Talk about the most rude, impolite and horrendous employees. We stopped by on April 19th around noon. Brought our 3 year old, 7 month old and dog on leash. Proceeded to unload everything and got all set up. Employee drives down, talks to the 2 fishermen and says , "were closed but since youre already here, you can stay". Then proceeds to come over to my 2 young children and I and tells me that we "have to leave, they are closed". We tried paying the $22 for day use for a couple hours and put it in the payment slot thinking she would allow us to stay as she did the fishermen. Nope! Extremely rude and hostile, threatening demeanor in front of my kids. Left immediately, won't be back! read more

Our family has been camping here for at least 10 years, every summer. It's a beautiful lake and a decent campground, but over the last few years, Nevada Irrigation District has become so greedy and that we are, sadly, now looking for another place to camp. Here's why: 1) We were just there at Long Ravine, and the campground was EMPTY, but we had a third vehicle for 4 of the 7 days we were staying. We were forced to pay over $200 for another campsite (which we NEVER used) just to park the third car even though the parking area right across from site 26 was completely empty the entire time! We were willing to pay the $20/night for the car, but this was ridiculous! They stated fire marshal rules, but there was NO evacuation danger! But then on Friday, when the camp filled up more, there was a car parked in the extra parking area with a camp tag! There was also a truck allowed to park on the dirt area between campsites! 2) Upon arrival, one of the stalls in the women's bathroom was taped up and noted out of order. We were told it was being fixed but it never was and the smell only got worse through the week and when we left on Saturday, another toilet was stopped up, leaving only one stall to use on a busy weekend. 3) We paid $68/night for another electric site even though we use tents. We have a boat and not only were we charged the $13/night extra charge for having a boat, but we were also charged a launch fee for each day of our stay, even though we didn't launch the boat every day! That should be part of the camping fee! 4) We went there a month early this year as we were told that they would be releasing the water starting July 1 due to repairs needing to be done, but upon arrival, the lake was already way down so there was no day beach or Great Lake access beaches as they were all in sludge! And they were still charging people $20/vehicle for their day use when it was so steep and rocky that you couldn't even get to the water easily! We get that fees go up, but then we should also see improvements to the camps! And to impose such restrictive and excessive fees is a total turn off. State campgrounds are hands-down much better than this and we'll only use them now. read more

We came to Long Ravine Campground for a camping/boating trip this summer. I'm not a camping expert, but I have seen some nicer campgrounds. They offer both RV and tent camping, but we stayed in the tent campground area, sites #31 and #32. The positive aspects of Long Ravine campground are 1. there are lots of trees that provide excellent shade. It was well over 100 degrees the weekend we went so having shade from the trees was a great plus. 2. Campgrounds #31 and #32 are relatively quiet because they are away from the cluster of tents further up the road. 3. The nights are nice and you can see lots of stars. 4. There are bathrooms and a shower. So here are some of the negatives...1. The water faucet that is at campsite #31 is home to many, many bees. Every time we turned on the water, a massive amount of bees would come out of the rocks below. There was definitely a nest in there and therefore, it was NOT usable unless you want a swarm of bees flying around you. We told staff about the bees, but no one came to do anything about it. 2. The campsite is full of bees and insects that fly in your face. Besides the bee nest at our campsite, while just being around our campsite, there were so many bees and large insects that were extremely aggressive and kept getting in our face and pestering us. Simple swatting didn't make them go away. Off spray couldn't keep the persistent ones away either. 3. The bathroom. There is no counter space by the sink to put your stuff. We had to take turns using the sink while the other person held the toiletries. 4. The toilets were working fine the first day, but the second day, they were plugged up SO BAD, the staff eventually had to shut the whole bathroom closed. I literally saw footsteps of brown leaving the stalls. I could not go near the toilets and others resorted to go behind a tree. 5. They only have one plug in the bathroom, way up high on the wall. I can tell they don't want you to plug any electronics in. 6. The campground only has one shower, much further up the road, where the cluster of tent campsites were. The shower works by feeding it quarters and it's 25 cents per minute. Good way to get people to conserve water. The slot for the quarters is way up on the wall as well. On the plus side, the shower felt great. 7. There was no open fires allowed due to the wildfires. Going camping with no wood burning for s'mores or hot charcoal for BBQing really brings the experience down a few levels. The kids still ate the s'mores raw and we had to change our menu to cook stuff with pans on a portable butane or propane stove. 8. The campgrounds are pretty far from the lake. Unless you want to go on a really long hike, it's best to drive a car down to the lake. 9. No wi-fi. Some people might put this one in the positive section, but I'm putting it here. 10. Restaurant and shop were closed. Despite the negative section of Long Ravine Campground, we still had a great time. Rollins Lake is beautiful and fun, but this campground attached to it could have been a little better. It is definitely not that bad though. We just happen to go on an extremely hot weekend during active fire season and got a campsite with a ton of bees. All of these could be avoided next time. And the fun at the lake and memories the kids will have definitely outweighs the less than average campground experience. read more

This review is for day use: We came in the summer midweek and had the beach to ourself. The price a tad high ($17 I believe) and they DO take cards so that's nice. The shoreline was clean and has some natural shade. Although the store was closed so be prepared if coming midweek. We were going to rent a boat but couldn't bc of this (Google gave the wrong business hours). There is a slide in the roped off swim zone. Be sure to wet it before going down. The few families that eventually showed up were very nice and respectful and we all took turns going down the slide. I would def recommend for a day trip. read more

Such a great camp site for campers who don't like to "rough it" too much! The grounds, bathrooms, etc. are very well kept! We took our grandbabies and pups for their first camping trip and it was absolutely perfect! Though close, the sites are nicely sized. They are all organized with a fire pit, picnic table and parking. Many have space for extra vehicles. Several have hook-ups for campers. The NID folks drive around checking on the bathrooms and picking up garbage throughout the day. They are friendly and helpful, too. One of them stopped to help ground guide as I parked our trailer (I'm a novice). There is a little shop and restaurant on site, if you want a break from cooking over the campfire/stove. The shop has little things you may have forgotten, such as dog food, personal hygiene, color books and ice cream. The lake is a short walk across the campsite. There is a great floating slide and boats for rent. If you have pups, they can only be on one area of the "beach" so plan accordingly. read more

Ssd to report the delay in opening the 2020 season at Lomgs Ravine . But dont blame it on the campground staff. Nobody has worked harder to prepare for a fantastic summer then Chief Ranger Jim Pelton and his staff . This will be my 6th year as a season boat slip holder and it's the best money I'll spend all year. The campground is clean, safe and relaxing . If you should find them still closed due to this lockdown circus I would stronly encourage you to call the PLACER COUNTY AUTHORITY and tell them you want the best little campground in the sierra foothills open now ! read more

Been coming here for years. It's been getting worse and worse each year. Less amenities yet same price. They don't update their answering machine (probably on purpose). It says they allow campfires. So based off that info we booked. Then we get there only to find out the don't allow them and haven't for quite some time. The dock in the swimming area with the slide hasn't been out for years and their reason is "we need to get some divers to hook the anchor to the bottom of the lake" ok.....so...why after 2+ years has it not happened? The outrigger grill sells overpriced frozen food that takes waaaaaay longer than they say it will. When you check to see if your food is almost ready the lady behind the counter answers "look I have one fryer and like 40 orders you just have to wait" yet doesn't seem to have her stuff together as she serves people in any which order she pleases. Almost everyone who ordered complained. Staff uses every excuse in the book for why things haven't been like they were before. After coming here for decades with our families we decided this was the worst of the worst and will end our family tradition here and continue it somewhere else where the owners seem to care a little bit more about the campgrounds they run rather than being complacent with the declining conditions of the campsites and amenities. I honestly don't see this place lasting another 5-10 years at this rate. read more

$15 parking and $75 per camp site. At night sometimes you have other campers who make so much noise that it disturbs other campers after midnight, rangers don't do anything about it. The campsites are slanted over and water fountains are almost always broken. Last year my car even got hit in the parking. A truck towing a trailer hit my car and ran away. Not easy to find parking on a busy day, life going jetski. There is no reception with most phone providers here and no pay phone that I could see. At&t works but is touchy. Verizon said they are going to put out an antenna in the area, but don't know when. read more

Pros: The lake is beautiful! Fun for boating, kayaking, paddleboard, and just fun floating! The camp was clean (until nasty guests messed it up.) The marina is nice! The staff working in the campground is friendly and helpful!!! Kids love the swimming area with the slide! Cons: The lakefront campsites (we reserved campsite "N" CAN NOT ACCOMMODATE the amount of campers that it lists on their website. Supposedly 16. No Way!!! They had to comp us another campsite to fit our camping group. They don't answer the phone so it takes many calls to get info or any help. No one came around to quiet down the weekend party crowd, so it's your family with the drunks that are loud, obnoxious, puking, peeing and pooping all over. The bathrooms were trashed!!! Campsites are on a steep hillside. It's very hard to find more than one real tent space, even for a 16 person site. We had 6 people. We fit one 6 person and two 3 person tents in a 16 person site. We had 6 people. That's it! We were all on a slant. The steep hillside is slippery with pine needles and loose gravel. It came with one 6-person picnic table that was rotted and literally fell apart. We had a camping trip planned for this location August 6-8th. A birthday and group community event. They cancelled our group event a day before our event due to fires, laughed and provided no remorse. They called to refund us. Our current bank information wasn't working nor was it current. They refunded us to our old bank account and after calling to see if they could correct their decision, they blamed their old business system and bank system as to why they couldn't go the extra mile and transfer our refund to our new account. The customer service rep didn't even try nor ask for assistance. I will never go to this camp ground again. They are unprofessional. Pretty much, most of the comments in all these 3 Star or less reviews is right on target. So why my 5 Stars? Because it's CAMPING, people. For $40, I drove less than an hour from a major city, and got an opportunity to spend time with my family outdoors, overnight, next to a lake, and share with them what camping is, was, and always will be, which is filled with some uncomfort, insects and animals, funny smells, noisy neighbors, slightly awkward restroom arrangements, and yes, even unlevel sleeping surfaces and murky lake water (as-if!). Our experience at Long Ravine was so perfect, that I almost didn't want to put up the 5 Stars because I wanted to keep this amazing spot under wraps. But I'm sure a lot of employees worked hard to make it so awesome and deserve props, and maybe others can have the same great time we did after reading this, so here I go, hoisting up a well deserved 5 Stars for y'all. read more

After spending $30 on 2 very small fries and 6 very small chicken strips the lady at the so called store and grill would not even give my kid a simple squirt of ketchup for her burger and she was rude about saying no. We will never come to this campground again. We love Rollins lake but orchard springs campground is much much better. And just so there is no confusion I ordered 2 orders of fries and one order of chicken strips and it was $30. Lame. read more

I have been camping all over Northern California and this must be one of the worst spots to go. Not only did my group have to pay $200 for two nights to reserve the spot, but we had to pay $30 per car to park. When we arrived there was not enough room to place our tents and there was poison oak all over the camp ground. I live in the San Francisco and i go camping to get away from other people, but at LongRavine I felt like I was right back into the city with the distances of each camp ground. We had people right next to us on both sides. If i am paying well over $400 to host a camping weekend there should be no reason for this resort not to clean up the POISON OAK. it is ridiculous, we did not even need to hike to get in poison oak all we did was walk from our tents to the camping tables. The one good thing about this camp ground was that they had showers, but I would rather wait 4 days to shower then to ever go here again... I am very unpleased and will not plan on every coming back again... This is not a place for party camping, or for large groups. Many families were located there, but what happens to the kids when they run around and catch poison Oak? This camp ground does not care about other peoples well beings they just care about the money. If you have a boat and would like to stay near your boat, and you don't mind wasting your money away, then you should camp here. other then that, good luck on the Poison Oak! read more

We stayed at Long Ravine camprgound at Rollins Lake because we were invited by friends. We were able to reserve a lake front campsite for $29 per night. The site had a view of the lake, but also of the other 6 campsites cramped into a very small area. We were lucky to have room for a two tents. The grounds are privately owned, so they tout strict enforcement of the rules. I am by no means a quiet person camping, I enjoy sitting around the campfire and playing music etc, but the neighboring campers were up past 3 am both nights. On the positive side, there are free showers and flush toliets. All in all, I would rather spend less money per night for more room and privacy and to support our national parks. read more

This is an AWESOME campground.....if I were a FLY!! After a restful night beauty sleep in the sewage pond, I would buzz 20 yards over to my neighboring campers and for some free grubs/crib to lay some eggs in. Disgusting! If you would like to rinse that foul stench off, you're gonna have to hike down 100 yards down to the "lake" only to work up a sweat from your hike back up the 45 degree embankment. "Oh, I can rinse off under the provided shower", you thought. The only problem is, they shut off the freakin water 'cause there was not enough for rest of the fellow campers. WTF!! Needless to say, we had enough of the BS and cut our trip short. Kids were very disappointed. :( read more

Being that the campground is on Rollins Lake, I kinda expected more convenient access to the lake. Instead, we had to walk up/down hilly trails and along roads in order to get to the shore. This is fine once or twice, but by the time you factor in additional trips to take the dog swimming, beer runs back to the campsite, etc. etc., it gets pretty tiring (especially while carrying a backpack full of beer!) On the first night we headed down to the shore and there was a terrible cover band playing...but with all the drunk folk (including some of my girls) dancing around, it made for a pretty good time! The campsites were very large and mostly flat, which was nice as we were a fairly large group and had lots of tents to set up. The website states that they have flush toilets and showers, but EEEEW! I know it's a campsite, but with one of the toilets overflowing all over the bathroom floor, no paper towels, and a lady in one stall that sounded like she was dying, I decided it was worth the risk of getting poison oak in inconvenient places and opted for the woods! Poison oak runs rampant throughout the campground, so beware! We were pretty loud, playing music (including some of our favorite Lil Kim hits from high school, lol) and hanging out until almost 2 am, but nobody around us appeared to care :-) Not disappointing, but Greenhorn's campsites are closer to the water and the area is more picturesque...think we'll try that next time! Had to write a review because I have camped here two times in the last three years and just booked our third trip. I have camped Lakeside and in the regular sites. Both were nice sites, yes Lakeside sites were small. Evidently the new ownership realized that too and combined the lakeside sites to make them larger. The price went up to $75 for the lakeside sites but that worked perfect as we have two families going anyway and usually get two sites together. Never had any issues with noisy neighbors, although you can hear some crazies in the distance while going to sleep. Pretty normal as far as camping goes... Restrooms were hit and miss, could use a little extra attention from time to time, but overall not horrible. Again, it is camping. I've seen some pretty dirty bathrooms in Yosemite, so for the most part, these were ok. better than no flush toilets that I grew up camping with. Hard to get a hold of for reservations. Better calling in the evening. However, once I got in touch with them, they were VERY friendly. Great little store, nice sand(ish) swim area. Kids love the dock and slide. Great place to bring kayaks, kids and friends. If I could get ahold of them easier and the restrooms were sparkling clean all day I would give them 5 stars... read more

Staff was friendly, campsite was clean and RV hookups worked well. This is not lakeside camping however. 1/4 mile walk to the lake and can't see if from the campground. RV spot was also not level. So you may need leveling blocks under a tire before you throw down the jacks. Giant ancient oak trees create some great shady campsites for this park. I'm sure that shade is great on hot days in the summer. read more

The website show outdoor grill but actually it doesn't have it. Call ahead to make sure it is there. Camp site is good but you can hear cars on the highway 80 at night since it is close. You can do a lot of water activities in the lake, just a short walking distance down. You can bring your own boat. There were a lot of fishes, wish I brought my gear to do some fishing. You have to walk through other camp site (RV campsite) to use the bathroom. Bathroom is clean, standard toilet with flushing. You can put some coins in to use the shower. read more

First time visitor. I loved the short drive to get here from Sac. The lake was nice (once you found parking) but overall I was not impressed. The bathroom close to us had one operational stall and the showers were broken. And our site did not have a BBQ as advertised. The worst part was the other campers. I wish the only problems we had were the marijuana that was being smoked around us. I am hoping we just ended up in the ghetto section. The people across from us were so drunk by 6:30pm on Saturday that the girls were screaming at each other then crying. The hilarity was when the "security patrol" came to tell us they could hear voices (at 10:30pm). Apparently we were talking too loud with our teens as we sat playing cards. Maybe if we were drunk and had our music blaring it would have been ok. Security had told the people across from them to turn the music down which lasted for about 5 minutes. About 12 am people starting complaining to other campers about their music and the offenders decided to crank up the base so loud we couldn't sleep. At 8:30 the next morning two campsites came inches from a fist fight after screaming profanities for a few minutes (despite being screamed at that there were kids around). Apparently the rowdy drunk people broke something at the site next to them. Complete trash! We will be back for a day trip but not where I want to bring my kids. Hope they clean up the guests! read more

Poorly ran facility ! Campsites are small, and on top of each other. The blonde at the front check in desk was so rude...even after asking for a map (1st time there) we never got one. We were given directions to our site set up camp, come to find out we were in the wrong site. No big deal, mistakes get made, easy fix. Even though I confirmed with the maintenance guy and the gal at the front on 3 yes THREE separate occasions that were in the right spot. Again no big deal to move, but the manner in which we were treated was unacceptable. Bathrooms were a mess They close the store for employee's to take lunch. The wait times to get gas on the lake were a joke, as we had to wait for employee's to come back from lunch. The lake is beautiful but small. Save your money and go elsewhere! read more

The people at Long Ravine Campground are soooo nice. The group in the campsite next to us were obnoxious, and so the campground people worked extremely hard to accomodate us. They took us on their ATVs to a secluded location overlooking the lake. Unfortunately there weren't any amenities, but if you don't mind doing everything au natural and lots of bugs, I would recommend asking for the secluded spot. read more

Apparently I had a completely different experience than most people here.. We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days at long ravine campground and it was everything you would expect when you're camping. We did have an RV site as my family uses their vintage trailers (I still rough it in a tent..) so maybe they're better than the average spots. We took up three campsites and there was more than enough space to accommodate the 8 adults and 7 children. The bathrooms did get slightly messy towards the evening when the cleaning crew was off duty, but I blame that on the guests and not the staff. I saw them repeatedly check on and clean the bathrooms throughout the day and everything stayed very well maintained. Also, showers were "broken" but the heat was fine.. You're camping, this isn't the four seasons. The "beach" experience wasn't spectacular, as there were large groups of people playing completely vulgar music at top level as 6 year olds and grandmas waded in the water. (And believe me, I'm down for some vulgar music myself.. Just not in that circumstance.) Again though, you can't really blame the staff or location on other guests crappy actions. No party animals in our section.. All was nice and peaceful at night for us. So overall, good fine normal camping experience and I would definitely stay here again. read more

Bathrooms were.....ugh. I don't expect pristine, believe me...but do expect working toilets, SOME kind of cleaning/sanitizing on a daily basis (not just filling up the soap and toilet dispensers), and paper towels possibly. We were along the loop located by the entrance. I don't mind noisy campers so much...but at 1 am??!! The security there were too scared to lay down the law..and I think this is pretty well known, that's why this camp ground is prob more preferred by the louder crowds. Rap music with vulgar language is always something you wanna listen to with your kids. lol. yessss....awesome! Anyhow - ppl were nice and friendly there for the most part...but you will always have that ONE group that is just plain rude and inconsiderate (not the ones listening to rap all night long, but the ones who drive fast by your camp site, kicking up dirt with little regard). Any how - I enjoyed reminiscing to 1998, thanks Dr Dre, G-Funk, Biggie Smalls! hahaha...I swear, I didn't mind that at all....it's jus that....well...it's 1 am!! and all the camp sites around you can hear that music blasting! My family had a great time on the family camping trip at Long Ravine! We camped at the Rustlers Roost group site and we loved it! Plenty of space for the kids to run around, plenty of room for all 40 of us! Would have given 5 stars, but the showers and restrooms didn't seem to get much attention (pretty dirty). With the anticipation of driving to a warmer spot than our usual Big Sur secret campsite in the woods... my friend spontaneously booked a spot here for the 7 of us. We were all stoked on getting some 85 degree weather instead of 60's-- 10 degrees does make that big of a difference with living in micro-climate SF all summer long. I had already read someones 1 star review but had hoped it wasn't going to be as terrible as they said with the poison oak filled throughout the campsite (I am now deathly afraid of poison oak since my first encounter that lasted about a month, spreading on my legs and nose). Things to note: if you enjoy being in the wilderness, which I think is the main goal of camping-- do not come here. Regardless if car camping or backpack camping, there are much better spots than this place. Our $50 campsite was bare in the sense that there were minimal trees or any type of green. We could see everyone at their individual campsite and they can see us. What made my experience exceptionally more irritating were the neighbors who blasted their gangster rap until the am with their 10 kids and loud crackling voices that echoed in the empty space through out camp. The park ranger did in fact pay them a visit and warned them a few times from other nearby complaints but didn't actually reprimand them at the end after her whole rant about how they should be scared of her and how she's not scared of them due to her abusive childhood. TMI! Buzz kill! Let's be real. We're a bunch of mid 20 year old's who like to have fun as well, but when we all called it a night after copious amounts of whiskey ginger ales and rum and cokes-- all we heard were 4x4 trucks on the freeway breaking heavily, RV generators, and loud vibrations of the bass from the obnoxious music playing over screeching voices. The only plus to this weekend was driving 30 minutes out to Yuba River in Nevada city. Crisp clear water and pockets for cliff diving. Definitely worth a splash here, but next time the chances are if we renting a Motel 6 may be less ghetto than Long Ravine. read more
