The hotel itself is a 2 star experience but once you factor in staff services it's a 1 star. The remodel was half hearted and I'll bullet point all my problems with this one night stay in an Executive Room. - Parking fee is $12, website says $10 - Room descriptions inaccurate including bed types and number of TVs. - Odd dirty smell in room and bathroom - No clock, drapes, iron or board, coffee pot, safe, closet, dresser or any type of hanging racking for clothes in room. - Shower floor not level, resulting in water pooling to one corner where it stayed all night. This might explain odd, dirty smell. - Moth inside sheets of king bed, discovered at bed time after pulling sheets back. - No sheets on sofa bed or anywhere in room. Asked front desk for sheets when headed out for dinner, they offered to have housekeeping put sheets on but we declined and asked to get them upon my return. Housekeeping entered room anyway even with do not disturb on door. - TV didn't work nor did telephone when I tried calling down for tech support. - Walk downstairs to ask about TV, given instructions how to reset box but even that didn't work. Asked to move rooms but they were booked up. When I asked for discount, they offered $25 off a $350 rate. I asked for larger discount but was told manager must approve and they'd follow up with me but no one did and no discount provided at all. Later front desk clerk came to room, unplugged and plugged in new cords to get TV working. - Thin walls and windows, heard traffic and drunks leaving the bar across street late into the night and if it's a Wednesday morning you'll hear a dump truck at 6:20am. Through all this never even an apology from any staffer. read more

Sweet historic restored hotel on Kalispell's Main Street. Lobby is decorated with a nice mix of paintings, western style furniture (antlers), and statues. Front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable. Rooms are tidy and clean. No refrigerators but they have coolers available on loan which worked out well. Very quiet at night. Continental breakfast has interesting options besides the usual like quiche and baked oatmeal. Fresh baked cookies and popcorn in the evenings. Parking is free. We arrived in Montana for an extra night ahead of a week long reservation elsewhere. I booked this old hotel because frankly it just seemed charming. I really hate we only had one night there though because it was just super satisfying. Cookies and popcorn at check-in and the luxury of an elevator to our room, which isn't always the case with old properties. The lobby is massive and has been decorated with the best mix of antiques and rustic modern pieces. There are even Chesterfield sofas...my fave! The rooms are a bit small, but that was expected knowing it is an older property. Everything was super clean, even the bathroom grout which is one of my pet peeves. ;) I read that there was a continental breakfast, which sounded underwhelming, so we had planned to go out for a bite. One look at the spread though and we decided to stay. Quiche, yogurts, fresh baked pastries, cereals, juices, and some breads and spreads went way beyond 'continental'. Everything was tasty and we had a nice chat with the sweet girl at the desk who was doing that job and keeping the bar restocked. So happy we decided to give this sweet, local spot a try! As of July 2023, this hotel is under heavy construction. There is no lobby. Literally -You proceed only via a 2-person elevator (no stairs available to access lobby) to the 2nd floor to check in. This is an older style hotel - which I appreciate and even my own home was built in the 1880's. What's off is that the rooms feel in a state of refurbishment that isn't quite there - while there is fresh paint and generally they are clean, there are missing light fixtures' hardware sticking out of the ceiling, visible wear/tear on furniture (dorm style furniture, dressers in hallway as a sideboard), water damage in bathroom, etc. As with many older places, there is no central air conditioning. A window-mounted AC unit is installed, however it makes for a very hot arrival to your room as it is turned off. It is also pretty loud, so if you do aspire to watch a TV show to unwind you'll either have to crank up the volume to irritate neighbors or just watch without east to decipher sound. I would not recommend this hotel. It may be wildly different in the future, but at present it is hostel-grade amenities for price point that you could / should just stay at a Best Western or nicer. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this hotel! If you like charming historic hotels, this is definitely your place! Our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast in the morning is homemade quiche and pastries along with coffee, and a variety of juices. The staff working here are the best people I have ever encountered working in a hotel. They were all super friendly and helpful. We were talking with one of them the night before checkout. We had to leave at 5am and we asked them if it was possible to get a piece of the quiche before we left as breakfast is normally served beginning at 5:30am. They told us "No problem. We'll leave a note and have breakfast ready at 4:30am". When we got downstairs a few minutes before 5am, breakfast was all set up! So nice! The quiche is delicious and they will give you the recipe if you ask them for it. I would only stay here the next time I am in Kalispell. read more

Our room was very cold even with thermostat turned to 85. The staff was very nice and provided extra blankets but the room was uncomfortably cold. Very loud street noise at night, trucks and cars racing with loud music and speeding down the road, going around the block over and over. Not sure I'll stay here again. read more

As the hotel is not a bad place, the road noise is ridiculous. The locals race up and down the road straight in front of the hotel and across the street is the eagles and they party all night. Kept us up all night. The hotel was clean. Pretty dated and our tv didn't work the first night but sits so low I couldn't see it while laying in bed anyways. No fridge no microwave no closet. Lights has to all be turn on individually. Place was clean and the handed out popcorn at night that was a nice touch. It was cold popcorn but kids thought it was neat. Nice location to walk to plenty of places to eat. But I doubt we ever go back. read more

Our room was hot when we arrived and the breakfast was not good. All for the same price as the 5 star bed and breakfast we stayed at. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. We were excited to happen upon the Kalispell Grand Hotel after a day of exploring Glacier Park. Even better; the front desk clerk said it had been really quiet in the hotel. I am super-sensitive to noise and this made my day. I don't know about my day, but my night was ruined. Between the street noise from around the window A/C unit, the drunk and loud dudes on the street below our window, the either deaf peeps in the room next to us or paper-thin walls that allowed me to hear every word on their TV, and the constant banging and slamming of doors followed by what could only be elephants running and lumbering up and down the hallways, this was the loudest hotel I have ever stayed in. Had any store been open past 9pm, I would have bought some wine or whiskey to knock myself out. Even with the special, it was still too high a price. read more

There was a 4-day power outage in the Flathead Valley this month (meaning no heat, no water, and no light for 4 days in mid-January...not a good time!) After "toughing it out" the first night, I knew it was going to be too cold to stay at home until power was restored. I therefore had to find last-minute accommodations for myself AND my 7 month-old Rottweiler puppy. I am SO pleased the stars aligned to have me stay at the Kalispell Grand. First of all, every single person on staff at the hotel is absolutely lovely. Each one of the women who helped me (from reservation all the way to check-out) was beyond accommodating - not only for me, but also for my puppy. They greeted us excitedly (more excited for the dog than for me, but I don't blame them :) and my puppy actually ended up playing with the resident "top dog" - an old fella named Buddy, who was very patient with her puppy energy. I was given the key to my room - an ACTUAL key, mind you! Not a keycard...a good old-fashioned physical key! - and was placed in a perfect room on the third floor, directly across from the stairs for easy puppy potty access. Upon check-in, they provide a little leaflet with the history of the hotel, and it is definitely worth the read. The place truly is a Montana gem - beautifully maintained and updated as needed, without losing any of its original early-1900's charm. The hotel is perfectly situated right in the heart of downtown Kalispell, so there's no need to drive anywhere - which is great, because they also have free guest parking in a lot right behind the hotel. The hotel staff took every possible precaution in light of the current pandemic, while still maintaining an incredible level of hospitality. They provided a continental breakfast every morning, complete with homemade baked goods (recipes available upon request!), coffee, toast, yogurt, and fresh fruit - everything carefully packaged in its own individual bag/bowl/cup, so it was safe to enjoy. And enjoy I did! The second night of my stay, I was looking for restaurant recommendations. Ellie at the front desk was super knowledgable about options in the area, and incredibly helpful - after raving about one of the nearby BBQ restaurants, she reached behind her like a magician and produced the menu for me to peruse! Her enthusiasm was completely warranted - I ended up going to that BBQ restaurant, and it was also AMAZING (but that's a topic for a different review!) All in all, if you're visiting Kalispell, or simply need a place to stay during a winter time power-outage, I highly recommend staying at the Kalispell Grand. From its historical roots to the carefully curated amenities and amazingly accommodating staff, it's hard not to be impressed. The whole experience was a reminder that hospitality is an art, and the women who run The Kalispell Grand are doing an incredible job of preserving that art in the most Montana-warm and friendly way. :-) read more

I just returned from a wonderful stay at Kalispell Grand Hotel. This was a great place to stay. The staff are terrific- really friendly and helpful. The hotel is a testament to time and the finer things of an age past. The room was very comfortable- nice bathroom- and warm. I loved the special touches the hotel puts out- amazing continental breakfast in the morning- coffee all day long, and wonderful home made bakery items in the afternoon and evening (I probably took more than my fair share- they are incredible). I'm going back next month- and I'll be at the Kalispell Grand! read more

This hotel has been in business for over a hundred years. But somewhere in the late 80s early 90s they renovated all the rooms to not have a shared bathroom at the end of the hallway. All the rooms are modern-ish with their own bathroom comfortable beds. This place oozes old hotel charm. It comes with a fun continental breakfast. You can get coffee and a delicious homemade cookie in the afternoon when you check in or coming back from the day of the adventures. read more

I really hate to give the Grand only 3 stars. Here's the deal: very nice renovation of a 1912 hotel. Could use a little less stencil work in the bathrooms (I prefer a cleaner, more Craftsman vibe) but really nice room, super clean, bathroom small but everything in good working order, room had a little desk. Nice towels, free popcorn and yummy cookies, and they accept pets. Which is all well and good, unless said pets are someone's FOUR dogs. Most hotels that allow animals do not allow guests to leave them in the room unattended. Having the dogs down the hall was like sleeping at the local ASPCA shelter. The front desk attendant valiantly attempted to reach the owners of the pooches, to no avail and the howling and barking continued well after 10 pm. We were informed that the mutts were staying the next two nights so we checked out after only one night of a planned 3 night stay. Moral of this Yelp? The Grand needs a standard "you can't leave the mutts in the room" policy. Other than the dog pound, this was a super cool historic hotel, reasonably priced, but can't give 4 stars, doggone it! read more

But, it's a 100 year old Hotel in a preserved historic district near some great restaurants ( see my "Hops" review ) and shopping with excellent friendly service clean rooms, newly restored or replaced carpets , tile, wood etc. tons of character and nice small touches like the fresh baked cookies or popcorn that's brought out to the lobby afternoon or the local artist painting in the elevator lobby with her paintings up, it's more like leaving the hotel lobby entering a small art gallery that happens to have an elevator Loved this place read more

Very nice hotel! We stayed here Tuesday night on way home from Canmore,AB and this was perfect town to stop in for the night, and the Kalispell Grand Hotel is well worth staying here! Its a older hotel, built in 1912 with old time charm to it. The only drawback I had is the elevators are rather small, just enough size for a luggage cart and ONE person, with another person its a tight squeeze, so they would be better off using the stairs. The room itself, is cozy and "cute" and has a nice charm to it, the room we got though, the view looking outside the window was horrible, but probably not much they could do about that- basically you were seeing the roof top of the building next door. The bathroom was ok, its a stand up shower. and they give you normal house type keys,not the new tech keys other places have. Overall, If your passing through Kalispell, I would MOST CERTAINLY recommend this place! read more

I LOVE this place. It feels like a home away from home. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and YES the decor is a little bit 90's update, but the STAFF is what makes it jump leaps and bounds over the competition. When you walk in you are greeted by friendly clerks and it doesn't matter what time you get there, there are homemade cookies. And these cookies are from the owner's personal recipe. I know because I asked. The rooms are small, but you are at a historic hotel, and the amenities are modern in all the ways that count. The morning buffet is perfect, homemade quiche, fruit, yogurt, etc. and the clerk at the front desk takes the time to get to know you. It doesn't matter if your flight is a red eye, if you say you are getting up at 3 am, then the clerk goes out of her way to make sure breakfast is ready for you. I stayed at the Grand for two nights at the end of August 2013. I stayed one night at the start of my trip and one night before heading to the airport at the crack of dawn to head home. First, the staff were friendly and accommodating. I arrived the first night late, exhausted, and hungry. The girl at the front desk went out of her way to heat up a piece of quiche for me that was in the fridge for the next day's complimentary breakfast spread. They also had tea, coffee, water, popcorn, and cookies out for snacking which was a nice touch. On the day we left for our early morning flight, they had put the breakfast food out early just for us. It was like staying with family. Second, the room was clean, affordable, and the bed in the first room was comfortable (the mattress in the second room I stayed in was sunken in and not as comfortable). My only complaints about both rooms were that I could hear the people in the room above me walking around and slamming doors late at night and early in the morning. Also, the A/C unit is pointed right at the beds and there was no way to direct the air away from them. I wanted the air but I didn't want it blowing in my face all night. Third, I love the location of this hotel. It really is in the middle of everything we wanted to do in Northern Montana. I also liked that I could leave my car parked and just walk around town to the cute shops and the yummy restaurants. All in all I would definitely stay at the Grand again. I prefer non-chain hotels to begin with and I don't mind a bit of quirkiness. Plus, the price is right, the people are nice, and it's clean. read more

We made a reservation here at the last minute, and it turned out great. The staff are great, and the continental breakfast is excellent (I don't know if it is, but nearly everything feels homemade and not at all like a generic chain hotel continental breakfast). The are free cookies in the afternoon and evening, a very nice lounge and dining area, and they gave us a perfect restaurant recommendation for dinner. Our room was small; they warned us ahead of time and offered us a larger one, but we were only staying one night. It was perfectly clean and decorated like my middle-class grandmother's house in the late 90's. I mean that in the best possible way. Overall, I'm very happy we stayed there, and will check there first next time we're in the area. read more

The place is old but there was no 'old hotel' smell in the rooms or hallway. kudo's to the cleaning staff! They welcome pets (which is great) and yet you'd think no pet ever stepped a paw in your room. The rooms were very clean. * beautiful towels - very white and new. With a family of 5 we went through lots of towels and they were always replenished and looked great. * cookies - someone said they make cookies in "the afternoon" but during our stay they never really stopped making them - even well into the evening (Chocolate chip and Peanut Butter). * located in the heart of the historical downtown * postcards AND STAMPS - sold in the lobby * AAA discount Cautions: * This is not anything against the hotel but since it is located on Main street there is obviously some street noise. It is not a big deal but if you are a light sleeper then you might bring ear-plugs. * Lobby popcorn is unfortunately of the microwave variety. Not a deal-breaker but air-popped would have been much better. We enjoyed the Western store next door and the antique mall downstairs. It is an easy drive to Glacier Nat'l Park which we did twice during our stay. We highly recommend this hotel. read more

Our room was a family suite that fit our family of 5 perfect. We love the older hotels filled with history. The beds were very comfy and I've got the worlds worst back yet woke up feeling great! Centrally located on the old Main Street with many neat shops and yummy restaurants with in walking distance. Great for kids. Amazing helpful staff! I had the pleasure of staying at Grand Hotel during my voyage to Glacier Nat'l Park with Mr. Hottie and Erin G. This quaint hotel is along the main street in Kalispell. When we walked in we were greeted and check in was very quick. This hotel is old. It reminded me of an old saloon that was converted into a hotel. Well after reading up on the hotel, I discovered it was established in 1912. So imagine a wooden building with creaky floors and a cozy feel. The rooms are old and small and haven't been updated very much. If you're looking for a modern feel, you won't get it here. The rooms are reminiscent of horse and buggy days gone by, tidy, and cozy. When we went out in the morning, we were offered a continental breakfast that was delicious! We had our choice of cereals, toast, fruit, coffee, teas, and the highlight: Fresh baked goods. I had a peach pound cake that was to die for! It was a perfect way to carb up before a long day in Glacier. As far as logistics, you still have about a 30 to 45 minute drive to get to Glacier Nat'l Park, but it's a great hotel to make a base camp. It even has a spa (which I didn't have time enjoy) to work out those tight muscles at the end of a hike. I would visit Grand Hotel again!
