I am reporting my personal experience as follows with the owners of Lone Oak I was a boarder and student of Shari's for several years. However, Shari often badger me and even told me that I must be deaf because my I didn't understand the instructions (how can you when she merely repeates everything the sameway). Finally(and thank God) Shari just gave up on her and passed her to another trainer that was MUCH better. Since then I progressed in my riding immensely. It wasn't until I decided to sell my horse did they showed their true colors: 1. Stephen on Christmas Eve demanded that I get a money order for a bounced check by the next day, acknowledging that it wasn't possible. I did not volunteer as Stephen would claim.I tried to compromise but they wouldn't have it. Instead,I had to tell them to stop messaging her because I was with family. I paid in cash on Christmas to which Shari said I wasn't allowed to do that again (even though in the same text her husband said cash was fine). From then, I made sure to take pictures of paying them to the point of videoing counting the money and putting it in an envelop and the payment box. 2. They came up with charges when my horse was away- never once discussing it with me. Then they demanded that I show them the bill of sale for my horse when it was none of their business. I never intended for my horse to come back to this ranch because he was under fed. At that point they said I couldn't take lessons with my trainer because "they said so", knowing this was a financial burden to my trainer and that I was improving. If they don't like you, you're out. This really just shows how they don't care about fostering the love of horses or encouraging people. Shari has done this to her own clients too in the last month. 3.Since leaving, the owners owe me about $300 for services not given. My horse left on the 4th and they have not reimbursed me for hay, cleaning, or shavings since his departure, but kept his entire board.Nothing in the contract says this. Stephen claims that it's like an apartment. However, according to the contract I have paid and bought 3bags of shavings a week and 4 flakes a hay a day since Jan 4th. That will then be used for someone else and even though I paid in full for this, I wont be reimbursed for not needing it. 4. When my frind posted this on Yelp, Shari even verbally accosted me and said "You better take down that review or my husband is going to come after you."- You can see this in their responses Overall, it has seemed to me that Shari and Stephen put a target on my back when Shari failed to train me and I began to progress. Once their opportunity came to stick it to me, they did. This was seen by how Shari would make snide comments about me to my new trainer, Shari would show up and linger around her lessons specifically, and even called her "kiddo" when my friend is a grown woman. So if you don't want people that create a toxic environment, make up silly rules (you can't video tape your horse or kid), and hidden fees don't ride with these people or board here. It's not worth it. *Please note. This is only a reflection on the owners and their actions. Lone Oak provides other trainers that are better and more competent. RESPONSE TO OWNERS 2/15: Stephen and his son are notorious for drinking on site with kids around. His son will operate heavy machinery after a beer and vaping. Wine is easily reachable in office for small kids. So is this really a safe environment for kids? As to the written notice, I gave verbal 30 days notice in November and followed up with a text at the end of December reminding them I had given 30 days notice. (see photo) My new trainer is now financially in the hole thousands of dollars which is a burden on her. To address I'm trying to "take them down" and the owners response. I would be an idiot if i had told them I was going to take them down. But I'm not and idiot and I'm not trying to do that. I want to share my story. You can tell from the owners NEW message that he is desperate to save face for his wife's sake. Like I've said, try another trainer if you want to progress in your riding. P.S. The true harassment is the owners as seen by their response. They can't prove I never improved as I never rode in the same area as them and avoided times I knew Shari would be around. Frankly they can't prove whether I did or didn't but it's also not their business once I left Shari as a student.

I did weekly lessons and learned a lot about the horse and riding. I learned how to ride all kinds of horses from green (not fully trained) horses to the competition horses. It was one of the reasons why I became so into horseback riding. I loved Dennis's deep knowledge on horses and how he worked and partnered with the amazing horses he has in the stable. I also learned to work with cows and learned to do advanced techniques over the years. Dennis teaches you that patience helps you a lot around horses. He teaches you to be safe on the ground and in the saddle. Yes, it takes years to learn to horseback ride. It is the same for all sports and even learning instruments. You gotta understand that things take time. I describe horseback riding is like a tree. You learn the basics or the standard skill. Each basic technique you learn branches off to more advanced skills. Also, repetitions are key! Anyway, I recommend Dennis Bright as a caring and acknowledgeable horseback riding mentor. He has the safest horses to ride compared to the other stables I visited. The biggest thing he makes sure is that you the student is safe. Not many horseback riding teachers do this! - Kathryn K.

We will definitely be back next summer! I wish we lived close enough to do riding lessons here on a regular basis!

There is a lovely covered arena, a big round pen, mini trails, tons of turnouts, exceptional quality hay even my draft cross kept weight on. There is a picnic area and even a kids playground. This barn is both kid and dog friendly which is incredibly rare these days. They have jumps and barrels and sometimes in barn events. They are constantly improving and keeping things in tip top shape. There are comfy lounges and every thing is always tidy and neat. The owner Karla is a truly good human who is dedicated, professional and at the same time down to earth and kind. This used to be a really nice facility but unfortunately has been going downhill for awhile…read more Britteny Streeval is the latest in a revolving door of barn managers. No one wants to work for the barn owner for long. He is rude, doesn't respect women, and condescending. Brittney doesn't know anything about horses or the care that they need. She outright refuses to address potential safety hazards, instead prioritizing weed whacking. If boarders come to her with complaints she is likely to lose her temper, yelling and waving her hands violently. There are many trainers with excellent programs, but if any handicap person wants to come watch their child ride there is no handicap bathroom for them to go to. Very disappointing that a public facility doesn't have handicap accomodations. In addition to this, the bathrooms chronically have difficulty flushing and the toilets are almost always full of poop. The arenas dragging is poorly done, leading to bad footing and rivets in the sand. This is a shame because the arenas used to have extraordinary footing, especially in the indoor arena. Break ins to vehicles is not uncommon, as well as cigarette butts found in horses stalls. Communication between management and boarders is limited. The board has been raised twice in the last 6 months, even during the decline in quality. On July 4th the horses didn't get fed until 10pm Sometimes the hay is moldy. Boarders are not always notified when their horse gets out. Stall cleaners do not always remember to chain gates.

I started…read moreout super cautious and being absolutely TERRIFIED of hitting my horse instead of the ball. Fran was patient with me and very understanding and so was everyone else at the club! Polo is usually considered a sport with a very high barrier to entry: typically most people think you need to be an avid equestrian, you need to be super athletic, you need to be crazy rich, you need to own multiple horses, and thats definitely not the case. South Bay is an incredibly welcoming, safe place to learn how to play polo. Fran has an excellent program called "Academy" where you'll be placed in a group of your peers who are also new to polo and you all learn the basics at a comfortable, stress free pace. No one is ever pushed to go faster than they are comfortable going and emphasis is placed on accuracy with the ball and safety ALWAYS safety first! Some people may think of polo and think SPEED but...as one of the pros say "theres absolutely no point in being the fastest to get to the ball if you don't know what to do with it once you get there!" Club members are absolutely wonderful and kind, always super patient with all my questions and super eager to help out. Some of the members are really all-stars competing in tournaments at levels I could only dream of, but when you surround yourself with players at that level they help you improve simply by watching them and interacting and practicing around them! You can always try out a private lesson first to see if polo is for you- it is very different from any other style of riding Ive ever done, the reins are held in your left hand and mallet with the right hand. But I promise you, the second you hear that perfect THWACK sound when you have your first connection with the ball you'll be addicted to it! (for the record I whiffed the ball maybe 10-20 times before ever actually getting a solid hit lol) I still have a very long way to go in my polo journey and I am super excited to have found a place that nurtures my growth!
