After all the raving about this place I was expecting great things to be honest.
We were taken to our table by a very friendly waiter who pulled the chair out for me, gave us the menus and informed us who our waitress was - good start.
So, we ordered our drinks and then the waitress (very friendly and polite) came back with the selection board of cuts of meat for us to chose what we wanted.
We had already made up our mind so we asked for the Chateaubriand for us to share and cooked medium.
We were given some dough bread and a dish of chimichurri to dip it in. To be honest the chimichurri is not my thing so I left the bread. The boyff are it all. Although I don't know what this fad is with dough bread as I don't see the appeal of eating something that basically tastes stale.
Anyway........
We were given our plates which were warm and then waiting a few minutes for our steak to turn up. It looked okay as it was handed to us, but as I took a piece I realised it was medium rare and not medium, so basically the middle part was still moo'ing.
I waited, and waited and waited and waited to ask them just to cook it for two minutes longer just to bring it up to the medium that I asked for.
Eventually we caught our waitress - the poor woman looked rushed off her feet - and asked her to ask the chef just to cook it a couple of minutes, which she agreed to immediately and was really lovely about it. However by this time my boyff had finished his entire dinner and I had munched my way through my chips. The chips were lovely though.
I got my steak back sometime later and it was now medium well done, but that's fine so I ate it.
Whilst we were waiting to get my steak back we ordered some more drinks and they were wrong, but we drank them anyway.
The toilets were just not what I thought they would be. They needed a blinking good mop and clean out. The toilet paper was that crappy really thin stuff and decor wasn't all that at all, considering the type of place this is professing to be.
They had a comment on the salt and pepper mills to "like Facebook" and then you'll get a free complimentary gift. My boyff decided he would do this and - much to my horror - when he asked for this gift we were left standing at the front door like a pair of prats for ages, in the end as my cheeks were burning red we left the restaurant without the gift.
The table that we were sat at was so close to the table next to us that I could see the make of the ladies watch, it was a bit awkward as you could hear everything each other were saying. On the other side it was where the waiters walk back and forth so I felt a bit stuck out and not very relaxed. The table was tiny too.
So, a £55 steak that was undercooked and took ages to rectify, unimpressive toilets, not amazing.
The steak was a good cut, and the waitress was brilliant to her credit. But, it's an average steak place to be fair and not this off the scale restaurant people have said.
It's not that I would refuse to go back, but I certainly won't be making an effort to. I would take a Gaucho over this place any day of the week. read more
