I can't believe this campground is $62 a night for lakefront sites +$7 for dogs per night (you have to book double nights on weekends apparently) The bathrooms were dirty, full of old spider webs, and showers are coin operated! After $62? Really? We stayed in site 54 which if we wanted to go in the lake, we had to walk down to 53, through their campsite and down some steep steps. Which btw there's really only 2 flattish areas you can bring chairs/cooler to. One of the 2 days we stayed, people were down on the only lake access area so we literally had nowhere to hangout down there. Unless you were in the water the whole time. Super disappointing. The walk down is steep and slippery so be careful. This side had vault toilets which were also dirty and didn't lock. Site 45 had good lake access as well on the other side. If you're ok with the price point, the lake is super nice. If you get to get a spot down there. They also have a beach area but no dogs so booooo! lol

Visited prior to the start of the memorial day weekend, so it wasn't as busy. For the most part, almost all of the guest stayed at the Point, at sites 44 to 55 which the campground treats as lakefront sites. We stayed at site 44 and 45 and noted that 44 to 48 make up sites along the cove. I enjoyed these sites but there is a little bit of a walk down to the water. Site 53 is almost right on top of the water and site 54 and 55 are not that far either. The only real issue is that there isn't a flush toilet at these lakefront sites. Their are two vault toilets but it is possible to walk to the other bathrooms at the second loop which have flush toilets and showers. It is about a 5 to 10 minute walk uphill but definitely worth it for the flush toilets and generally cleaner bathrooms. For the most part almost all the sites on the point are definitely communal. You will be right next to your neighbors so keep that in mind. At some of the sites there was definitely people partying and being loud after 10 but thankfully they had quieted down before 12. It wasn't too bad as I wasn't right next to the group but its something to keep in mind. Additionally as others have noted, a lot of the sites are small and are on uneven ground, so it can be tough to but up a bigger tent. If you are looking for a bit more room and stable ground, consider the center spots in the upper loop. Again, you are much closer to your neighbors but it quite a bit more level. For some real privacy, site 67, 35, 25 are a bit more wooded than the other sites. The roads getting to the campsite were not bad, and our interactions with camp host were great. Karen was very friendly and personable and she seems to remember past interactions quite well. She seemed to get to know my family pretty well. There was only two people working at the time but we didn't have any issues with services or the site. Trash is also collected by carts that they had set up next to the restrooms. Since we were at the point, we didn't really spend time at the day use area, but we did rent a paddle board for the whole day. It was a great value and the kids really enjoyed it I really enjoyed my stay at this site and the only real issue I had is that it a bit more expensive than some other sites I've been to. I didn't get a chance to check out the group sites but I can imagine those would be much better for groups, if not grabbing a bunch of the sites between 44 to 55 also could make a good group site.

This campground is okay, kinda small spots with very few level spots. We had a large group and didn't have enough space for parking. We paid for a "double spot" and a 23' camper Filled it up, it was definitely not worth the extra $$. There is a boat ramp and dock too. They do have pit bathrooms and regular bathrooms with showers too.

Really liked how there is a camping ground and a boat ramp aswell,it is very calm and silent,I like how no one overdose it or makes too much noise, everyone kinda their own business

06/14: The new on site caretakers were much better than last year! The sites, beaches, and bathrooms are clean. The staff were kind and helpful. We'll be back next year. 06/ 2013 : Beautiful lake and campground, horrible new management! We've been going to this campground for 4 years and have always loved it. This year it was under new management and we were very disappointed. The restrooms were very very dirty and were not attended to or stocked regularly. The store was not stocked well. While the women living on site was nice and seemed to be trying very hard, other staff was impatient at best, rude and inhospitable overall. They seem to have very low standards and no pride in their work. Coincidentally (?) there seemed to be a lot of riff-raff in the day use area when there hasn't been in years past. 01/14 Update: Decided to give them another try this year and am already disappointed. Their reservations were managed horribly!!! I hope they figure things out soon.

We spent our 4th of July at this place. When we approached the gates we met a few staff members Karen, Sam & Diane there was also a young lady a and guy didnt get there names. The staff was very friendly and informative and helpful we felt like part of there family. Thank you for being so nice . We got the spot #54 ( the point) which is the best campsite and it surely was. Breath taking views also there is a little walk way to the lake also across there is a man made stairs. The bathroom in this area is almost a porta potty no lights but it didnt bother us. There is a shower but we brought our own.The weather was perfect and so was the water. Other campers were also there and they were all nice and very respectful. We really enjoyed the nights , scary stories and smores. Unfortunately we had to leave on Friday the 5th because my son from the Navy came home so we decided to leave early so we can see him. We cleaned our space for new campers to enjoy that spot. We hope to come again and to the staff thank you so much we appreciate what you guys do and Ms. Karen thanks for the input about the puppy class and say hi to your fur baby for us.

Campsite was nice and spacious. Garbage pickup was helpful. Only complaint was duck poop all over beach area. That was gross.

WONDERFUL NEWS!!! I found a lake that isn't a small muddy pond(yes I am looking at you Folsom Lake…read moreand Camp Far West) late in the summer. The winner is Rollins Lake! Hadnt been here in, oh, I would say 20ish years. So I didn't recognize anything which means I came in with a fresh, open mind. First off the drive up to the lake is really nice. My wife even commented how she loved the trees and the view of the lake was gorgeous. The price was pretty decent, boat and truck was $13 for the day. We put the boat in at Long Ravine Campground which was called Cecil's Cove I believe. The young men at the gate were SUPER friendly, big thumbs up for that. The ramp is a little small and the two parking lots are set up kind of funny turning up a hill, but manageable. While cruising in the 5 mph zone you drive by the marina, the Store/Grill, swimming area, a cool slide that sits in the cove which you can slide off of it into the water, gas station(afraid to know how expensive it was) and boat rentals. I admit I liked the view of it all. The lake is a little on the small side but it also has huge fingers that weave deep into the mountains which are fun to drive into. Many of us commented on how clean the water was and the views were gorgeous. And get this, the water level was seriously 10 feet from maximum capacity. It looked like early summer. I really couldn't believe how full the lake was. We beached up all day and all of us had fun, including the dogs. You have a new fan Rollins Lake. A new fan indeed and I will see you soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmCcq4yhrMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Siwto_JvBkY

The camp was right next to Rollins Lake. A fairly decent oasis amidst the trees in Nevada county. Water was cold which was heaven sent since the outside temperature was averaging around 90. The sand bar was a great hangout place. We took an aluminum boat out to the "bar" which was the only mistake. Can you say "ouch." Aluminum and heat don't mix y'all. Regardless, a good time was had by all. If you need to get away from the heat of SAC, go to this lake.

On a recent mild sunny winter weekend afternoon, I visited the Halsey Forebay fishing access area…read more It's a water reservoir that's occasionally stocked with trout and crawfish. It's managed by PG&E. The reservoir is a lake with shallow rocky edges. It's just for casting fishing, no humans or animals should go into the water. The access and parking is FREE. And as always, anglers 16 and older need a CA fishing license to fish. I didn't fish here. I looked about and soaked in the sights though. It was rusticly beautiful. However the perimeter doesn't have any shade trees. But vibes were super quiet, I call it library fishing. Shhhh. As I walked about the perimeter of the lake, I noticed folks were quiet even amongst their own groups. Even the elementary school age children there were super quiet. An incredible feat. QuietPlace. And about the fishing situation, not much luck with the anglers that day. Stock was low. Near the parking lot is a short concrete pier with fishing rod holders. This is closest to the water shed. The picnic area is across the watershed. To get to the area from the parking lot, you will have to walk, on a narrow steel grate walkway, over the watershed. The rushing water provides for a dizzying visual effect. The picnic area is set back enough from the lake so if you bring the kiddos, this is the area where they can go about hooting n hollering. The area has 3-4 concrete picnic tables and a several bbq pits. It's first come, first serve. This area is not paved, dirt packed; shaded with big growth trees. Plus let me tell you I learned the hard way that the walking path doesn't connect fully around the lake. I don't recommend attempting the mythical loop. The path is mostly gravel with the other parts being dirt. Watch where you step; there was a lot of poop along the trail. There is a stretch of the path that ends and funnels you out to the narrow bike lane on Christian Valley Road near Bancroft Road. There is no adjacent room to the side of the bike lane, only a chain link fence. Cars are going 50plus miles a hour inches away from you; and they are on a curve. So wait until traffic clears for a significant distance to hightail yourself across that stretch which runs about 50 feet. Don't try to walk with cars coming at you; don't risk getting impaled by a side view mirror or worse. There is a paved parking lot and a public restrooms with vault toilets. Sorry ladies, I can't provide any additional info about the restrooms. As always, I try my best to avoid public park restrooms. But at least they have a restrooms. And to add the landscape of area doesn't provide for any natural discrete spots to answer the call of nature.

It's gorgeous out here…read more.. We've been fishing at Halsey Forebay Picnic Area quite a few times now. We've caught trout and crawfish! Along with some gnarly mosquito bites. You can pull in and park in a parking space where it leads right up some picnic benches. Just beyond that, a l is a fence with holders for your pole. About 10-12 of them lined up. If you are fishing here, this is where having a 2nd and 3rd pole comes in handy - just be sure to get your license for that!! The water current starts off strong over here and, depending on what you are using, could float downward towards our into the next person's line, so use wisely! Figure it out! On this cool evening, we were catching them left and right. Everyone fishing here is so friendly. It's fun to meet people and see what they're using. When the sun goes down, and most of the heat goes away, Halsey Forebay becomes a sight for sore eyes... as I said... so gorgeous
