Go see a ballet or an opera at The Long Center! My treat, except you are paying... Hands down a very fun experience. I've seen Madame Butterfly (Opera) and Grimm Tales (Ballet) so far. Pro Tip: The Long Center has the best view of the city. Very picturesque. 10/10 Arias

First time going not a single problem getting to my seat and any questions I had the usher answered successfully. Well drinks were really great too fast service even before the show last minute I'm telling you they work diligently very great people to, hilarious. ambience was beautiful. I could never get over the orchestra being at the bottom everything was so beautiful. Best Christmas experience.

The Long Center hosts free "Drop In" outdoor concerts all summer long from May 22 - August 14 on the Thursdays at 7:00pm. Each week is a different musician. The first Drop In of 2025 featured Brownout, an American Latin-funk band from Austin. A side project of Groupon Fantasmo, they were fantastic! You can sign up online for tickets on their website, or just show up. RSVPs open every Monday at 10am. They email you with a direct link to the ticket and QR code. You can also buy a membership for $120, which gives you early entrance to the venue, access to the Members Lounge, free popcorn, premier seating, and a free t-shirt. There are several food trucks and lines for drinks. Though it gets very crowded, it doesn't take long to get checked in.

A great function at the Ballet Austin, the closing of our season tickets featured the tragic-romantic story of Romeo and Juliet in a great production They had themed cocktails and the ladies are always servicial and helpful. Pro-tip: attend 1 hour early for the Footlights, which are fun facts about the production and history of the show displayed. #balletaustin #RomeoAndJuliet #longcenter

Short and sweet review- but wanted to show this venue and organization some love! I haven't been inside yet, but was very impressed with the "drop in" Thursday night outdoor concert series! Easy parking ($10), friendly check in, and a fun free night out! The staff were all friendly and they had refillable water stations, food trucks, bars, games, etc. We loved overlooking the city skyline at night time with the great local music. This is an awesome free event! We can't wait for the next one!

Sxsw seeing Uvadale mom. It should be a good movie. Comfortable seats. I am looking forward to hearing from her . Great seats near the front.

As the receptionist said, 'we lucked out!' I got the dates wrong for the show and arrived 1 day late. Guess what?! They gave us two free tickets to the current show and we swear they were the best seats in the house! It was perfect! Never have I ever sat in better seats! I was swept away by the Nutcracker performance, and my husband was able to reminisce about his time as a boy seeing his stepmother on stage (as a professional ballerina with Ballet Austin)

Review for the ice rink- Love that they have an ample number of skating aids. The staff had to work hard keeping the ice from melting in this bizarre heatwave. Really love the location and decorations. We'll be back.

I came here last night with The Things to see "Poe: A Tale of Madness" for a private showing. This work by Stephen Mills explores the haunted life and works of celebrated author Edgar Allan Poe. This work is visually stunning, beautifully danced, and choreographed, and the musical score by the Austin symphony is akin to the best movie scores created. The dancers, "Poe" - Paul Martin, "Raven" - Ian J. Bethany, "Madeline Usher" - Vivien Farrell, "Death" - Edward Carr brought this piece to life with their precise pirouettes, jetés, passés, pliés and raw emotion. This ballet tells the story of Poe's life (in flashbacks and current day) as he writes what come to be some of the best literary works of the current day. Through dance and music, audiences will see Poe's descent into an unstable state as he becomes consumed by his writing. This is a must-see! Regarding the venue itself, it is clean and there isn't a bad seat in the house. There are beverages for purchase in the lobby area and people who work at the venue who will escort you to your seat if you are not familiar with the location. The view from the outside is spectacular. it's truly an unobstructed view of the Austin skyline. Parking the parking garage is $10. However, if you have DV (disabled veteran) plates, parking within the structure is complementary.

I'm actually leaving this review to say this is a solid spot to see the Austin skyline at night, or whenever they aren't having an event given it's proximity to downtown, and the central location when considering the midpoint of the skyline view from the South. I attached a few pictures that show the skyline you can see, and I took the opportunity to grab a few pics of my car while I was over there. The venue itself is very large and has a lot of parking, and was also used as part of the Thanksgiving Day Thundercloud Turkey Trot which I took part in earlier this year as well. It seems well organized and good for the community.

We haven't been to the indoors auditorium yet but the HEB terrace is so magical, especially around sunset. The skyline is a beautiful setting for a performance. The food is overpriced and wish either the portions were larger or pricing was reasonable. The Sunday night jazz collaboration outside is really nice because you can picnic in the lawn.

The next 15 minutes were spent looking for a parking place in the garage. I ended up parking at the very top and taking the elevator down. There were several other older ladies as well there who don't quite move quickly. By the time we walked to the door of the Long Center it was 3 minutes after the start of a 90-minute opera. I raced to get to my seat but was escorted to the upper balcony. As I entered there was a lady bandaging her leg on the stairs. From falling there. When I got to the upper balcony it was pitch dark and the helper had a flashlight that didn't work. It took me a while for my eyes to adjust and finally was able to be seated, slightly short of breath from the race and the altitude of those seats. Other nicely dressed older ladies came in after me and stumbled around to find seats. We were informed we would have to sit there for the duration as there was no intermission for a 90 minute performance. Why? I ask you why? Along with a canteen of water, a flashlight and a first aid kit do I need to bring a catheter to the Opera? This is ridiculous. I am pretty ticked off and will not attend again until something is done to remedy the deeply flawed, user-unfriendly experience I had. Navigating in the dark for a 76-year-old is not something that is a healthy activity. You do realize a lot of your audience are seniors, don't you? You do realize that you all probably go to the valet or VIP parking I passed at the one minute marker entrance to the parking lot and then go to your box seats? You're not experiencing what other people are experiencing and I'm afraid you've lost track. I hope you will do something to remedy.

He does a family friendly show so there were a lot of people there with kids, Full families, moms, dads, grandparents. We were one of the few without kids. The staff was very friendly at the entrance, the bar, and when seating. The place is pretty big and has upstairs and downstairs seating as well as a bar on several levels. Two points that did bring the visit a little down. The seating, you are packed in like sardines. No room to stretch even a little, you bump against the stranger next to you or them into you. It is almost worse then an airplane. Two no handrails on several stairs which are also uneven. I have some ongoing spine and foot pain and it caused me issues but I saw several other people struggling and one almost falling themselves. Had it been just me or maybe one other person that would be bad enough but as several people struggled that is a huge safety issue and should be fixed. The ushers helped when they could but sometimes they were helping others and didn't see it happen. Still it was a fun time, if a bit cramped. The staff is great and I love the history but that also means it is very outdated and not very comfy to sit for an hour or more, especially with no intermission.

Oooh, if you like fancy theaters or Texas history or antiques or Illuminati conspiracy theories,…read moreyou simply must come visit the Austin Scottish Rite Theater (ASRT). Best known these days for delightful children's programming, the ASRT also serves as a rentable events venue, the site of many interesting touring act performances, and the ongoing home of one of the oldest Freemason groups in the state, Austin Lodge #12. The building was constructed in 1871 as a German opera house called Turner Hall, and you'll still find many interesting architectural details that hint at the original use. There's even an official state historical marker medallion out front. You can learn more about the fascinating history of the building and the men who met here over the years at the Freemason's site, http://www.austinscottishrite.com/av-temple/ and Historic Theatre Photos, https://www.historictheatrephotos.com/Theatre/Scottish-Rite-Austin.aspx My usual reason to be here is to hear some live music by one of our awesome local bands, or a touring act that is willing to perform in a venue that holds less than 400 audience members. The seats are comfortable and the room is gorgeous, from the old-time decor around the stage to the dreamy night sky on the ceiling and the priceless hand-painted antique backdrops. I really enjoy the intimate listening space and ease of movement out to lounges and the restroom, especially from the first row of the back of the theater. Parking for evening and weekend events is not too bad. There's a small surface lot at 1710 Colorado that is free for theater visitors after 5:30p and on weekends. If that doesn't work out, there is ample metered street parking managed by Texas Capitol (not by City of Austin) and a few private surface lots around with pay-on-site or reservations through ParkWhiz app. I usually don't have to walk more than a couple of blocks or pay more than 5 bucks. One thing that is not easy to do is to understand when upcoming public events are happening at ASRT. The theater's calendar lists only productions that they are managing directly (such as children's plays), and this is only a small sliver of what goes on here. However, if you are tuned into our local performing arts & culture scene, chances are that you'll see some upcoming events scheduled at ASRT and promoted through the hosting organization, such as SXSW, Sonic Guild, Russian Speaker Society of Austin, and others.
