My husband and I came to Long Grove Confectionery after trying their chocolates from Jewel. We wanted to try it from the source. There is a wide variety of chocolate, donuts, and other confections to choose from. A true chocolate lovers paradise. We got the chocolate dipped cookie sandwiches and peanut butter meltaways. Great products and you'll find candy that you haven't seen in ages that takes you right back to your childhood.

This place once was good back in the early 80's. The candy is ok, the chocolate is compound chocolate so is just cheaply made with high ticket prices. They tried to wholsale the candy didnt work to well, they had a few stores in malls like woodfield didnt last. The former owners were not business professionals. Sold the company to arway in chicago. There are better chocolate companies in the suburbs. read more

This little shop holds so much flavor inside. The aroma coming from the building will make you want to walk right in. It's such a cute bakery/coffee shop. Not much room to sit down. They have two tables and a couple of small couches. Fall is the best time of year to go. It does get extremely crowded when Apple Fest comes along but it's worth it. They have the best brown paper bag apple pie. It's perfection in every bite. You can also buy a pie and take it home to make and it will taste just like you're eating it fresh from the store. I absolutely loved the apple donuts and apple strudel. They don't miss with their pastries. I also ordered the apple cider slushie. I wasn't too thrilled with it. They changed up the recipe from the previous times I've gone. It had a strong, spicy aftertaste. Which made drinking it a chore usually when it's my go to. We had some of the Apple Haus's delicious apple cider, apple cider donuts and their "brown bag" Little Davy Apple Pie while in Long Grove this Saturday; I could have died and gone to Isaac Newton Heaven! I really can't say enough about the pie in particular. With a crackly, sugary crust enveloping soft apple slices, this made for delicious breakfast food when microwaved for a few seconds. My family is from MI originally and were really bummed out that we couldn't find any apple cider mills around Chicago upon moving here in our first couple of years here. Now I understand what the long lines at the Strawberry fest was all about. I popped into the Apple Haus one weekday afternoon, knowing I won't be messing with a mob, and went home with a single serving of their apple pie and apple doughnuts. The doughnuts, while tasty, could do without the generous coating of cinnamon sugar. The granules are big and interfere with my enjoyment of the doughnut itself. The apple pie, on the other hand...., Oh. My. God. I have not bitten into a pie so perfect. Crunchy yet soft crust, fresh and not overly sweetened fillings, and it's still mouthwatering good after sitting on the counter for 2 days. In fact, their apple pie is baked in a brown paper bag, the science of which I will never comprehend, provides the crust its indulgent finish. And they recommend that you don't store the apple pie in the fridge and instead leave it in the open at room temperature. The other draw to return is its stock of Galena strawberry jam in the store. We seldom like sugar free jam, but Galena's is naturally sweet. Next time I return, and it won't be too long, I'm coming home with the BIG PIE. read more

We visited the Apple Haus on a Sunday afternoon and left with many goodies. The Apple Haus sells not only it's famous brown bag apple pies, but they also carry a huge selection of apple-based syrups, breads, pound cakes, preserves and sauces. The Hickory Apple BBQ sauce is to die for. It's ridiculously amazing. The cider donuts don't look so great (brown and plain) but they are DELICIOUS. You can pick one up to sample for 80 cents. Was delighted to get my Apple Haus fix today. Five stars for the apple cider donuts alone. I am not normally a big donut person but I could probably polish off half a box of these if given the chance. They are light, non-greasy, just the right amount of sweet with that tangy cider taste. Apple cider on its own is also delicious. Apple slushies, well, I'm not a big slushie person, but my husband sucks them down like there's no tomorrow. I have spent most of my life in Long Grove and have been going to the Apple Haus for donuts as soon as I could eat solids! I always return to get my fix of apple donuts. Equally amazing are the Strawberry and Chocolate versions they make for the other festivals. However, the apple donuts remain number one in my heart because of all the memories they hold for me. They are the best when you get them fresh out of the oven and eat them warm :) I have been known to eat an entire box of six on my own under these circumstances! Also, the hot apple cider is fantastic! I love to enjoy one in the fall, especially when it is during the Apple Fest. My uncle used to own a shop in the Long Grove Historic Shops and I helped him out one season. It was also then that I discovered the best apple pie from the one and only Apple Haus. Since 4 years ago, not a Thanksgiving goes by without me ordering a couple of Uncle Johnny's brown bag apple pies from there. They are amazingly fresh and delicous with tapioca mixed in the filling and a buttery crust! Typically, with pies, you have the fans of the top crust or fans of the bottom. With this, I can't decide. Can I like them both? The brown bag does keep the pie crust crispy though! I love it. I can't wait for dessert on Thanksgiving! All I know is Apple Haus makes the best apple pie! I've never tried the other pies.. I should give them a chance too. They also sell the Little Johnny's which is almost an individual-sized apple pie but it's not baked the same way and doesn't have tapioca. Still delicious though! Everyone's been talking about the apple cider donuts -- when I picked up my pies today, I just couldn't resist ordering half a dozen donuts to try. They were delicious! And, no, I didn't eat all of them! So soft and airy on the inside but crispy on the outside. Who doesn't love this place. Whenever I think of the holidays I think of Apple Haus. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving or Christmas without an apple or blueberry apple pie. Situated in historic Long Grove the town is quite kitschy, but they make a quality product. The brown bag apple pies aren't the only thing to check out. Their donuts are probably the best cake donuts I've ever had. The apple donuts are dense, but not dry and with a little bit of crunch. Today they even had a seasonal pumpkin donut and I have to say that it was even better than the regular apple donut. It was soft and sugary and absolute heaven. You have to make the far drive from the city even if it's just once. It's hard to be disappointed when they make such tasty treats. Definitely well worth the drive. Let's just start by saying that everyone is completely right about the apple donuts! Delish! I even was worried because I greatly prefer sugar on my apple donuts. No fear, the spongy goodness and amazingly fresh apple flavor more then make up for the lack if sugar. We also picked up an apple fritter (don't skip over this-just as amazing, if not better, then the apple cider donut), mini apple pie (put in oven to warm, then in mouth!), and apple butter (not your typical consistency, but still yummy... Probably would not buy again though). Why, then, you might ask, did I not give this five stars if everything was great?! Well, not great service. We were stared at with no greeting when we entered, and the girls behind the counter clearly would be much happier if there was no one in the store. Clearly they are too ignorant to know that would mean they were out of a job? My biggest issue is that this is long grove. It's whole market is people looking for a cute old timey feel and when you have three snobs behind the counter, it ruins it. Look around, apple Haus, you have a great product, but you are in a town that seems to be getting pushed by the wayside that could be really great. If apple Haus is going to make it, they need to play up the old timey feel and perhaps find some friendlier employees. Don't let my rant detour you. They sell some really great homemade products, just don't come in expecting the service to blow you away like it should. read more

Went here for one reason only: to buy cider doughnuts. The store, besides being a bakery that sells doughnuts, bread, and pies; it had many other things such as spices/condiments, sauces, marinades, and other cooking/baking knick knacks. It was a quaint and welcoming environment overall. The workers were very nice too but what else do you expect from a small town? But onto the cider doughnuts. Those things are delicious. They are about half the size of doughnuts that people are used to (i.e. compared to dunkin), but man are they tasty. They are cakey, moist, and sweet, with apple and cinnamon being the major flavors. If you have a chance to try these cider doughnuts, I highly recommend them. It ended up being the highlight of our trip out there. read more

I would love to give the Apple Haus 5 stars but unfortunately due to a bad experience this weekend, I can only give them 3. The cider doughnuts and brown bag apple pies are amazing, as everyone stated, but the operations of the place during apple fest were horrible. It seems as though they tried to be somewhat prepared by adding a second line, but the fact that they only had 3 people behind the counter was an Epic fail. We waited in one of the two lines that wrapped around the fest and stood there for a total of 2 hours. I would have actually been OK with that if once we got inside they were properly staffed and they were helping customers with a sense of urgency, but that was not the case. If they were more properly staffed, they could have gotten people in and out in half the time. In addition, there was no organization to the line or how people were getting in and out of the building, so there was an issue of people trying to cut in front of other people that had spent hours waiting. I would definitely give the food 5 stars, the service and management however, would only get 1 star. read more

So I find myself waiting in a line that easily rivals the lines at the Great America. We, (the people in front of me, behind me, and myself) are in line for a roller coaster ride of infinite proportions. We are gearing up for a taste sensation that can only come once a year. The name of this extravaganza is the apple cider donuts. This year the line snaked out the store, over the cobbled stone steps, past Josh the balloon man, and scratched quite close to the water fountain beyond the flower shop. With the mix of gorgeous weather full of blue sky, white marshmallow clouds, unseasonably warm temperatures, and the last day of the festival near a close these may have factored into the long lines. There were two long lines for donuts. One line ended up under the white tent awning, cash only. The other llne that I was in had a longer wait, but Apple Haus takes plastic and I can order up apple pie ice cream, three scoops (to share). There should probably be a sign that tells you how long the wait will be. No worries I knew what I had anxiously anticipated. Four dozen donuts later with a davey apple pie and apple pie ice-cream in tow, I find a ride that can make my taste buds squeal with delight. The festival donuts are different from the rest of the year because they are sugar- cinnamon coated. Apple donuts are usually glazed throughout the year. The davey pie had a spoon already tucked in amongst the crumble crunchy crust that made my heart leap. Of course we would be eating this delectable pie now! Find a grassy area preferably shaded, lay out a blanket, watch the kiddies toss the football around, listen to the live band jamming. and the experience is complete. Want another ride? Holla! Wow, holy apple pie-gasm. The best tasting apple pie Ive ever had, even if the thing absolutely will not stay together when I slice it. The fresh pressed apple cider tastes like your eating a fresh apple, two for two. This place rules just based on those two things alone. Add to this a buttload of more things like apple butter, apple maple syrup, and a bunch more really tasty looking baked goods. I will be back, and probably soon. read more

Ok, first of all I'm not a huge fan of apple pies. I think people tend to make them too sweet and heavy. Apples are sweet in themselves and do not need too much sugar if you ask me. Apple-cranberry or apple-blueberry pies are more to my liking since they are usually more tart and light (at least that's how I perceive them). That being said, we dropped in this very charming and amusing town based on the recommendation of a friend. We knew we were getting the "brown bag" apple pie. My husband LOVES apple pies and will even buy one from Sam's (if I do not make the time to bake one myself!) to satisfy his apple pie craving. So clearly when I suggested that we get the apple-cranberry/blueberry, he said no. We also got the apple cider and pumpkin donuts based on the recommendations on Yelp. Well, now here comes the review: The crust was the only part of the pie that I liked. The apple filling was, as expected, too sweet. Even my husband who loves the crappiest apple pies confessed that Sam's club apple pies tasted better. He did not like the crust either. We did NOT get the deal with the brown paper bag other than it was a big messy oily wad of paper which could have not been there. If they absolutely need to bake their pies in them, can't they just take them off and sell them to people?! It was disgusting to look at and left me wondering if the piece of paper has so much fat on it, how much is actually in the pie??!! The apple cider donuts were also a disappointment. We had gotten a box consisting of 3 pumpkin and 3 apple cider donuts. I smelled them first in order to determine which was which and could not tell. We then tasted what we later found out to be the apple cider and concluded it was the pumpkin since it did not taste like apples one bit. Then we had the pumpkin and found out that the one we ate before it was indeed the apple cider. Disappointing! And to think that I had not had donuts in over 12 years to have this and break my oath!! (I used to eat donuts a lot and then I got fat, hence the oath!) The pumpkin donuts were very nice. The consistency was wonderful, the pumpkin spice was heavenly, and I absolutely enjoyed them. We also bought two "no sugar added" preserves, raspberry and apricot, from the store which we have not sampled yet. read more
