I stopped on my way by on 94 and Yelp is the reason I stopped. I started with the steak and potato…read moresoup which was creamy and delicious. Steak was soft and well seasoned. The review of the Reuben motivated me to get it and I am SO HAPPY I did. I wanted to lose myself in that sandwich. Tender meat that melts with each bite. It was well balanced with the flavors. I got the American fries as a side which were crispy they way I like them. Just as the other review stated it was a very filling meal. I took half home. The only negative is is live too far away to eat here weekly!!!

This was not good. I stopped by for breakfast. The place is attached to a gas station. I've had some great food from similarly arranged restaurants, but... not this time. I had a veggie omelet with hash browns and OJ. I tried to figure out what order to talk about these in, since they were all really, really bad. The veggie omelet... it was bad. The green onions, if I had to guess, had been prepped a few days earlier. They were greyish-green. Not close to fresh. It was just nasty. The hash browns.... they were bad. I've literally never had bad hash browns until I ate here. There was just this flavor.... it wasn't good at all. The OJ was sour. Yelp says to talk about the ambiance. There were some really offensive people playing dice at one of the tables. They were regulars. It was a pleasant distraction from the food. In short- don't eat here.

A friend had recommended checking out the Foxhole after her last visit here - she said the small…read moretown vibe was great and the old fashioned were great. I've always liked the Sparta side of Fort McCoy better than Tomah, as it just seems more like an individual small town versus a big-box thoroughfare. What a wonderful recommendation, I had a fantastic visit. My co-worker can second the old fashioneds! Staff was super friendly and service was attentive. Clearly there are locals and regulars coming in that know each other by name, but being out-of-towners we were still treated the same and welcomed. We sat at the bar (always my preference), but there is plenty of restaurant seating if you come here with a group or with your family. They have a decent beer selection on tap, and the menu can cover pretty much all appetites. I ordered the veggie burger, which was somewhat generic but nevertheless tasty and I ate the whole thing. Overall, I'd say the food here is good - maybe nothing crazy unique, but good, especially with the somewhat limited options in the area if you want to stay away from chains and fast food. I will absolutely be back for another dinner and continue to try out options on the menu. I'd really love to do the fish fry if I'm ever here on a Friday night. But, who needs dinner when you have dessert?! OMG I'd seen some photos of their desserts online, and even though I'm not usually a dessert person, these photos drove me here that night! Wow. The Brandy Alexander is absolutely incredible. It's large but my co-worker and I each ordered our own (and finished it completely). Anyone can make a Brandy Alexander you sip from a cup... but this was like a soft serve goblet of ice cream with the booze mixed in throughout. The BEST. I will be back here every time I'm in the area just for this (and then good food and beer is always a nice add-on).

Pan fried walleye was great! Salad bar looked sketchy, but don't they all…read more The place was dark and had a definite pub vibe going for it.

Left totally satisfied and was in and out in 30 minutes. We were in a hurry. Brought friends back for dinner. They live in the area but had never been there. The ladies had pulled pork sliders with baked beans. My guy friend had perfectly smoked half rack of ribs along with 1/4 pound brisket with baked beans. I had the whole 1/4 brisket with baked beans and potato salad. Sides were fantastic. And those baked beans, I could eat a pail of them. Highly recommend without any reservations. My number one BBQ place in the Midwest. Can't miss, the food is superb and our waitress, Molly J was outstanding.

We are out-of-towners that found this joint on a maps search. Based on the reviews I read from…read moreothers and the lack of BBQ options in our area, I was very excited to try this place. However, it didn't quite live up to the hype. My husband had the poutine with brisket (pictured), he ate most of it, but when asked for his thoughts on it he said the brisket seemed to have more pieces of fat than actual meat. The cornbread side he ordered was good though, with just the right amount of sweetness. I had a pulled pork sandwich with baked beans and potato salad. The beans had so many good reviews I felt compelled to try them, and they weren't bad just seemed like basic canned beans with some pulled pork thrown in. The pulled pork for the sandwich was fine, but came smothered in what appeared to be paprika, nothing special. Potato salad ingredients were nicely sized, but it was bland. The barbecue sauce might be homemade and you could feel the grittiness of the sugar crystals in it, which was surprising but good, and had a little bit of heat to it. I snuck a bite of my kids' mac and cheese after my two year old took a bite and said, "bleck." The Mac and cheese had the right amount of creaminess and the noodles were cooked to the right amount of tenderness to keep it from tasting like it's been sitting all day, but it seemed very bland and needed salt to be enjoyable. The pickles were very good. It took nearly thirty minutes to receive our food, but our server was very prompt in welcoming us and getting drinks to the table. They were also very friendly when my little one didn't want to stay seated and kept thinking the ATM was her personal computer, the struggle was real after being strapped in a car seat for the last 1.5 hours. There is a popcorn machine that offers free popcorn and a couple different seasoning options to top it with. My kids enjoyed the popcorn while we waited for our food. When I asked my kids what they thought of our new restaurant find, my middle daughter (10) commented on how the bartender was very loud and talked a lot. She could be heard regardless of which end of the restaurant she was on. I noticed the same thing, but thought maybe it was just me. We were fed, but probably won't return. This restaurant is located next to a railroad track in the middle of a very wooded area and the deer were abundant. We had to slow at least four times within 5 miles of the restaurant for deer crossing the road.

Very easy to find with the giant sign on the side of the trail. Overall, the visit was solid. We got there about 1245 right as the lunch rush hour was dying down. The staff was very busy with how many patrons were there. We did end up having to wait a bit to get served but honestly wasn't that bad. The waiter/manager guy was very perturbed about our wait and offered us complimentary drinks. We declined as we felt as though we weren't waiting that long. I got the jalapeño burger which was delicious after the bike ride. The pie is an absolute must and I'd feel disgusted by anyone who passes up on it. We got the pecan cream which to say it was a treat for the taste buds would be an understatement. It was worth every penny. Overall, the food was great for a mid bike of 24 miles. The service really wasn't that long of a wait. We were in and out of there from 1245 to about 130? Really not bad despite how they acted like we were waiting a long time. The place is in an old school house which offers a unique setting! Cool old photos and decor.
