This company preys upon young travellers who don't know their rights or what is acceptable from a…read moreLondon/UK rental company/property. We paid a ridiculously high fee for a "garden property" (a SHED) for a couple months in 2002 (yes. I'm still bitter 20 yrs on). The "room" was so terrible we eventually requested to be moved, but were then placed in a small, grimy room in a smelly building with a gross entry, a shared, dirty bathroom and revolting shower. Oh, and we saw our first dead body ever on the road outside the front property. We were told there simply were not other options available for people looking to let for under a year period. What liars. They had us sign contracts upon arrival (literally 'straight off the boat' - v jetlagged) - I had a number of questions about some of the items I wasn't comfortable with in the contract and the 'greeter' ASSURED us that the contract just has a bunch of generic stuff in it that doesn't actually apply to us, and we didn't need to read it. Yes, this was a massive red flag - unfortunately though I wanted to walk away and just find a hostel temporarily, the girl I was travelling with (who worked in rental properties in the US) assured me she was confident they weren't dodgy. Let me just say we are no longer friends. When we paid our final month's rent, we were told to come to their property at a certain time. There was a queue of 15 people we had to wait for in order to hand over our 'cash' (we were not advised we would be charged a fee for cc - and 3 of us were sharing a property, we didn't want to be carrying that kind of cash - I'm *CERTAIN* they don't report the full amount to the taxman). More young people just kept turning up behind us. When we got to the office, they made up a ton of fake charges - nothing that HAD been mentioned in the original, crazy 'contract', and then told us we owed additional fees because we WERE 'wedded' to the contract we signed (that we were explicitly advised wasn't relevant). Our original greeter who lied to us was present - I went mental. I called him out. And, I walked out of the office to ask each of the 15 further young people queuing up in the hall behind us if they told them the same rubbish as what they told us. EVERYONE in the queue said they had the same experience. Gentle hysteria was bubbling. The Accommodation Scumdon peeps finally relented just to keep me from exposing the truth to the rest of the crowd. Unbelievable. Do Not Give Them Your Time, Money, or Trust

It's tall and tricky to climb. Many stairs and elevators with loads of buttons- zombies can't use those things. tee-hee. Anyway, back to serious things: Trellick tower is the most famous piece of council house architecture in London. It was designed by Erno Goldfinger in 1966 for the "Greater London Council". Erno based his design on Trellick's sister from East London- Balfron Tower. The whole construction was completed in 1972 and the tower consists of 31 storeys and 217 flats. Woohoooo! But things were never like this: even though Trellick is considered an arhitectual symbol, in it's notorious heyday it was known for the (social) problems, racial tension, troubled youths, rapes and drugs. Lookie here, the Guardian describes it perfectly: "With luck, one of the tower's three lifts would be working. Fresh graffiti, used condoms and a passed-out vagrant might have been waiting inside when the doors parted. The 12-person aluminium box, shaped like a coffin, would grind upwards at 1.5 metres per second. Often it would stop at the wrong floor, open into darkness and the sound of dripping water, then resume the ascent. One Christmas, vandals on the 12th floor opened the fire hydrant and unleashed thousands of gallons of water into the lifts, blowing fuses and leaving the block without electricity, heat, water or toilet facilities. Grind up another three floors and you would be where a 27-year-old woman was dragged from the lift and raped. Down the same corridor a depressed young mother jumped to her death. On the 21st floor, an 11-year-old girl was dragged from a lift into the chute room and attacked. If there was a figure huddled in a doorway, it was best not to check. It could have been a prostitute waiting for business, an addict shooting up, an imminent squatter or a neighbour, fumbling for a key. This was Trellick Tower. To newspapers it was the Tower of Terror or Colditz in the Sky, to residents it was hell" I hear, the most memorable story about the Trellick Tower (compared to the horror- the Shining wanna be other stories) was a the man who parachuted from the 30th floor, but sadly, he didnt make it. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguardian/1999/mar/11/features11.g28 the rest of the article, it's really good.) As this article puts it, "Trellick's transformation is the closest urban renewal gets to fairytale - one which planners hope will become a model for Britain". The actual flats are like puzzles.. Also, the sliding doors to the balconies are just amazing and the terraces are big. I wish i had one... :( After 1999, a big changed happened and just look at it now! - Trellick is sparkling! it's clean and safe, it's adored by architects and photographed by tourists, it's painted by local artists (who gives all his masterpieces to the tenants), it appears in movies and adds. Trellick Tower is absolutely brilliant.

I have read COUNTLESS terrible reviews about this place, but wanted to still give it a chance. First of all, I arrived at the hotel at 9:30PM and there was no one to check me in. There is a phone that says pick it up and wait for someone to respond. Did that like 10 times only to get a disconnected signal at the end. I was so confused. My company booked this hotel for me because others in the area were occupied. I called my boss and she called the company who said someone will be over. Waited for 10 minutes, and a man entered the building. I asked if he worked there and he said no, I asked how he checked into the hotel and he said everyone checks in across the street. Very confused. So I go across the street, the man follows me and goes behind the counter. I said, so you do work here? He ignored me. I then try to check in and he said he never received a payment from my company, I show him the CONFIRMATION PRINT OUT of the booking. He then replies he doesn't see that on his end. Okay, so I wanted to check in for a night and pay cash. He said I can't do that because then I would have to pay a cancellation fee for my other room. I told him, but you just said you didn't receive payment so it's not even booked for me to cancel. He then kept arguing back and forth about this. I just stormed out and went to "Easy Hotel" nearby. Super tiny, but clean and super friendly/accommodating staff. I also read how Dylan Apartments likes to double charge credit cards and overall, just terrible reviews so I know this isn't the first time they try to scam someone.

Then I read they did the renovation. Okay, whew. That's alright then. So we called ahead of time and requested one of the renovated rooms (that's the key here, make sure you get a renovated room). I am pretty sure this place is a hooker hotel/hostel. When we left we saw a female going up the stairs with two very excited male companions. Something was DEFINITELY going on there. I also saw a couple of girl tourists traveling together. Don't be fooled by any good reviews, this place is a dump. But it's a cheap, it'll get you buy for a few nights dump. The bathroom was so small I could barely fit in it. I'm 5'5" and barely 120 lbs. We had to leave the door open to shower and brush our teeth. The bed was comfortable and there is a mini fridge but I would honestly just use it for breakfast and eat out instead. Spend as little time in the room as you can. Use the location ONLY to sleep on the cheap. I won't be going back here again. Also, they charged us to hold our luggage when we left the second day for the conference. It's that type of place! :)
