Took 2hr guided horseback ride, June 2026. Guide was very nice, experienced, and interesting. Good horses and the ride was beautiful. We own horses and ride quite often so we are harder to really please but it was a wonderful pleasure. And so nice to go through almost 5 miles without coming across anyone else - almost like a backcountry experience. We plan to go again. We almost carried rain gear but did not. I loved the book, so I felt like it was meant to be when I was googling trail rides and this place came up. You don't have to be a guest at the ranch in order to come by for trail rides, which is nice. Also, I liked that they offer 1 hour trail rides, when a lot of other places offer 2 hour trail rides (they do 2 and 3 hour trail rides here as well though). I called the day before I wanted to go, and thankfully Malia had a spot available for two adults at 1pm. The price was $70 per person for a 1 hour trail ride which I thought was very reasonable, especially since it ended up just being us two and Malia on the ride. When we arrived, finding the ranch was super easy as well as the parking situation. It was a bit harder for us to figure out which building to go to in order to check in, but then we saw the office sign. The staff was really friendly, and we got to walk around the cafeteria and store and check out the memorabilia on the walls. Malia greeted us and we signed the waiver, and then we headed over to the horses. We rode Río and Sugar Plum, while Malia rode Clara. It was my first time doing a trail ride, and Malia answered all my questions and she and Río made my first trail riding experience incredible. During our ride, we saw the ranch's bison as well as a couple deer. We also stopped in a meadow where Malia offered to take our photo. If any visitor wants a paved road, WiFi in their tents and indoor plumbing, they shall go elsewhere. But if you want to experience semi "rustic living" in the great outdoors, LONESOME DOVE is for you. The road to this resort is dusty in summer and snowy in winter, which should turn back "posers". Not us! We stayed in a tent (with a wooden floor, not dirt as Native Americans had). Two twin beds had a lot of bed covers, so though temperature dropped to low fifties at night, we were cozy and comfortable. Tent interior was clean, artful and hospitable. The port-a-pottie required sort of a hike, especially if need arises in mid of night, but also clean and well maintained. We saw deer, bison and plenty of birds around. Ranch also offers horses for trail rides. Main building had the usual souvenirs for the traveler to buy. Eating area had walls covered in photos of authentic cowboys and Indians (although I don't call John Wayne an authentic cowboy...) . Breakfast menu was extensive, portions heaping, hot and really filling. We did not got opportunity to try dinner menu, but believe it was similarly good. Staff was really helpful and attentive. Montana is quite far from our home, but if road will ever take us back to Kalispell, we definitely will be happy campers yet again! read more

I booked a 2 night stay in one of the teepees for my husband & I with our friend that was visiting us from out of state The whole trip was for to celebrate her completing round 2 of her battle with breast cancer. The lonesome dove stay was meant to be the last send off before she boarded a train to head back home. Unfortunately the weekend before she slipped while we were visiting the badlands & broke her leg. Doctors set it but wanted her to see an orthopedic surgeon back home ASAP. She's afraid to fly & didn't feel comfortable taking the train with her now limited mobility. We opted to use our planned vacation time to drive her home to WA from WY. Because of this I reached out to the property to request an exemption to the no refunds policy. When they denied that I requested to just change the dates. Even offered for the property to suggest a weekend during they're slow months. I sent this request multiple times with no response. While the ranch looked fun the owners proved to be difficult to say the least. Trip is now fully canceled. I'm out $300. Will never consider booking with them ever again. read more

I highly enjoyed my time at Lonesome Dove Guest Ranch. I had just completed a glorious week long voyage to Glacier and Waterton National Parks. Before flying home the following day, I decided to try spending the night here, in the outdoors, well off the beaten path outside the town of Kalispell....in a rustic little teepee. I discovered this place on Expedia and was surprised how cheap it was, $48 for the evening. I thought....since I enjoy nature and go out of my way to stay in cabins wherever I travel, why not try a teepee! On all my trips, I have never stayed in something quite like this. Ultimately, I think I was mesmerized by the thought of having a "made for ready tent" and was quite excited for the experience. Well, this teepee was everything I could have asked for. Although I was traveling alone, it had 2 fully furnished twin beds. This was a pleasant surprise considering a lot of the cabins I stay at don't even provide any bedding, blankets or pillows. Although I have been warned me in the past about this, for someone like myself traveling by plane, I can't just lug along bedding. Regardless, my bed was real comfortable. I was also provided extra blanketing because it got cold at night. Another good aspect was....they left me 2 towels for showering and rinsing up. In all....I was satisfied. Considering northern Montana is quite a tourist and vacation destination during summertime, $48 for the night was by far....the lowest rate going around. For being in Kalispell, Montana....not too far away from majestic Glacier NP, this rate was a bargain. The Guest Ranch was wonderful. When I arrived in late afternoon, I checked in. They sell snacks, beverages, supplies and anything you may need during your stay. I was shown to my teepee. The grounds have animals all around. An area for horses, cows, chickens....they even housed 2 buffalo! For anyone who appreciates animals, this place is for you. You can pay to do horseback riding around the ranch. In all, the vibe was refreshingly mellow and tranquil. Although Lonesome Dove is located maybe 15 minutes from downtown Kalispell, it felt like I was miles from society. There were virtually no guests staying here with me. I felt like I had the entire ranch to myself. After checking in....I certainly walked around, explored the surroundings and said hello to the animals. My teepee was situated in the rear section of the ranch. There were about 4 teepees lined up next to each other. And....the teepees were exactly what you'd expect. You have to crawl to get inside them. And you have a hanging cloth "as your door" to enter and exit. No frills whatsoever. I had no issues falling asleep at night. It was peaceful. They have BBQ pits to cook food. Also nearby were cabins for those who prefer a little more of a homely setting. There was a porter potty right next to the group of teepees. But....you can walk down a dirt path beside the buffalo pen and eventually come upon men's and women's shared bathrooms, toilets and sinks. The walk to this outhouse/shack is a simple 10 minute stroll. In case anyone cares, the shower worked fine w/ plenty of running hot water. The toilets were normal, lol... and the sinks ran just fine. Btw, they do provide lanterns in case you come here after dark and need lighting as you walk to the outhouses. The staff offer home cooked breakfast in the morning. It was mentioned how delicious their breakfasts were. Unfortunately I had to be awake early for my flight home, so I never made it to breakfast. Overall...I was genuinely happy I chose to stay here at the Lonesome Dove Guest Ranch. After finishing my final day at Glacier.....coming here, relaxing during sunset, taking in the fresh air, hanging out with the animals and immersing myself in the outdoorsy woods of this place made for a special finale towards my trip. For me (who's a straightforward person), I'm so grateful I had the chance to stay in such a unique setting along with sleeping in a teepee for the first time. I highly recommend to folks out there who don't need luxury, to absolutely come here and visit. It's a worthwhile experience. read more

We booked this place last minute and it was the best decision. We arrived late at about 1230am well after the 7pm check in. They accommodated us, extremely helpful and great staff. Delicious hot home made skillet breakfast in the morning. Thought it would get cold throughout the night but there were plenty of blankets provided. As others have mentioned this is a working ranch, so if you have any questions or need to talk to a person they are very abrupt and a little rude. That being said, check in was easy and it's a beautiful area. We stayed in the teepee which had 2 twin beds and a night stand. There wasn't any electricity but they give you a small lantern. Breakfast is included in the price and it was worth the wait (but be prepared to wait an hour). They have some preserves that they make there that are really good too. The bathroom was clean but there is only one stall (single toilet, single shower) each for men and women that is shared with all the other tents and cabins. We stayed a night but had a great time relaxing. read more

The cabin was nicely decorated, and had decent accommodations. The 3-star review is due to lack of professionalism. We notified the front desk of an early check-in a few days prior to our arrival. Upon check-in we were told our cabin was not ready. The bed had not been made. We dropped our bags off and headed to a wedding...we were told the bed would be made by the time we returned. We returned close to 11pm, and the bed was still unmade. We slept on scratchy wool blankets that night. The next morning we wanted to check out early, but the front desk did not open until 8am. This was very inconvenient for us. Positives of the stay - clean cabin. Quiet grounds. Resident buffalo. Lots of cute bunnies. Cabin and teepee options. Complementary breakfast starting at 8am. We stayed here this past weekend at the end of our trip to Montana to visit Glacier National Park, thinking it would be nice to spend our last night in a real bed--in a tipi no less! We weren't sure what to expect, but this place was phenomenal! The tipi was very cute and comfortable, the staff was so friendly and accommodating, the included breakfast was AMAZING, and the property itself was so beautiful and relaxing. We decided, somewhat last minute, to do a trail ride during our stay, and they accommodated us readily. Robin took us out on the trail and was such a friendly and fun person to talk to, it was a fantastic experience. I could not recommend this place any higher. If we are ever back in the area, and I hope we are, I wouldn't think twice about staying here again. read more

Amazing, peaceful place. All staff and owners were so welcoming and encouraged a "family" type experience. My husband and I both work stressful jobs and were seeking a day away from chaos. Lonesome Dove was just that place. We enjoyed a delicious made to order breakfast and good conversation with other guests in the quaint dining room. I stayed in one of the tipis, and the price was the best in Kalispell for the time I was there. I called them because I wouldn't be arriving until after the regular check-out time, and they happily stayed until I got there at 9pm. The tipi was clean and comfortable. For the price you are paying for the tipi, you can't expect it to be extravagant, luxurious glamping experience. But it was still a great place to stay, and provided from a fun ambience. The owners had two bison on the site, as well as cattle and horses. The included breakfast in the morning was very good, and ordered off a menu. I recommend the huckleberry pancakes! read more

Stayed here with a few other families of friends for a soccer tournament. Figured it would be fun for the kids and relaxing. We booked the wall tent, some other friends stayed in a couple tipis and one got a cabin. All sleeping accommodations were fine! We rolled in after dark and setting up was a pain, as lanterns that were supplied had dead batteries, but turned on the headlights and we were again, fine. Owner SCREAMED at our kids to stay away from the buffalo! They were playing hide and seek somewhat near the pen as it's by the road and unavoidable. Because it was so dark, she didn't know we were also there supervising. She told us in the morning she was sorry, but they "were trying to climb in the pen." This was most definitely NOT true. A.)There was an electric fence. B.)Our kids are Montanans, they know better and don't have a death wish. She was just tired and overly crabby. Again, we were still fine. Good breakfast! Aside from the gnats in the creamer and the dirty plate my bacon was brought on... still fine! The real problems started after breakfast... in the ranch style bathroom for the "outdoor guests." No shower, the ONE shower head was covered with plastic and stall was full of boxes. No running water anywhere except the toilet. No toilet paper! That was NOT FINE! We had games to get to and attend the rest of the day. None of us got showers, had to brush our teeth in the grass with bottled water that we thankfully had on hand. That was the last straw. We went into the office and asked if we could please get a refund for our second night, we were going to stay in town that night, due to the lack of necessities. The lady tried to find the owner, she couldn't, so she said yes, apologized and said it should all be fixed if we changed our minds and wanted to come back that night. It was opening weekend for them and due to extenuating circumstances, they just weren't quite ready for guests. Turned out the owner's husband had a heart attack a few days before and was going to be fine, but was still in the hospital. We politely declined and said maybe we'd try them again some other time, but we really needed to be guaranteed a bathroom! She totally understood and apologized again. WE NEVER GOT THE REFUND WE WERE PROMISED. The owner told our friends (the ones in the cabin) later that night, after we had gone, that we wouldn't be getting a refund, as everything was fixed that evening and she had nothing to apologize for. We were never contacted. Pricing was just as much as any 3 star hotel in Kalispell. Not only should we have been refunded for second entire night, but if she had a shred of decency, she would have also refunded half of the first night, since we only got half of what we were guaranteed upon booking. A bathroom is NOT too much to ask for when you're paying $80 some bucks a night to sleep in a tent. Don't waste your money here! Owner is rude and dishonest. I know she was going through some tough stuff personally, but she should have taken responsibility and treated her business customers fairly! read more

My wife and I recently went out for a 2 hour trail ride here and it was probably the best part of our vacation. The sights were absolutely stunning, the guide was both knowledgeable and friendly and the ranch staff were amazing. Add the fact that the ranch uses rescue horses that they pull out of bad situations and rehabilitate and that we had wildlife literally crossing our path the whole ride and I can't think of a better way to see Montana's beauty than from the back of a horse at the Lonesome Dove. I stumbled upon this place looking for things to do in Montana on trip advisor, I wanted to do some horse back riding and after finding out more that it was also a B&B i decided to book a room. The horseback ride was great, i had Shania and she has a great personality that made the ride even better. There was lot of deer to be spotted along the way. After the ride we had Dinner, this home made dinner was so good i wish i was having some right now. Sharron is a great cook and host with stories to tell. It was nice to have a family type dinner with other guest getting to know each other a bit. Breakfast was great with homemade jam that they sell I will definitely stay again or even just stop back by to buy some of their bread when i pass through that way again. Our family went on a 2+ hour horse ride at Lonesome and we has a blast! To be honest, we wanted to do a horse ride but some of the other ranches online were full on this summer Saturday morning. But we found Lonesome online. The ranch is immaculate - despite being a working ranch. The entire crew was friendly and happy. We didn't stay the night or have a meal but we saw many breakfasts served prior to our horse ride. Our family wished we had come earlier for a home-cooked skillet breakfast or huckleberry pancakes because everything looked and smelled amazing! If you're planning on just a horse ride, come early and have breakfast! There's a small gift shop that has really nice food mixes that are made onsite. We took a couple bread mixes and some huckleberry honey home. We haven't tried them yet but we're optimistic! The horse crew did a great job. Our 2 kids under 10 had a great time (my wife and I did too) - and the horse crew took great care of them. We're happy we checked them out! read more

We signed up for the tipi. We knew we would be "roughing it" but this is not what we expected. We knew in advance that we would have a shared restroom but ONE restroom (like one sink, one toilet and one shower) for upwards of 15 + guests is ridiculous. (Is this even sanitary?) There is one restroom for both men and women. We were told the women's restroom was almost completed (but not in time for our trip). And the (one) restroom was hell and gone from the sleeping areas (not convenient at 2:00 am on an unknown trail). Besides the restroom issue, the facility did not deliver on what was promised. For example, there is supposedly a bar where one can have a drink, but it was closed since it hadn't been stocked. (Why not? It is summer, isn't it?) Breakfast hours were advertised as 8:00 and instead it was 8:30 (no biggie). And it advertises "glamping in our tipi village", but glamping to me means like when you're at a campsite and there is water and electric for your RV. There was no common water (like a water faucet or pump) near the tipi area to wash your hands or anything. There was only the sink in the bathroom (which I mentioned was grossly inconvenient.) So no water here - even campsites have water! And no electric. Forget charging your phone or IPad or whatever. I asked about charging my phone and I was told I can plug it in at the building where the lobby is located. Outside plug. And you have to stand there while it charges. It was so bad we couldn't stay there and promptly booked a hotel. read more

Saw mice in the kitchen. Rumors reach the guests that they don't pay their employees, which makes sense given the condition of the place and the rudeness of the owners. Heard to many tomes while staying there that the owner doesn't refund anybody for any reason. Just got a bad scammers vibe from this place and wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. Great place to stay. We stayed in a cabin and it was nice. The farm atmosphere was great for our suburban kid. Nice trail ride. Maybe a little rough around the edges, but a fun family place with great breakfast. Mich more character than a motel - they even have a buffalo. read more
