Came ISO stouts and porters. I left with Founder's Breakfast Stout, Kentucky Burbon Barrel Ale (!!! YUM!), and also a Nitro from Left Hand Brewing Co (I'm a fan of their milk stouts). There were a few available in each selection, including some refrigerated. I did notice some on the shelf had already expired back in June or July, so there's that. Service was friendly. Famous Liquor used to be my go-to liquor store. However, it's the things I really liked about this store that have steadily declined. For instance, the back area which used to have a nice selection of alcohol gifts, t-shirts, and novelties is mostly empty shelves and wasted space. In the past I never had a problem finding alcoholic drinks in stock. I understand Mike's and Parrot's Bay are not the cool drink any more, but I still like them. What they offer with Mike's is the same inventory and same price as the grocery store. The six pack of Parrot's Bay is non-existent. The large bottle of Parrot's Bay (coconut - the original) has been out of stock for most of the Summer. I can't really speak for their wine selection and deli area since I haven't purchased any wine and cheese in a long time. So if you're going for wine, you might be okay. The reason I still give this 3 stars is because they have good customer service and I think the economy has probably had a negative impact on their business. read more

I've always liked this place, but, unfortunately, local mask requirements are ignored. Was just here on a Sunday morning, and of 3 people in the store, only one was masked, the cashier. The stock person had his mask under his chin (despite my close proximity), and the one other customer was completely unmasked. read more

Let me tell you what I think, that's the reason we are all here right?? Famous is going down like Chinatown. I almost gave them 2 stars but look forward to an updated downgrade real soon! I use to love Famous, good wine guys and cold beer selection. Lots of well priced bottles organized with descriptions. Good stuff! It was a busy well organized machine. Came here for a beer tasting. I'd say its in between a small liquor store & a Binny's. For prices, just by looking at a couple of their items, they seemed to be cheaper than Binny's by a good couple of dollars. They also get points for selling bottles from 6-packs individually & they have a good selection of those too (Bells, FFF, Founders, Sierra Nevada, etc) There were also a number of occasions where if there was something I couldn't find at Binny's, they had it here. I find myself wisher I had this place closer to me since it seems like the prices here aren't high compared to Binny's, in general, where prices have slowly climbed up. read more

This place has a great selection! On Saturdays they have wine tasting and they are very informative. Every time I have stopped in, the staff has been helpful and answered any questions. Sometimes the person at the check-out counter seems to be having a bad day, but that does not effect the overall awesomeness of the business. It is a great place for wine or liquor. Moving from Fort Collins, one of the first things I did was find the closest liquor stores and check them out. No... I'm not an alcoholic, just a Coloradoan. I was a little skeptical when I drove to Famous. Looked kind of sketchy from the outside and not really in a nice-looking strip mall and I thought all I was going to find inside were 40s. BUT... I was pleasantly surprised! The beer coolers had tons to choose from and then I started up a conversation with an employee who happened to be the owner. We talked for a few minutes about beer and he showed me where his Colorado beers were. I was also psyched to hear that they do tastings every Friday. It was nice to finally meet an agreeable person in the area AND a good liquor store nearby. Plus, they're prices are way lower than Binny's, which was the other close liquor store. I can speak to the beer selection only, as I'm not a huge wine drinker. And all I can say is quality! As an avid craft beer drinker, I love the local support Famous Liquors gives. They carry local breweries, as well nationally distributed brews that runs the gamut of styles and origins. Their Belgian selection is also phenomenal and rivals some of the best in Chicago. Their singles wall is one of my favorite places to try new beer anywhere. No need to buy a six-pack of something I'm not going to be a fan of. Often, singles are overpriced, but not here. Singles vary in price, starting around $1.49 and up. For those looking for a non-traditional beer, Famous is a great place to start and keep discovering. read more

This is hands-down my favorite Liquor store to visit. Nothing fancy, but they have a HUGE selection of wines, liqueurs and beers...including regular products found anywhere, a good selection of Seasonal and Hard to Find products... In fact, if you cannot find it...and ask...more times then not, they will order it for you. They have reasonable prices and some great deals weekly...I recommend signing up for their email list...they send out a weekly ad. They have a good selection of gourmet foods...cheese, marinades, cobbler and sausages. They also have cooking classes that pair up wines with your foods. On the weekends, they have special events...tastings (beer, wine, liquors) ...varying upon the event they are hosting that weekend. Halloween they have a huge costume/tasting event...Christmas they offer samples of wines and seasonal beers and New Years they have samples of campaignes... I recommend signing up for their free reward card. This works similar to a preferred card at Jewels or Dominicks...and they offer some great deals weekly for card holders... But unlike their reward cards, this is also good for earning points on your purchases...I believe for each $200.00 you spend...you receive a coupon for $5-10.00 off your next purchase... Or you can save your reward points to use for some of the great merchandise you can "purchase" when you earn enough points...things like nice glass steins, shirts/hats, even wine refrigerators. The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable... And I love their beer selection...you can either buy 6 packs...or they have a huge selection of different beers that you can purchase individually to taste test first. But they are the only place I have found in this area that carries Delium, Tripple Karmelett, Reapers Ale and some great german and European beers... The only complaint I have with this place is that they close early...but they are a great place to shop ;D Highly recommended. read more

I have to agree with Erika. Famous WAS a great wine store. Their Saturday tastings were fun and informative. Jeff was a tremendous asset to Famous. They have steadily gone down-hill since he left. He's know at Malloy's in Glen Ellyn. I will not be surprised if they close shop soon. Yes, they have a pretty good craft beer selection...and they are close to home. But the wine selection is not much better than a grocery store. Not much innovation. AND they no longer have wine tastings. Lot of empty shelves. Their wines are illogically displayed. Save yourself the aggravation and either go to Malloy's or Sal's. For the record, the customer service from Jeff/Diane at Malloy's far, far exceeds Tom's customer service at Sal's. read more

To all wine lovers: I have never posted a positive or negative review in my life. But, I think it's worth sharing that Famous Liquors is worth a look to anyone who hasn't been in a while. There's a good chance they be pleasantly surprised. I stopped in on Saturday and stumbled on the tail end of a tasting of 100 or so different wines. Definitely not the same store they were a year or two ago (sparce w/ wine cases sitting on the floor). Went in today to buy a 6 pack of hopslam which just arrived. I was asked if I reserved any...I said no and they told me it was all spoken for. Heard them talking about not wanting to open the cases they had in the back. Funny thing....I then went to Foremost in Lombard and Sal's in Villa Park. Guess what? After exhausting supplies at nearby liquor stores, I decide to give this place a try. I have been eyeballing it while driving from work for a few months and finally was spontaneous enough to go in. Compared to my other two favorites, the parking lot is a mansion. There's room, it's not confusing or riddled with giant gaping holes, I was already sold. I went in and realized how BIG this place was! And all filled with booze! It's huge! This amount of room allows them to have quite the craft beer selection - and at a decent price. Their wine selection, while is small in comparison, was big in its own right and had a nice amount of chilled wines as well. No matter what you're looking for, this place is worth a try - they probably have that, plus three things you didn't know you needed. read more

Wow, this was the first liquor supermarket I have been to. My wife and I spent a lot of time going through the isles. I mean liquor whipped cream and pre-made jello shots are pretty dang cool, although I am not sure how the taste would be. This store has been at this location for as long as I can remember. I think I bought my first bottle of vodka here when I turned 21 many years ago. That said, it has changed ownership a few times over the years and the recent one is for the better. Cleaner store, updated inventory and a great staff making it easy to find anything. Various events we have attended from a beer tasting in October to a few wine tastings in winter even making it easy to open the wallet and drop some cash here. They even had a chef who does their catering. Have a large purchase, it looks like they will deliver right to you. Their prices are competitive but since it is a local place, I would rather drop my dollars here than drive a few miles to save a dollar or worse battle the costco crowd. The store is very very bad! The price is high and the store is dishonest tradesmen! I came to forest park location! The store show me buy 12 get 10 % off! I took one whisky to counter checking how many bottles in the store, they check it on computer 52 bottles in store right now! I asked them I taking all, and then the manager came taking care me! He called his boss get the lower case price, I heard a little bit about they were talking about don't sell me more, the manager told me only 10 bottles in store right now after the call! I asked him why don't sell me a case, he don't want talk with me! Finally I said buy 10 bottles, he brought me 10 bottles and I saw one more on locker. At the end, I only bought 11 bottles, I didn't get case price and 10% off! the store told customer buy more get cheaper, they only sell more to you but don't want you getting cheaper! Famous is a decent place for alcohol. I would rather have a Binny's closer, but Famous is find. They have a very limited selection of everything except beer. They have quite a variety of beers. The scotch selection is limited to the major brands and some off brands. Wines? Ehh. Their prices are a little higher as well. read more

Not just a huge variety of craft beer but a great selection of singles, so that I can try something new without committing to a 4/6 pack. The craft beer selection is getting to be one of the most enjoyable to shop. Newly remodeled, doubled (at least) cooler space. Good deals for those looking for deals. Difficult to find brews that only someone with a passion for beer could offer. Not at all what it used to be. The place is dirty and the stock is very limited. They used to have an excellent wine selection with knowledgable advice available. They no longer have a cheese and deli selection. I would not recommend it any more. Most have changed owners. read more
