I had a craving for one of those bendy hot dogs so we stopped after a visit to the local farmer's market. As ever, the memory of the bendy dog (which I have about once a year) was better than the reality, but I still enjoyed it. The food came out quickly and it was nice and hot. Service wasn't overly friendly but it was prompt and courteous, which is perfectly acceptable! Our meal for two was a bit expensive though at around £18, especially considering it's a McDonald's-level quality but with waiter service. Overall, it was fine, and we're probably all set on the Wimpy front now until 2016!

We were then able to help ourselves to the freshly prepared vegetables. The veg were all 'real' no tinned or frozen (except the peas) and lashings of delicious gravy. In addition to the food were lovely sauces that you are free to add to your plate. You can revisit the vegetables as many times as you want. Simply fantastic for the money. Some of the tables are better than others. Drinks are a bit pricey, and very busy, but well worth a visit.

I had a brisket pie that was essentially upscale Shepherds Pie, which is my favorite thing. The brisket was House-smoked and really great, and they used turnips along with potatoes for the mash. The veggies were clearly farm local and fresh...not a canned veggie in sight!! I was a little disappointed in the tap list. They took up several handles with marginal beers from outside the U.K., and I had hoped for more local flair. That said, they did have TWO locals on draft, and both were excellent...I just wish there had been more. All in all, I'll certainly be back the next time in near Heathrow and want upscale pub food.

Triple chicken was a bit dry, pasta... erm.. okay, free unlimited salad however is kinda good - I was full even before the main arrived. This place gets busy, so expect to wait 30-45 minutes for a table on a Saturday night (who cares though, it's a pub!). They stop serving at 2200 hrs, and the salad bar disappears soon after that.

After all, it won one of the Great British Pub Awards in September 2023. We arrived late one afternoon after the kitchen was closed but it was no trouble for them to provide fresh beef sandwiches immediately plus the beers are great ales so would not hesitate to recommend this friendly traditional pub which we will visit again this week for a Proper Job Cornish ale and proper Pub grub under the old grapevine and surrounded by colourful flower dipslays a must see this summer when I will revisit the beautiful Breakspears Cemetary.
