair number of craft beers, including some that are harder to find in our area in general. I was very happy to uncover a bottle of Zombie Killer from B Nektar along with more Three Floyds than I have seen in the area in recent months. I was happy to put together my own six pack, too, as my pals and I like to partake in tastings and this makes it a lot easier than getting stuck with a whole 4 or 6 pack of something that you might not like. They have wine and other stuff, too, and pretty decent selections of those, as well. We were traveling through town and stopped here to find a specific Japanese whiskey. Looking around, 20 West had a really nice selection but not what I needed. The salesperson was so nice and super helpful. She gave us at the name of another store we could try that might be carrying the Japanese whiskey. When I moved to my new place, I was pretty devastated that there was not a Binny's by me. Luckily for me, I found something better. It has a HUGE selection of craft beer and Mike is very helpful in helping you find what you're looking for. The only way this place would be better is if it replicated Go Tavern downtown and added a bar because downtown Lombard is in desperate need for a craft beer bar. read more

I've been doling out a lot of fives lately, but I like to think that's because I'm picky about where I go anymore. 20 West has been on my list to stop and check out for a long time, as I've driven past it on my way through Lombard for months now. I finally stopped in for a few minutes this past Sunday, and had a great experience. They were very nice, and shared with me that they do wine and beer tastings every Friday. The selection was really pretty impressive, given that this place is a bit on the small side. Or it seems small, at least, given that I do most of my craft beer buying at Binny's. They had a nice stockpile of some hard to find stuff, and the pricing is competitive. I was also happy to see a humidor, so when it finally warms up (if it ever does), I'll have to check out their stogies, too. read more

They have a decent selection of wine and other liquor store type items, and they did a renovation in 2007 that really cleaned the place up. It's not the best selection around, so I'd give them three stars. However, the service is super-friendly, especially the guy with the beard, who is not the owner and is not Dutch. So they get four stars. That's four stars for the great service, not four stars for not being Dutch. I have no problem with the Dutch. read more

When you walk into Dutch Liquors you enter a place that mixes old time neighborhood with a clean, comfortable feel and urban sophistication. They have wine and beer tastings on Friday nights complete with nibbles and leather captains chairs. The man who is usually behind the register is unusually professional, helpful and upbeat without being annoying. Four years ago it was your run of the mill beat up old institution, but recent renovations make it a real gem. read more

I have always had a great experience shopping at this neighborhood local store. Visal has done a fabulous job promoting local beer labels as well as supplying a good selection of wine and sprits. His employees are always courteous and helpful. Lombard is lucky to have this business down town. read more
