The food here is excellent, and the staff is extremely friendly. The dining area isn't fancy, but it's clean. Only thing I would say, is that the portions are on the small side.

Quesabirrias Platillo. Difficult to eat, but satisfying. Minced red onion and cilantro on the side.

Really good affordable Mexican food with friendly service. Went here for the first time for lunch with a coworker and ordered the Queso Birria tacos, the Asada Fries, and a Burrito. We had our choice of salsas and picked an avocado cream salsa and a tomatillo salsa. We also got a basket of chips. Everything was tasty. I've had better queso birria in town, but the three tacos were filling and the meat was nicely braised. They were extremely greasy and the consommé was in a shallow dish, so you couldn't easily dip them. You had to spoon the broth on and then it would drip all over the plastic basket. The beef on the Asada fries was really good and I would probably order street tacos next time to taste more of the meats available here. I like that they were served with avocado slices. The burrito was big enough for two meals. We really enjoyed the salsas. I always think of avocado and tomatillo sauces of being extremely mild with no heat, but both of these had a small bite to them which was welcome and very good. And the avocado salsa actually tasted like avocado and not just like a creamy green sauce. It's definitely good enough for a return trip. And as the mark of good lunch spots everywhere, there was a table full of either construction workers or groundskeepers and a couple tables of older couples and families. It's with a return trip for sure. No alcohol or beer, but plenty of bottles of Mexican Coke and Jarritos.

I'm upset at myself for traveling all the way to the city, when great authentic street tacos have been around the corner! This joint is next to a gas station, so it's easy to miss. I had an assortment of tacos on their taco Tuesday! Chicken, Pork Belly, Chorizo, Steak , and Pork to be exact. My total work tax came to a little over $8 for the 5. My favorites were... all of them ! If I had to choose a top taco it would be either the pork belly or steak. All the meats were seasoned and I could of ate it by itself lol. The hot sauce that was given with it was an added bonus that truly kicked up all the flavors. I'm really interested to try the rest of their menu! Especially since I know the meats with other dishes would be a automatic hit! The associates there were all kind and made sure I was taken care of. It seems to be a family business too which I love!

My son and I always enjoy Mexican date nights together so we decided to try a new place. El Gallo is attached to a building that also houses a gas station and a little CBD shop, so it's nice and quaint, but those are often the best spots. I opted for two carne asada street tacos and he went for the chicken fajitas. The tacos had great flavor, but I did get a few pieces of chewy gristle. I love the avocado cream sauce and the fresh lime served with the tacos. My son really enjoyed his chicken fajitas and his beans were well-seasoned and very tasty. We are looking forward to coming back and trying some different next time!

Kansas City seems to have a thing about having amazing local restaurants located next to or attached to a gas station. This is another one. The restaurant is a wide open room. You place your order at the counter and then grab a table in the lobby. A sauce bar is along the wall if you're interested. Three tacos and a Mexican Coke costs about $8. Good food. Polite staff. I recommend if you're in the area.

4 different street tacos - carne asada, chicken, beef, and pork. Amazing!

The food was amazing and authentic. Definitely a hole in the wall, so the restaurant decor itself wasn't much to write about. The pricing was very cheap! Will go back.

Coming back with the pictures as promised and a small disclaimer: sometimes the shredded chicken has the occasional piece of bone or like maybe a little gristle in it. It doesn't bother me, but it's a turn off for my husband. But anyway, look at these beauties in these pictures! We went over the weekend and will be back tomorrow for Taco Tuesday!

Tiny place filled with great food and great people. We went in for the first time on taco Tuesday and tried at least one of each. The carne asada was our favorite and al pastor was second place for me. Their tomatillo salsa has great flavor (our fave) and to me the hot salsa wasn't that hot. It's good to supplement the others to give it a little kick. Their nachos are outstanding as well. Huge order with greatly flavored ground beef, beans, and nacho cheese. You have the option to get it with chicken instead. We were quite impressed and came back today to try the queso birria. It was amazing! I loved every bite and instantly said I could eat this at least once a week haha. I am glad they provided the hot sauce to add to the consome. While it tasted great by itself, it was nice to have a little heat. The people are friendly and everything is made to order. Highly recommend everyone try this place. It is our new favorite and reallllllly hope they stick around.

Got the Birria tacos to go, and when I got back to my hotel the consume cups had exploded. I think due to how hot the consume was? Dunno, but it tastes good. Heat proof containers would be nice

Stopped by el Gallo on our way through the area. It is a small unassuming place next to a gas station. We ordered at the counter and found a place to sit. They brought our food to our table. We had guac, which came with hot, fresh chips, and it was taco Tuesday, so we tried a variety of tacos. The carnitas was our favorite, but the al pastor came in second.

Excellent Food!! The staff is very friendly and the space is always extremely clean. Gem

Authentic Mexican. Incredible! 11/10 would recommend. Specials every weekday. The chicken enchiladas and carne asada tacos are to die for! There is a reason this place has perfect reviews. I wish I would have found this gem sooner!! My drive is 20 minutes from home to this location. I would EASILY double that drive without a second thought just for this incredible food. Try it and tell me I'm wrong, I dare you!

STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND COME HERE. I guess what they say about "hole in the wall" places being super good and this place is no exception. I always am hesitant to try "authentic Mexican street taco" places here because I'm spoiled and in my mind nothing could beat the street tacos I've had in Monterrey, Mexico. Plus Kansas City just has SO many Mexican places. Ignore all your reservations and just come and try this place. I was transported back to Mexico with the perfectly oily, lightly fried corn tortillas, cilantro, and onion. I got the pork belly and added hot sauce and it was the yummiest thing I've had in a long time. They ARE street style though so be prepared to eat like at least 4 easily! I also got the shrimp a la diabla and it was piping hot and fresh. The shrimp were large and the sauce they were cooked in was pleasantly spicy without skimping on flavor. Everything was clean and my order only took about 10 minutes. The owner mentioned he's been open about 6 months and would love more business. Well Yelp world. Here's your invite. Go check this place out!!!

A staff member, for lack of a better word, gave me the cold shoulder and said the kitchen was closed. My wife was still interested in getting some tacos, so I thought about where to go. This place came to mind. We had been there before and had a good experience, and when we got here, there were maybe about 15 minutes before the kitchen closed. I believe the person who said to us was also the manager, a really nice lady. She let us know that the kitchen was closing in about 15 minutes, but we were more than welcome to order and we'd be taken care of. Sure enough, we got a nice seat, good ambience, and a great waiter. They got us a seat, gave us some recommendations on the menu. I ended up ordering the Steak Quesadilla along with the complimentary chips and salsa with the three different types of salsa that they have. Came with that. My wife ended up ordering the Soft Shell Crab Tacos. I'll give the quesadilla a 4 out of 5. Great steak flavor, had some other grilled vegetables on the inside. Not as much cheese as I would like, but it had great flavor. The guacamole that came with it was pretty good. I loved the green salsa that came with the trio of salsas. I'm going to say it's tomatillo. I didn't ask. I'm not sure, but it tasted great. Good portion size, really good waitstaff. He took care of us. I was pleasantly taken care of on my side. My wife had the soft-shell crab tacos, nice and fresh, really big portion. She liked my quesadilla, so she went ahead and ordered her a plate of those as well. She only had about half the quesadilla portion. She had to take the other half to go. She did get a pineapple margarita, which she really enjoyed. She finished that completely. We really enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. It was nice, and I enjoyed myself. The soft-shell crab was a four out of five for the taco. She was a little thrown by the fact that the shell was still on it, which was a whole thing that she laughed with the waiter about. I'll say that we'll definitely be back to try their brunch, which the manager invited us to. If you've never been to this restaurant, you should definitely give them a try.

I've had a very hard time finding much Latin diversity here so far but for Mexican this is quite good. I've mostly gotten combo platters because I like the variety. I believe every combo platter should come with rice and beans. I can tell how authentic a place is by the beans and salsa quite often. So far I've liked the combo platters and the taco salad that I tried. Again, if I remember correctly, I had to pay extra to get beans on my taco salad. That would be one complaint I have. Beans should be a staple and come with everything unless the person doesn't want them. The service has been good. No complaints and it's been busy when we've eaten there usually during lunch hours. The decor and ambiance is pretty typical Mexican. Nothing fancy. The one thing I will note is I didn't see any Mexicans working there. Maybe someone in the kitchen I can't see so that's usually not a great sign. I know they've been around a long time. I'd probably go a smidge lower to 3.5 if I could just because I'm rather picky about Mexican and Latin food but I don't think it's fair to go down to 3 so I'm rounding up. The prices seem a bit high but everything is so expensive in 2026! They are probably pretty average for eating out and I'm sure it's costing them more just like all the rest of us have seen food prices sky rocket over the past year. I would certainly recommend them for a lunch bite and a nice Mexican American experience.

The food was done at the quoted time and was accurate. The one individual I encountered was friendly. The menu was very straightforward-tacos, burritos, and a few other items, all can be customized. I had to get an order of chips and queso. I really liked their queso. It had good flavor and wasn't overly spicy. The chips were fresh and held up to the queso nicely. I'm definitely probably alway going to order this when I go. I also tried a taco with carne asada. The tacos are the street variety but they are really good sized. They don't skimp on the meat. And the carne asada was really good. No gristle or gross bits. It was chopped finely and I'd definitely order it again. I also had to try a burrito. I tried the El pastor for that and added on all the toppings-cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. I also opted for extra meat because it was super cheap-like $1, so why not? Again, I was not disappointed. I did throw my burrito on the good 'ol George Foreman when I got home because they don't grill it at all and I wanted some grill marks on that tortilla. Otherwise, the el pastor was flavorful and tender and the toppings were all fresh. Per usual, my eyes were bigger than my stomach so I saved half of my burrito, but it was a welcome leftover meal the following day. We will definitely stop back by when we are in the area!

Had dinner here on a Sunday night. The place wasn't too busy, but the ambiance was great. I started…read morewith the pineapple mezcal drink (La Piña Ahumada) -- not too sweet, with just the right amount of smokiness. It was one of the best mezcal cocktails I've ever had, and I stuck to those for the rest of the night. Drinks came out incredibly fast, and our server was attentive and informative. My favorites were the Higos y Queso de Cabra and the Pintxo de Pollo y Chorizo. We ordered about seven different dishes and enjoyed them all -- the food was filling, fresh, and tasted homemade. One of my new favorites in KC.

This place is great if you love variety because you can order multiple tapas and share with the table, and/or just enjoy for yourself! I have tried their Paella Mariscos, Breakfast Paella, and one other, all were SO delicious! The shrimp were cooked especially well and the servings are generous enough for multiple helpings. Their sangria rojo is delicious, as are their wine offerings (I love a place that offers flights!) And they have great discounts each day of the week. If you like coffee, their Spanish coffee comes with a fiery performance by the servers - it was beautiful and so delicious! I really want to compliment their hospitality and attentiveness for the birthday brunch. We had a party of 8 and ordered a ton of tapas to share and the staff/kitchen timed their delivery perfectly along with entree delivery and drink refills so our table was pretty busy. Overall two great experiences, super delicious food, and lots of options so you can try something new with every visit! I'm already looking forward to going back
