I went here to try something different. The location is by Inks lake Its buildings were built by the CCC or Civilian Conservation Corps, so there is a lot of history here. The buildings have a lot of character and unique qualities, reflecting the use of locally available materials. I would recommend visiting them while you wait for your tour, which you need to book online, in advance. There are two types of tours. The cavern is full of crystals and other interesting features. You can actually make a day of it and have lunch inside Jim, our guide, was knowledgeable, helpful and entertaining. Please bare in mind that the guides work for tips. Note to staff. Someone may want to mortar the gap over the first large arch over the first set of stairs leading into the cavern. read more

We had such a great time visiting! After being cooped up in the house for awhile we really wanted to get out, but it's so hot! A cave adventure was just the ticket. It's always a cool 68 degrees underground and we got to see some amazing things. We went on the walking tour, it was our first time in a cave and our guide, Sundance, was really great, he kept it light and fun and I totally wasn't even a little scared so if he says I was he's lying! Haha! He was super knowledgeable about caving and has been doing it for most of his life, I'm so glad we got him for our guide! We went for the 4pm tour which was great, but if you want to take advantage of everything the park has to offer get there early so you can hike around the trails then cool off in the cave. I would definitely go again, and I'm already telling my friends about it. The walking tour would be great for kids and adults alike. They have a wild tour if you want to get crazy but this was enough adventure for a Monday afternoon and I loved it. Longhorn cave is a must see! Different from caves full of formations, it's got wide open limestone and dolomite passages. That is something you don't often see in show caves. And it has sections of big crystals which are quite beautiful. There's your bling! You'll also see some adorable tri-color bats, oh so small. Sean was a great guide, very laid back and informative. He did a great job. We never felt hurried...just a stroll through the cave. Be sure to add this lovely cave to your itinerary! Thanks for such a great visit. I live locally and use to work as a tour guide (my very first job through high school). This place has had some excellent changes! Gift shop is expanded and easy to shop. Updated bathrooms. Excellent portrayal of education set up. The tour guide was knowledgeable and he was also super friendly. First cave experience and certainly won't be my last! Honestly you can't really put a price on nature so the $20 admission was well worth it. Also have to mention how organized the park was checking everyone in even with it busy. This was pretty consistent as your walking through the tunnel and you pass other group tours as there was minimal disruption and more than enough spacing between timing of groups so you have more than enough time to fully enjoy every stop. The tour guides give you some info and cool facts at each stop and time to take plenty of photos. Will caution you there are times where the roof cave gets really low and you will need to bend low a few times and you will also spot some bats but they are harmless. The temperature inside was perfect but I'd still recommend to bring some water. Was pleasantly surprised to know how love the cave had been used by people in Texas and hope people continue to visit to support our other state parks! read more

We had a great experience at Longhorn Cavern State Park. We ordered the tickets online the day before and we're greeted by friendly staff in the visitor center. We had some time before our walking tour so we explored the observation tower built by the CCC. Our tour guide, Jaime, was fantastic. She answered all of our questions, was patient with our small group with a couple of toddlers, and seemed to know everything there was about the cavern. I recommend this tour, it was not long or strenuous, and there were some wonderful sights and we were informed of some neat history. read more

Definitely a cool little stop for those into the natural wonders of Texas. Since we were camping at the nearby Inks Lake, it was a no brainer to make this one of our nearby stops. This State Park works a bit differently than most. You are free to walk around the grounds, but if you want access to the caverns, you must pay the $17 for the guided tour. If someone in your group has an annual park pass, now is the time to whip it out for a small discount. Our tour guide was informative and led us down to the entrance of the cave, giving us some ground rules including no touching anything in the cave (except for one spot). If you brought a high power flashlight, you're in luck as it comes in handy. We we given a history of the cave and it's transformation from being a speakeasy hideaway, to a project for the CCC into a State park. There were a few small bats sleeping and within easy viewing. Lots of interesting growth in this still living cave. There were parts of the cave that were not accessible to the public, which is a shame, but it was still a good time! If you want to gets a reeaaaalll workout, sign up for a wild cave tour to get down and gritty. There's also a cool little display and write up on the CCC and it's history located near the park headquarters. read more

I left your establishment in tears. Jim was our tour guide. I came with my mom and 3 girls and my time there ended in some sort of a shouting match with my tour guide. You see I went back let my tour guide know that it bothered me that he called my 10 year old, special needs daighter ,"ridiculous ", on the tour. ( she was mildly uncomfortable on the tour, mainly breathing noticeably, not sobbing, shedding a tear or two in dark parts... but she was not loud..) It broke my heart to see this man call her ridiculous.. because she was doing AMAZING. He then said if he would have known she was special needs he would not have called her ridiculous, told me that I failed as a mom by not telling him, her diagnosis ahead of time. After all of the shouting he finally apologized. This shouting took place in the building in front of 2 other employees. It should not be hard to verify. This is not the 1st time my daughter Evelyn has been called a name by an adult and it wont be the last. But it all adds up... and eventually it hits her and she cries her self to sleep asking me why is she like this. Please educate your staff on special needs... and basic eduiquite. Every other person on the tour could tell that she had special needs.I find it somewhat unbelievable that he could not. read more

An amazing cavern with sooo much history!! Our tour guide was amazing and really knew some fantastic and personal stories that really brought the tour and the cavern to life!! I have two kids, almost 7 & 9, and they both did great! They stayed engaged, asked questions, and we all HAD FUN! There are lots of steps, 52 to be exact you have to climb down and then back up and there's crouching down to avoid TKOs, but if I can do it, anybody can!! It's a beautiful area, with great trails you can walk, a fabulous gift shop, and MINING!! We love mining/sluicing and scored some really awesome fossils and gems!! We enjoyed Longhorn Caverns immensely. The caverns were different from the others I have been to, easily walked, and the guide was fantastic. The tour went by quickly, and aside from a rather long stretch with a 3.5 foot ceiling, was very comfortable for all. You do want to dress in layers to accomodate the different temperatures and humidity and your own exertion, but it was a great tour. Much less stressful than Natural Bridge Caverns (very few stairs, much easier ticketing process). The gift shop was small, but had the needed patches and postcards ,and even an ICEE machine which was perfect post tour as a cool pick me up. We went to the caverns with our two young children, ages 5 and 7, and the tour itself had probably a dozen other kids under 12 and it was all easily run and smooth. read more

I have done the cavern tour a few times throughout my life, and it is interesting every time. It is absolutely beautiful and stunning both inside and outside the cave. Interesting formations, tie-ins to history, as well as pretty quartz sections, this cavern is worth a visit! Its not too long or difficult for most people. I recommend bringing cash to tip your tour guide too. read more

We loved our trip to visit the cavern! We found out about this place online from a tik tok video and can absolutely say that this was a must see bucket list place for any Texas Native. We drove up from San Antonio and it was a beautiful drive going through the hill country especially through blanco. The road that takes you to the cavern was a bit of a roller coaster ride so have fun but be safe lol! The parking was easy, and grabbing the tickets were simple. We did do a reservation and made it with 15 mins or so to spare before the tour started. DO NOT be late or they will NOT let you join the group. The restrooms are clean and indoors. Would recommend a water bottle and a light jacket for the walking tour. It's 90 mins and true for the time. They allow plenty of pictures so snap away but don't don't touch! Keep your eyes and heads peeled for some "chicken nuggets" through the cave. Our tour guide was soooo great! We HIGHLY recommend you request your tour with JIM!! We received such great dad jokes, and fun facts. We will definitely be back! You can also bring a cooler and have a picnic! Beautiful timing to sit and look at the bluebonnets. read more

I absolutely loved this place!! I was excited to see all the mysterious things this cave system had to reveal. It was an nice cool temperature due to the air stream which was very enjoyable as it was a million degrees outside. I was waiting for something to "pop out" at me and scare me half to death. This is not a place for people that suffer from claustrophobia!! Our guide was very informative but tended to speak with his eyes closed which was weird LOL. this year I brought my best friend and my 13 year old daughter back with me. I also requested Jim again! He does not disappoint! He was great! And my daughter loved him! She said he was funny ... next year I'm hoping to bring with me one of my other teens and I will once again request Jim!! He's very entertaining and very informative! Took the 1.5hr cave tour and it was fascinating. Saw some tiny bats up close! Beautiful ancient natural formations combined with depression-era history. You're allowed to photograph all along the tour and our guide was knowledgeable and amicable. There are also trails to hike, historical buildings, and a gift shop. Worth a drive! My first trip here was when I was 10 years old, back in 1966. This most recent trip was my third, and there is always something special about descending below the surface to see what nature has created, as well as hear the natural and human history as told by the knowledgeable guides. On this day we were lucky to have Jim who was not only knowledgeable but also entertaining. He is pictured here with my son. The tour lasts about 90 minutes and the time underground quickly passes. One admonishment I am compelled to make: This tour can be very enjoyable and educational for children, and the tour guides make them feel welcome. But if you decide to bring your kids, PLEASE ENSURE THAT THEY FOLLOW THE RULES AS STATED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TOUR. This is a fragile environment that the public has the opportunity to enjoy, but one unmanaged child can do a lot of damage. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed the cavern tour. Cheryl was our guide and she was excellent. I don't have children of my own, but she was especially good with the littles. We saw stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and some tiny bats too. I highly recommend this to all Texans, as it is an excellent reminder of our Lone Star history. read more
