Lonche mixto and gordita de asado rojo

Como me encanta mucho este lugar! Súper limpio y los dueños y trabajadores de aquí son súper amable. La comida está súper rica a mi me encanta venir por el lonche mixto y las gorditas de asado rojo.

Everything is so delicious! We had menudo, lonches to go, & tamales and it was all tasty! Would recommend

Fabulous fresh bread, avocado, pork, queso fresco, all the toppings.

Start with fresh bread baked daily. Pick your sandwich fillings and toppings. Get a big delicious sandwich. They have aguas frescas, Jarritos, Mexican Coca-Cola, orange Fanta, juices, and more... And fruit ice pops!

I also got the taco flight, while my husband ordered the quesabirria tacos....everything was fantastic. We started with the guacamole, which was made table side right in front of us, and it was hands down the BEST guacamole I've ever had! My daughter loved the salsa, and the dessert flight was the perfect sweet ending to an amazing meal. The service was outstanding, the atmosphere was incredible, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. I will definitely be back! This is officially my new favorite Mexican restaurant in Kansas City and, in my opinion, the best Mexican food in town.

There was a wait of about 20 min-- not bad. I was excited that the food would be fresh! The music was quite loud, but I suppose that's to be expected of any place on a weekend night. When we sat down, we were given chips and salsa. When we asked for hot salsa, it was an extra charge. Even though most Mexican places provide a spicy version at no charge, we went ahead and decided to try it. I wouldn't recommend it. The flavor was almost bitter, and it didn't seem fresh. I ordered the quesadilla with shredded chicken, and it arrived sopping wet. The tortilla on the bottom was soggy, and I ended up having to heat it with a fork and knife. There was barely any cheese. The side of beans lacked in flavor. The only highlight of the dinner was their queso. However, at $8 for their smallest portion, I felt like it would have been easier to just buy Gordo's queso from the store and eat it at home. To top it off, I felt like the restaurant was dirty. If you look closely at the chairs, walls near the tables, under the tables, and in corners, it feels like the surfaces haven't been cleaned properly. If I were to recommend some place else in the area that's comparable in terms of type of food and ambiance, I'd recommend Palacio Maya in Independence (not the one in the Northland).

This visit, I ordered the Charolazo, and it was loaded with fresh shrimp, ceviche, lime, and bold flavors that kept me going back for another bite. The seafood was fresh, well-seasoned, and exactly what I was craving. The service was friendly, our food came out quickly, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The menu is definitely huge, with everything from seafood specialties to meat and chicken platters, plus some seriously good micheladas and other drinks. Keep in mind, we ordered several other items, but everything was so good we completely forgot to take pictures before digging in....always a good sign for sure! Don't let the drive stop you, it's absolutely worth the trip. We'll definitely be back soon.

I usually order enchiladas rancheros, chilis relleño, asada tacos or tacos vampiro, or the nachos fajita steak, and they're consistently delicious. This place is a bit pricier than other local Mexican places, but the quality and the service and the generous portions make it a good value. Do be advised that parking is limited. However, if stairs are not an issue, you can park at the office building on the hill behind the restaurant, and use the parking lot staircase to descend to the restaurant.

The Atmosphere - There is a some personality here! This location has some Southwestern motifs and…read moreit looks like a Mexican restaurant (at least one in the Midwest) is supposed to look like. Inside it is very functional yet still has padded booths, a nicely tiled bar with lots of light effects and a more comfortable atmosphere to dine in. This place does a lot to exhibit that they want customers to come in and dine and stay for a few drinks. Only downside... It was freezing! The two tables near me continually talked about how cold it was and I didn't even take off my sport coat to eat because it was cold inside. Now to be fair it is spring as I write this and no one has their settings for A/C or Heat set correctly yet. But, for now... 3 stars The Staff - I didn't see much staff, but, it was lunchtime so maybe there weren't that many working yet. The gal that showed me to my table was very nice. And the one who took my order was quick and efficient but that was the only time I saw her. A cook from the kitchen brought me the hot plate of food. And the gal that seated me is the one that checked to see if I needed anything else and brought me the check. Polite and Nice... not necessarily friendly. 3 Stars The Food - I ordered one of the lunch plates. The burrito and a taco with refried beans. Both the burrito and the taco were ground beef. Their flavor was good. I felt that the meal lacked a little pizzazz but was generally tasty. Chips and salsa were also included and while both were good... they were just good. Solid 4 stars for the food. Overall - This place was fine for lunch. I will try to see if I can have dinner here some time to get a more comprehensive feel of the place. For now I think they are going to sit at 3 Stars. Nothing wrong with this place. But, no story or anything drastically outstanding and memorable.

The decor is a total throwback to Nickelodeon's show Guts from the 90s. Even if it isn't intentional, I retro-loved it. The salsa is smoky and a little spicy and pairs perfectly with their thin crispy chips. I've been to MANY Mexican restaurants in my lifetime, and this is probably the best salsa of this style I've ever had. For my entree, I tried something I've never even heard of. Carne en su Jugo is steak with beans in tomatillo based soup. Honestly I was shocked. It was delicious, spicy, full of flavor and so simple but extremely well done. With this chilly weather, it warmed me up in the best of ways. I could only finish half of it and I am so excited to finish it for lunch tomorrow. Unfortunately, the tortillas are not made in house. I would love to see more restaurants doing this. Our waitress was attentive and kind, bringing beverages and checking on us with appropriate frequency. We will be back, and frequently!
