Staying at Argosy Casino with kids and there are really no restaurants around there so we found this place! Food and service was really good! The wait staff were very friendly and helpful. Our glasses were never empty. I really liked the inside decor as well. The light figured was pretty cool. It could be a little cleaner but overall it was a great experience. Definitely recommend. Cheese dip had a nice spice flavor. It was not thick but also not too runny. The chips were very good, thin and refreshing. It did seem like a small bowl but it was deep so there was a decent amount. Went here for the first time and really enjoyed our time here. Didn't know what to eat and we saw this in the area and wanted to see what it was all about. Lucky for us it was Taco Tuesday and they had some deals. Ordered some street and soft tacos. The complimentary chips and salsa was a nice touch too. Out of town looking for a place to eat and was recommended here. Did not disappoint. Came on a Tuesday where they have a special for tacos 1.99 and ended up getting chicken and carne asada with an additional shrimp soup. Appetizer was salsa and chips. Shrimp soup was fantastic. Had rice, shrimp, onions and cilantro. Comes with warm tortillas and a wedge of lime. Add the lime! It adds so much flavour to the soup. Service was helpful with what they have tried and they check on you pretty frequently to make sure everything is alright. Restaurant vibe was great, good flow of customers coming in and out and I now know why. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. read more

Dined at Palace Maya last night for the first time and was really impressed. The food was really good; I had the Fried Tacos and they were delicious. Fresh guacamole, really complimented them nicely. My wife had the Pork Chimichanga and it looked amazing. She said the meal was fantastic. Our waiter was prompt and thorough, bringing drinks quickly and our meal was out very fast. I stumbled upon this place, not wanting to choose one of the restaurants at Argosy. We ventured a little further north and found a shiny new stand-alone Mexican restaurant next to a still under construction hotel and decided it would do. Little did we know this was place was brand spanking new! It is a traditional tex-mex restaurant, but the decor is light and bright, which makes the dining experience much better. I also enjoy the bar area, and even though it's quite simple, it looks clean and neat. This Mexican restaurant is not stuck in the past, and that's a breath of fresh air. The menu is sprawling with so many options that the paradox of choice runs rampant. I was quite overwhelmed, but what's new? I decided to focus on one section of the menu to make it more manageable, and my eyes landed on the twelve burritos featured on the menu. I settled on one that had the additions of chipotle sauce as well as smothered cheese on top. It came with rice inside as well as the choice of chicken or steak. As for the name, I believe it was the namesake of the restaurant, but I could be wrong. Whatever it was, it was darn good and decadent everything a "traditional" burrito should be. I was in Kansas City from early October to mid December 2024 and Palacio Maya quickly made my short list of local restaurants. I always ordered delivery from them so I can't say anything about their physical location. That said, their delivered food was always fresh, hot and packaged well. My main dish from Palacio Maya was the Camarones a la Diabla which is something I order regularly when it is offered. I've had this dish in San Diego, San Francisco, Phoenix, Denver, Salt Lake City, Boise and now Kansas City. Camarones a la Diabla from Palacio Maya is my favorite example of the dish anywhere I've had it. It is true to what I've come to expect, but it was just a bit extra. For instance there were discernable bits of diced garlic in the sauce. They say that the sauce has white wine in it (which I believe). It is just a more complex and flavorful sauce than I've had anywhere else. I mentioned that I always ordered for delivery and that Palacio Maya packaged their food well. With the Camarones a la Diabla they put the rice, lettuce, quac, and pico in a container and then the shrimp and sauce in an airtight container which I always just dumped into the other container when I was ready to eat. That kept everything at the right temp and stopped things from getting soggy or mixed together if you didn't want them mixed. It was very secure and I never had any issues with leaking or any kind of mess. I will be back to KC on occasion and when I'm in town Palacio Maya will always be a go-to for me. read more

Palacio Maya is the new hot local commodity for suburban Tex-Mex Sports bars. With this location being there forth to open in a relatively short period of time. I had been to their Gladstone location for cocktails and chips and salsa and really enjoyed it but this was my first time having anything from the large list of entree options. My co-worker and I started out with some chorizo dip to compliment the complimentary chips and salsa. Chips - light and crisp. Salsa - a solid "middle of the road" flavor and texture. Chorizo dip - the best dip I've ever had! So long boring queso, goodbye guacamole - the savory sausage chunks added a flavor and texture to the hot cheese that I didn't know I needed so bad. Definitely reordering every time and looking for it on other menus. The Tropical veggie fajitas sounded like a good late night option and it was. A piping hot and heaping pile of grilled onions and peppers of every color were topped with three grilled pineapple slices and a second heaping plate was piled with refried beans, Spanish rice, pico, guac, sour cream, lettuce and three flour tortilla. It made a wonderful meal; especially when adding a little of the chorizo dip to the tortilla. The space is bright and saturated with neon pastel coloring. Lots of TV's, a full bar and some very elegant wooden tables, booths and chairs that are carved / etched with decorative art and their brand. With service being solid and moderate pricing, I can't think of any reason not to give 5 stars. read more

Have been wanting to try this place as I see it all the time going to work. Thought I would order a to go through grub hub and I got a lunch chimi. It was reasonably priced and was a pretty good size for lunch. I also got chips and salsa with my order as well. The food was really good. I really liked how the meat was seasoned too. Salsa a little too spicy for me but it was good. The girl at the door that helped me was really nice too. The restaurant looked clean and nice but I didn't get to see much of it since I got a to go. This was our first time here. There was a solid crowd for a Thursday night. Service was acceptable but there were times when no one checked on us (empty chips, for instance). Prices were a bit on the high side. Medium margarita was $11.99 and very sour, not flavorful. I got my usual chicken enchiladas in green sauce (Yolanda's) which allows for a good comparison between restaurants. It was one of the worst I have ever tried. It was sour, like the margarita. I literally can serve a better tasting green sauce straight out of the can from Walmart. So I do not recommend that dish. My husband got cheese enchiladas and beans and he liked his dish. We will try the place again. I just won't order green sauce. read more

We just came home from dining at Palacio Maya Mexican Restaurant, what a wonderful place! Since this is in the old IHop building we fully expected an IHop interior, but NOOOOO they redid the whole place from ceiling to floor!! It is very welcoming, beautiful and tastefully decorated. The menu is extensive, we chose the dish called "Yolanda" (it's chicken enchiladas and we opted for the green sauce) it was absolutely delicious. The food came out in less than 10 minutes. The interior is a lot; they used all the colors and Mexican motifs, and the lighting, egads it's cafeteria bright. The server was friendly & fast, so fast she asked if we were ready now multiple times before we were ready to order. Like tranquilo, it's a Friday night @ 730, we just ordered "large" beers which turns out are 32oz, first time, love to chill & peruse. About those 32oz beers, they are served in heavy glass mugs, cuidado! The table tops are super shiny&slick, giant beers delivered w/o so much as a bev nap, thwonk! And proceeded to make a sweaty condensation mess, ahem, coasters. She finally broke us and got order. The queso had good flavor but watery thin, no app plates, already used my napkin to mop up beer, Not a relaxing experience. hubs dinner, birria burrito was unlike any birria as not shredded but neat chunks, flavor was pretty ok but w/ odd metallic finish. Pretty sure the kitchen had not received my order of bean nachos before because the plate delivered was iconically aesthetically unpleasant. Plate of mounded chips w/ some cheese melted on, w/ glops of beans mounded Sin Nada. I could go on about that atrocity, which mind you tasted fine, but gaaaa what self respecting line cook sends that out? Here's the kicker tho, our food was warm, all of it, like warm not hot-from queso to burrito to nachos. The check back on us was, well if there was one it was late. Mind you Friday night, prime-time, maybe 3 other tables in restaurant. We were excited as this is down the street, could this be our neighborhood Mexican joint?! My husband and I tried Palacio Maya Mexican Restaurant, located at 64th and I-29 this evening for the first time. Wonderful! The restaurant is spotless; the decor is welcoming, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The food is delicious. It is apparent that the food is made fresh, from scratch. The chicken, ground beef and pork were seasoned and cooked to perfection. I liked that the food was not covered in yellow, oily cheese like some other Mexican restaurants. Learned that this location has only been open for 4 months and I hope it will remain. We highly recommend and will definitely go back. read more
