Well I told them that when I went in for my FREE oil change and instead of taking advantage of me they looked over the car, said they couldn't find anything bad with it in a quick overlook but they noticed something loose under the hood and tightened it down so if there's still a problem I could bring it in later for an in depth look. We moved to Midland about two months ago and I needed a routine oil change and tire balance/ rotation done on my Chevrolet. The price I got over the phone for the oil change was a bit higher than I am used to, but I agreed to it considering the demand in the Permian Basin area. I scheduled my appointment for the morning and came in to have the services performed at the agreed time. Almost 2.5 hours later, services were finally completed and I was handed the bill for $300 including the oil change ($90) and over $200 for rotating and balancing four tires. Needless to say, I am happy with the services, but for that amount of money you would think it wouldn't have taken nearly as long with an appointment. Called them on Tuesday...dropped my truck off on Wednesday...they diagnosed, ordered parts and completed all repairs on Thursday! Our transmission failed about 50 miles East of Midland while we were on a cross country trip. The tow truck driver told us the mechanics at Lonestar could fix just about anything. Their shop was clean and the employees were open and friendly. Their prices were in the midrange for what most websites stated was the going rate for replacing a transmission. I'm a pro mechanic and would never do business with them again sent one of the company pickups to them for a check engine light with a few minor issues to be done the minor things were done right but had to have it towed over 3 more times to have the check engine light repaired and each time it wasn't completed the last time they said the dpf system needed replacement after changing out nearly $4000 worth of parts associated with the system that did no good. We were visiting family in Midland and our car threatened to give up the ghost. Called the guys at Lone Star and they were very friendly over the phone. They asked me a few troubleshooting questions and tried to get me up and running on the phone, but it wasn't looking good. Took the car in to their shop (super clean! much cleaner than I expected for an auto shop) and they got to work. Repairs were done the next day and we were off and rolling. Prices seemed fair to me for the work they did. I'd much rather go here than some of the grungy and unfriendly shops I've been to in the past. read more

Recently had my truck in to Lone Star to have a broken window riser repaired. I always prefer to have work done at independent shops as opposed to dealerships because they are usually so much less expensive. This does not seem to be the case with Lone Star. I had gotten a quote for work at Rogers Ford here in town to have the serpentine belt replaced and the window riser fixed, thought it was a bit high and called Lone Star. I was told a quote couldn't be given for the work without seeing the truck which was understandable so I dropped the truck off with Lone Star. The next day around closing time I was called with a quote for the job which was $300 HIGHER than Rogers Ford. I told them I would be by to pick up the truck from them and to pay for whatever they were into it and Roger at the front desk informed me that "maybe we can rework the quote a little bit". The following day they called with another quote that was $120 lower than the previous one, still higher than the dealership. At this point I just wanted the truck done with so I reluctantly let them do the work. The work was done in a quality and timely fashion, service was always friendly with me, I have no complaints about any of this. The charges for parts were $103.56 for a serpentine belt which is readily available online at multiple places for $60 and $249.65 for a window regulator which is available all over online for $85. Labor for these items came in at $69.39 just to "diagnose" that my window was in fact broken (duh.... thing wouldn't roll up, it's happened to me before in this truck and I told them exactly what the issue was when I dropped it off), $154.18 in labor to replace the window regulator, 111.02 to replace the serpentine belt (this is literally a 15 minute job that I have done myself previously but I am in Midland away from my tools). The total bill came in just under $700 which is a bit ridiculous for how little work actually needed to be done, but lesson learned. If you are going to have Lone Star work on your vehicle, insist on a quote before they dig into your vehicle, other places can do it, Lone Star needs to be able to as well. To address the previously raised concern of questionable reviews on this place on other sites I would say that this is likely a valid concern. There is a review on this very site written by Roger A., coincidentally the service advisor at Lone Star's name is Roger Albaugh, awfully big coincidence. All in all if you're needing your vehicle fixed Lone Star can get it done the right way, they are just not your average independent shop and you will be taken advantage of as far as the price is concerned. read more

Stay away. They are nice talking and can fix your car, but the prices are WAY too high. Was quoted $900 when an independent mechanic fixed it for $400. Parts are also overpriced. The part I needed was $100 more at Lone Star. Also, they have questionable 5-star reviews on various review websites. Just google their name and you'll see NUMEROUS 5 star reviews that are all written the same. Several of these reviews were posted in the same time frame too. Heck, just look on Yelp under "filtered reviews" and you will see 5-star ratings, from people who only reviewed Lone Star and no other business. Customer service was great, but the price is extremely expensive!!! Don't let the smoke and mirrors fool you. I was having issues with my vehicle- I took it in to see what the problem was- when they came out to tell me- they said they couldn't fully diagnose the problem and that I needed to start by replacing a fan to see if that would solve it. For that stupid piece of information they charged me 140.00 for an issue I already told them I had. Then quoted me 800.00 for the fan- they are not real mechanics- don't expect to pay any less than 800 unless you are getting an oil change. There was another guy getting two new batteries and an oil change- his quote (898.67) Don't waste your money! They are crooks that mark their service and parts -cost plus 60% don't expect a break. Just a quick Update- I managed to figure out the issue with my Fan Motor. A very simple fix that cost me a grand total of $89.50- this pissed me off more knowing that I paid for a diagnostic on my jeep and they still had no idea what the problem was. My boyfriend and I are traveling to North Carolina for a wedding and our car took a dump in Pecos, TX. AAA RECOMMENDED Lone Star as they are on their approve list. Well, Mike took our information and had our car in the garage soon enough. They offered us a drink from their vending machine and everyone who walked by said, 'Hello'. They were nice enough to drive and drop us off at Crackle and Barrel to get something to eat, pick us up and take us back to the office. Mike charged us an inspection fee of $50, gave us a qoute and had our parts shipped out priority over night. They gave us another courtesy drive to a hotel to stay over night and it seemed every hotel was full due to the Oil Rush. Finally booked a room at LaQuinta $169.00 a night. We haven't received a call yet from Lone Star, but Mike said the car should be ready. I'm happy we receive friendly, polite service after going through all that drama and the establishment was clean. I wanted to provide a brief update with regard to a review of an experience several days ago that I wrote. After I expressed my concerns regarding a quote for service costs which was well in excess of quotes I received from other qualified shops, the proprietor (Mark C.) reached out to me and wrote a very detailed and cogent reply from his perspective, and how he viewed the situation. I found this to be refreshing - having been in Midland for only a few years, one of the things I quickly learned was that most customer service in this area is profoundly abysmal. Mark and I exchanged some messages, and I can tell that he really wanted to have me give Lone Star an opportunity to impress me on the repair side - he was very respectful and understanding of my point of view. Though I got the problem for which I originally stopped in repaired elsewhere before he and I interacted, I intend on taking my car into Lone Star the next time it needs service because I am extremely impressed in how I was communicated with. To be sure, I have no problem paying a little bit more for quality (though for the record, the price quoted here was beyond what I would call a "bit more" in this situation), and assuming that Lone Star's price for my next service is reasonable I will pay a little bit more than another shop because of my overall experience and Mark's professionalism. To reiterate my original review, the customer service I received on the day in question was fantastic even though I passed on the repair work. Nothing about this update or the original review should be construed as a customer service issue - that has been outstanding. read more

I asked if I dropped my car off first thing on Thursday if they could have it ready to go by end of day and was assured they could. Dropped it off at 8:05 and called at 1:08 to see where they were on it. Told it had just been looked at by mechanic but he had left for lunch and they would call me right back when he returned. I waited a couple of hours and fell asleep, waking after closing time. I couldn't have been happier with the Service I was provided at Lone Star Automotive. I was in Midland visiting family when I hit a pot hole causing damage to my radiator and air conditioner. I was basically stuck with avehicle that I could not drive home. My car could only go so far before it would overheat. So I went to the nearest garage. So Lone Star Automotive it was. The service that I got could only be describes as Fantastic. I was in a bind and they knew it. I also let them know that I was needing to head home. Instead of taking advantage of my situation they went above and beyond to assist me. To my amazement, they were able to get the parts and complete the repairs that day. It took them three days and $140 to give us a $10,000 estimate to repair our Jeep. That quote didn't include front alignment or the new tires they said we needed also. They said they would get it fixed but they had our car for more than a month and did not offer a rental car or offer a discount for the inconvenience. I was in Midland recently, for a delivery from Dallas, when my car broke down. The estimate was $325, to change the oil, and run diagnostics, and to run a compression check. After changing the oil 3 times, they were unable to diagnose the problem? Then they estimated it would cost $2400., without being able to be sure that would correct the problem! I refused to have the work done, had to drive back to Midland, to tow my car back to Dallas, Lone Star's charged me $471 dollars, left my car in the parking lot with a dead battery, and someone spit on my dash? Very nice, Wouldn't recommend this rip off place to my worst enemy, thanks a lot Roger. read more

Triple AAA recommended Lone Star Automotive so I had my 2011 Mustang towed to their shop to have my clutch system replaced and I was expecting a price of around $1500 due to the fact that the last 2 clutch replacements averaged about $1400 to $1600 so I was floored when Roger gave me an estimate of over $3300 and when I questioned the high price he said labor was a little over $1000 plus the parts that were needed. So the parts must be over $2000 and there is NO WAY.....NO WAY they should even come close to this much. I can purchase a complete clutch kit for around $600 and it includes everything that is needed for the repair. I declined to have the repair made and asked what they would charge if I supplied my own parts (which would be brand new) and Roger said that they DO NOT ALLOW THAT and its shop policy they supply all parts. Never thought the price of the repair would even come close to $3300. Overpriced and the girls answering the phone are rude as well. read more

You have to read to end to appreciate. My 1st impression was a. it is AAA recommended, b. Always seems busy, c. It looks well organized. Well these are factors that do entice you to come in the door. And yes you are met with extreme courtesy. Admittedly I didn't do my research on this place. It is a beautiful office and comfortable. I was told they had a few in front of mine but was willing to wait knowing just how busy things are in the area now. Well any way I received a call from the technician twice asking me the circumstances that led up to my vehicles stall. He called me back later and gave me good news that it wasn't anything major and had it running and wasn't able to get it to repeat what it had done. I had explained to him that i had been doing some service myself earlier that day and had disconnected the ground from the battery. The second time he called after he said he had it running he said he had found a bad ground connection to the computer. Thus the reason why I had removed the ground was to prevent stray voltage. He also pointed out some other issues with the vehicle. He said the front guy would work up the bill and call me. I must say the technician was an awesome guy to talk with and he did sort out my problem. Next day i got a call from the service advisor and that the technician had spent 5.78 hours in diagnosis. I said ok and he also to me of the other issues concerning my vehicle. I asked for the price and he said I am only going to charge you for 5 hours. I thanked him and then he told me cost. Let me first tell you what was replaced, the bolt going through the negative ground lead. Its cost $9.90. A bit high yes but I know they work on profit. Next was a shop supplies fee for $57.25. For what supplies where needed to do this repair? "A rag, some terminal cleaner, shop air etc." I know the terminals weren't too bad i had just cleaned them myself. And now for the anticipated diagnosis fee all the while knowing they work on a profit margin just like us all, remember they did credit me the.78 of an hour it might not be too awful bad. Labor to diagnosis and replace a battery lead fastener, wait for it. $840.72 US Dollars. So I asked the Service Advisor what is the charge per hour. They explained that they work off a sheet for certain services. That's $168 per hour. Well rather than lose my cool and paid the exorbitant charge and mad a conscience decision to scratch Lone Star Automotive in Midland from my recommendation list. They do what they say agreed but they charge way too much for their service period. read more
