If you want to know the truth, I hate reviewing public places, but Astoria Park actually isn't as…read moreboring as most public parks in New York. ​It's sitting right on the East River, and you've got these two massive bridges, the Hell Gate and the RFK, looming right over you like giant iron monsters. The Hell Gate, with its big red steel arch, actually looks damn impressive, especially when the light hits it right around sunset. This park just kind of sits there letting the water run by and wether walking by or just sitting down, its an impressive and calming place with the right person on a midsummer night. ​You walk along the concrete promenade by the railing and you see all kinds of people. Couples taking pictures, kids yelling, guys sitting on benches thinking about whatever. It's got these giant green lawns where people just lay around. I hear that there's this massive outdoor pool that gets completely jammed in the summer, but I've never been nor do i intend to. ​It's just grass, trees, a breeze off the water, and trains occasionally rumbling over the bridge high above your head. It kills me how peaceful it can get right under all that heavy machinery. If you have to be around people in Queens, this is probably one of the least depressing places to do it. It really is.

I admit the parking lot, in the midst of the city noise and overflowing rubbish bins, made me a tad hesitant to get out of the car at first, but it gradually dawned on me how the character of the park changed as we walked further away from parking and into the trails lined with mature tall trees. I love nature and appreciate green spaces, so parks like this usually hold a special place. I hope they continue to maintain the park and I hope many more people will cherish its presence.

You'll be surprised till you see the water view coming from the hill. It has good views of Whitestone bridge, Manhattan skyline and La Guardia airport. Definite worth coming. As a life long NYer, with my majority of time in Queens, I found it a bit shocking I never been to…read morethe this park until recently. Honestly, unless they live here, I don't know of any people going to College Point unless it is to the big box stores on 20th Ave. I get it, you either need to bus it or drive here since there is no train/subway access. The streets are narrow and the buses are wide making it even more intimidating to venture north in Queens, which is a shame because this area is lovely with its waterfront park. The view has "the city" off into the distance, Rikers island and LaGuardia airport with its low flying planes a bit closer and you may be able to steal a glimpse of the Whitestone bridge, but nearby Powell Cove's park may be better spot for that. The park was under construction in some parts so sections were closed off, but there are nice grassy areas. Benches line the waterfront and walkways that trace it making for a nice spot to chat with a friend providing they aren't suffering from springtime allergies that is - lots of pent up pollen in them trees! A couple of pro-tips: parking is street nearby and probably not the best smelling waterfront at low tide.

The signs say "shower before getting into the pool," yet I was yelled at to shower just for walking to a lounge chair with my towel. If you have to shower the moment you step onto the deck, change the signs to reflect that. ​Dealing with the public is hard, but the staff here are completely miserable and looking for a fight. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere.

There are already so many reviews, so just some notes: 1) Make your way around the current dump (also a Nassau County gem, seriously) and drive slowly. 2) Parking is tricky at certain times of the day and on weekends. Make sure to come before 9:30 on beautiful days, or else you'll be parking far, far away. More steps, If you really want them I guess. 3) Wear your sunscreen! Skin cancer is no joke, and it's pretty bright up top with not a lot of coverage if you walk around to the lake. 4) Beware...No lights in the bathroom and really not the best place to use the loo. There however is a shopping center close by... 5) Look out of all sorts of critters from birds to bugs.. including ticks.

There's parking available upon arrival. There's seating alongside the body of water. There's various activities available to do here including walking, taking a seat to overlook the water or people-watch, picnic, BBQ or grill, fishing, and running or jogging.
