Great food, but also subpar experience. We love the burgers & onion rings here, and my son loves the BLT (without mushroom). But Lone Fir is rigid in how they treat customers and seems overly focused on making money. During our most recent visit, they refused to accommodate our party of 6 by finding a way to let us sit together. Rather than let us push tables together, bring 6 chairs around a table , or open up another seating area with tables of 6, we were forced to sit apart at tables of 4. They also have very high prices and find ways to run the cost up, like charging for a side of sauce. Our visit just didn't feel very welcoming. Downgrading a star for this and hope they improve the customer experience. read more

The facility does a great job of making things fun and engaging for tourists. Before you even enter you are greeted by a Bigfoot that will read you your fortune for a dollar which is pretty cute. Their gift shop is stocked well with items that folks might actually need while going into ape caves or summiting Mt st Helen's. The restaurant portion here has one of the juiciest most flavorful burgers I've had- no joke. It came with shoe string fries that had seasoning (I believe it was rosemary). I also had the huckleberry lemonade and a hot coco and both were excellent. The staff were all very kind, welcoming, quick, and helpful. They even helped us find the weather report for Mt. St. Helens summit the next day and gave us some tips for having a successful hike. We stayed one night in a two twin room. The room was well decorated and clean as well as the beds being decently comfortable. Unfortunately the restroom had some things get missed during the clean. There were baby spiders all over the ceiling and climbing down the walls, it smelled strongly of urine, and there were globs of hair on the floor and in the shower- we had to use a hand towel to tidy up the floor and kill as many of the spiders as we could. This wasn't my first time staying here, so I know the bathroom being like that is not the norm- must have just been missed by accident. If I need to stay in Cougar in the future I would definitely still stay here again. read more

This is a good place to stop on the way to or from Ape Cave, one of the only places to stop for food. It's overpriced for the quality, but that's what you get in the middle of nowhere. I stayed at Lone Fir for 2 nights to facilitate my Mount Saint Helens climb and I couldn't be happier with the services provided. Check-in was easy and quick. The manager at the desk was very friendly and made sure to remind me to take enough water on my hike the next morning. The gift shop has all of the basic things you may need if you are camping nearby need a snack or want to take a souvenir home. I ate dinner at the café on my last night a few hours after I finished my climb. I took a quick shower before coming over & I was completely exhausted just looking forward to some filling food before going to bed early since I had an early morning the next day as well. Jeanette, Kendra, and Jeff we're all busy, taking care of a handful of families, but I spoke to each of them and they were very nice and wanted to make sure that I liked my food and to inquire how my hike went. I know they probably talk to a lot of people that come through there that do the same activities I did, but I really appreciated them actually having a conversation with me while they were working so diligently. The food was great though. I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries and took a Oreo milkshake to go to my room when I finished up. For being so remote the quality and price of the food here is quite good. You definitely are not sacrificing quality by eating here. My room during the day was one of the lodge apartments. It was perfectly size for a lone traveler like myself with a big comfortable bed, adequate cooling and a large bathroom. A microwave fridge and coffee maker were also available. If you're looking for a place to stay in the area, I think you would be hard pressed to find something more suitable & convenient. They have a pool on site as well as amenities to barbecue outdoors. 30 minutes to the trailhead if you're planning on climbing Mount Saint Helens. Wi-Fi included if you're staying there and for a small fee if you're dining. There is no cell coverage here so that is important. Solid choice! read more

We stopped here for lunch. The food tasted ok. It was SO expensive. $30 for a burger and a coke no fries just a bag of chips. You also have to pay to use WiFi! There is no cell service there. We also ordered a cup of chili that was a very small portion. The positives; staff were nice and ice cream cones huge. We have stayed here twice now. Its location to the national forest is great for us who love to forage for mushrooms and other plants!! The rooms are spectacular, clean and comfortable in a lovely little town. Now there is a restaurant and gift shop here too and the food is delicious!! Served by the nicest people in the area!!!!!!! Lone Fir was a great stop on our vacation! Stayed in one of the cabins for a night, cabin was clean and as described, no complaints. Swim in the pool was pleasant while some laundry spun in the coin operated laundromat. Had dinner at the cafe and I thought the food was really solid considering you're in a fairly remote location. Everything was fresh, service was top notch (frog tatoo guy and lobe pierced gal, I appreciate y'all). Be nice to people and be considerate and they will more often than not return the gesture. read more

We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon skipping rocks on the shore of Yale Lake, explored the Ape Cave, and shot some great photos of the majestic Mt St Helens, which is just around the corner from Lone Fir. I love this place! I stayed at Lone Fir Resort for one night - I wish I stayed much longer, and will next time. I had a standard room (3C). It was cozy, but spacious for a basic room and spotlessly clean. The bed was quite comfortable, and topped with a lovely quilt. I'd describe the decor as 'tasteful lodge' with clear attention to detail. My bathroom had white subway tile, thick towels, and Beekman 1802 bath products. So much care and thought has clearly gone into outfitting the rooms! Plus, my room had wall-mounted AC. The staff members were super friendly and helpful. My group played horseshoes, shopped at the awesome gift shop, had delicious pizza, fries, fried mushrooms, milk shakes, and hamburgers at Bigfoot's Lodge, played games in the clubhouse, explored to see if we could find all the cabins, and then drove to see Mount Saint Helens and the Ape Caves. We also spent some time skipping rocks at beautiful Yale Lake across the road from the resort. Keep in mind that Bigfoot's Lodge restaurant's days and hours change with the season, so check the website and plan accordingly. I give it five stars all the way! read more

Ask the Rangers at the Ape Caves where is the best place to eat for a vegetarian? After they got done laughing, they suggested that loaner would have the most options. Also mentioning the sign that says adult beverages, which I admit did catch my eye. The girl that waited on us had just been there for 10 days and had driven up from Florida. She was cheerful, helpful and a lot of fun to talk to. The food was good. We just had hamburgers. They have an impossible option. The jalapeño ranch and onion rings was delicious. After a long hike, there is nothing like grilled food, so maybe I am a little biased. They were SUPER short staffed when we arrived and had to wait 20+ minutes for a table. But it was worth it! My group got fish and chips, salad, and burgers, which were all fantastic. The huckleberry blueberry lemonade was sublime. Like drinking the best candy ever. We felt bad for the lone waitress, who was super apologetic about the wait time, so we pitched in to leave her a fat tip. Restrooms were spotless, a welcome change from trail bathrooms. Overall a little expensive, but worth it for a hearty meal in the middle of nowhere. Oh, and the gift shop staff sold me a stamp and mailed my souvenir postcard for me, which was nice. read more

What could improve? That is a really good question. I ordered the fish & chips for $27 but came out with 3 pieces of fish. They were the size of small chicken tenders. I forgot to take a pictures before the waitress kindly offered to replace it with something else. Another problem we had there. We asked the waitress if is best for order taking because we had a total of 4 families with kids. We had kids sit @ the kids table & adults sat at another close by. She advised that they will take our order by table separately & later separate. What a big mess & joke. The bills comes out & was a big mess. Over charged & wrong items on each bill. We found the place: Clean Restroom clean Cozy Somewhat busy Cute gift shop Friendly server (been here a month) she couldn't answer a few questions but still did a great job. Didn't like - No cell service in Cougar, they offered WiFi for $2 - really ?! Wanted a glass of red wine - they didn't offer by the glass only the bottle for $23 - they did have a few wines by the glass but not what I wanted. Got a beer on tap instead. We came in for a pizza and salad We were told they were out of salad and the pizza we wanted with a mushroom sauce was unavailable. We decided on a pepperoni pizza and onion ring basket (simple) The onion ring basket seemed spendy at $8.50 however there was probably 15 or more in the basket were pretty flavorful for frozen rings worth the price until we got the bill and were charged $1.09 for 2 dipping sauces that were in 1.5 ounce metal container filled half way - enough to dip maybe 4 rings. Pepperoni pizza was $18 for a 12" decent not worth more than $14/$15 at most I felt that the food was a bit overpriced, should have been told we would be charged for dip sauce and charging for WiFi for paying customers in an area with no cell service is a bit much. Would probably stop there again for a cold beer on tap but not the food. read more

**Vegetarian Review** I stopped by at Lone Fire Cafe after Mt. St. Helens hike to grab some much needed hot food. My friend had dietary restrictions - gluten free and vegan. We were surprized to find vegetarian pizza option with cauliflower crust and hence had to stop by. First of all the service is really fast, and the waitress did not linger. She knew exactly when to stop and at the perfect frequency. We ordered - fries, soup of the day (vegetable soup with tomato base) and vegetarian pizza with cauliflower crust. All the food arrived promptly and everything was absolutely delicious. The fries were not at all greasy, the soup was super refreshing and the pizza base - oh gosh. We had to ask and double check if its gluten free cause it felt like regular base, however sure to taste it was cauliflower crust, with mild cauliflower flavour. It was so much better than expected. We had mentioned we will take coffee to go for our drive, and our waitress brew a fresh pot of coffee which needless to say was really good and made sure we didnt fall asleep on the drive back. My son had some onion rings and they were nicely cooked and tasty (probably from frozen but let's not be too snobby) Yes a little pricey but you're in a small town vacation spot that needs the markup given the volume. Only odd downside was the waitress kind of grumbling and warning us it may take some time because there was a table of six and a table of ten. We went for an afternoon drive heading to Longview from Vancouver staying off of I-5, and ended up in Cougar, WA. We pulled into The Bigfoot Resort and Lone Fir restaurant and bar. My husband had the Yale Burger and said it was the best hamburger he'd had in a very long time. I ordered the Bigfoot BBQ Bacon Burger which was delicious. We started out with the waffle fries pulled pork appetizer which was also yummy. Our waiter was very attentive and nice to talk with. We ordered Huckleberry milkshakes to have for the drive home. We visited the Ape Caves at Mt. St. Helens and were very hungry. We heard that the cafe at this resort was really good. My group got the Bigfoot burger and mushroom burger, root beer float and huckleberry milkshake. The burgers came with chips but you could upgrade to fries or onion rings. Dessert was delicious. After a long day of hiking at Ape Cave we were looking for a place to grab some quick take out. This place had a cute shop right at the entrance that we checked out while we waited for our order. Lots of neat items perfect for souvenirs and presents. The restaurant itself has a cut lodge theme with both an inside dining area as well as a patio, and with it being a beautiful day out, that patio was completely packed. Their menu has pretty much all the good eats anyone needs. Fries and other apps, salads and soups, pizza, sandwiches, fish n chips, and ice cream! The crew we were with ordered up some food to go and the little sister and I went straight for the sweet spot. We only waited about 15 mins or so and they were able to get our food out to us pretty quickly. While our friends enjoyed their snacks in the car, we savored our root beer floats with generous helpings of ice cream. Everyone left happy, full, and replenishing all the calories we'd burned from hiking. Great spot for some quick snacks before a long drive back. read more

We didn't intend to cancel, only change dates. Despite having amble availability on the day I booked and amble availability on the day I wanted to make the change for, the only way to change dates was to cancel our reservation, get charged a night and rebook. It is my fault for booking in advance, policy is clearly stated. But knowing Jeremy has the same type of room open on the 2 nights I booked, and everything is wide open 2 weeks later, makes no sense. I enquired about the change a week before our stay. My mistake has cost me $152 It has cost Lone Fir $152 for the extra night we would have stayed, plus the patronage of utilizing the restaurant, plus word of mouth. I've always supported this business from the time Jeremy (the owner) moved up from California and made a go in the small town of Cougar. This would have been our 4th stay. I have no problem camping in my Subaru or backpacking in, that is our new plan. Staying at your cabin was a nice touch to our climbing trip and an attempt to support small business. The only way to communicate with the property is by email. They will not answer the phone, nor call back. This is the only hotel to stay in Cougar, fortunately not the only place to eat. The Cougar Bar and Grill has great food and is less expensive. There are other hotels off I-5. 4 stars is reserved for those with good customer service. I can no longer recommend your property to friends or family. Best of luck Jeremy, I think you are going to need it. read more

Don't you dare miss this spot! We stopped on our way to the Ape Cave, and then again on our way back. Great service, plenty of space in and out, and delicious drinks and food! Barbara hooked us up with some drinks on our way to the cave, and she was friendly, professional, and on it! We came back through later for more drinks and some food. I had the Abdominal Avocado Chicken Sandwich. Loaded with Avo, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a perfectly grilled chicken breast. It was all put together just right, and I believe there was a jalapeno ranch involved. Partner had a burger with the "Impossible" patty, and said it was good, but nothing to write about. Bloody Mary's were on point. Only bad thing I will say is add-ons really rack up the bill: Fries+4, veggie patty+2, cheese+2... so an $11 burger quickly jumped to almost $20. read more

I'm in disbelief by how this situation has been twisted. I told myself I wouldn't give you folks anymore of my time or money. I then decided not to let your staffs influence on our trip effect the time we anticipated with our friends family and children. We beyond communicated and that's where the problem lies. We booked the pool and game room with prior notice and we're told occupancy of 8 was allowed for pool and 10 for game room. What happened? The next morning when I was over the situation my wife and I wanted coffee. We ordered two mediums and were charged 12 bucks. I was given a small, my wife received her medium. I politely asked is this a medium hot coffee? holding my small cup, and was told we only serve one size... Why was I able to order the medium then? We really love the area and it's a 45 minute drive from our residence. We will never go back to your resort unfortunately. We were just a family that came to your resort to build memories, and now our memories will always be how we were treated by your staff. read more

We were out scouting camping in the Mt St Helen's area and came across this place. The menu says it's "Bigfoot's Lodge @ Lone Fir" but when searching found under this name. It was seat yourself...the seating area was very welcoming - inside & outside options. Our waitress engaged with us for a few minutes out of the entire time we were there - taking our drink order & food order, delivering it and then brought us our bill (not even asking how every thing tasted). Their mimosas were good but the food itself was over salted and was not worth the price (they charged for each item - build your own breakfast style). When we are in the area, I think we will just continue by - stopping in woodland or at the local gas station for a snack to hold over till woodland read more

Stopped in for a late lunch on a nice November day. It was too cold for outdoor seating. They only have 5 tables and they got full fast. The staff managed to accommodate everyone and the burgers were great. We liked the quaint feel of the place and it was clean and clean restrooms. My wife had the Yeti burger which she said was very good but tasted more like beef. I had the Loowit burger and it was very tasty. Good fries too. Rudest camp hosts ever. Constantly coming over to remind us of the rules, about quiet time, dog rules, etc even when we're quiet. We have 7 campsites this year, and will definitely not camp here again. Not for hunting in the fall or camping in the summer. Total rude power trippers running this place. No wonder it's half empty. And no, our neighbors did not move because of us. They moved because the weather is supposed to get HOT. They wanted a shade spot.
