This was the worst camping trip we have had, but it wasn't the fault of the staff or grounds, that is why I still give it a three star rating. The staff were helpful and the host was super nice, always said hello and stopped to have conversations with my husband. We booked this trip somewhat last minute, and didn't get a very good spot in the B loop. We went to the booth at the front of the entrance to see if there was a chance of a cancellation on A loop. The woman there was friendly and helpful and found us a great spot in A10.
On the surface this spot was great, unobstructed views of the water, sunlight, large area for our family to camp, and access to the water via "steps." Unfortunately there were drawbacks. The wind was so strong in this spot that we couldn't cook very well, it kept blowing out the flames on our bbq. There was a burn ban in affect so we couldn't use the campfire to cook. Wind was so strong it gave me a headache and I spent a lot of my time reading in my tent.
The "steps" are rather steep indents into the stone and hard to traverse. Not too difficult but the real difficulty was the receding water line and how hard it was to get up and down to the water. I would suggest going earlier in the summer to avoid this. Also other campers would walk through our campsite to get to the water, not a deal breaker but it was hard to have private moments when strangers are marching through at all hours.
The pluses were definitely the staff, all were extremely helpful and friendly. The campsites were very well maintained and super clean, we didn't find any debris from the previous campers. The bathrooms have toilets that actually flush! Sorry but this is a super plus to me, I hate the stinky holes at most campgrounds.
Would I go there again? It's a tossup, while the staff was nice and accommodating and the grounds were maintained well, I had a crap experience. I think this place would be superb in an earlier month. read more
