We love to go to caves. This one had very few formations/ornaments in the cave. The guide was not very informative and began rushing us 30 minutes into a 90 minute tour because "I really have to pee" and "I do this to myself all the time", really? In the gift shop, we cracked a Geode and that was super fun. Two stars because the Geode kept it from being one. Tour not suitable for people with back problems because of lots of ducking under low ceilings, low as 4'8". read more

What a spectacular cavern! I knew it was going to be beautiful but it exceeded my expectations! I took a tour with Cheryl as our guide. Cheryl was a wonderful source of knowledge on the history of how this cavern was formed, the work that went into making it is what it is today, what the handful of different formations were made of and so much more. She had so much passion in immersing ourselves in this natural wonder. And she took great pride in safety. She made the tour even more memorable. We got to see a bat! I was so excited about this as other caverns I have visited I didn't get to see any. The terrain was very mild as me and some other patrons wore sandals, there is some lowering of the head on low parts but otherwise easy to navigate. There were children as young as 6 on the tour so it was easily doable. The tour is enough to enjoy but not too long where it felt monotonous. It is also the perfect activity to escape the summer heat as it stays at a constant 68 degrees. I never felt too cold though where I needed a light jacket. There is a gift shop and if you're a sucker for state park stickers, patches, or vintage looking postcards, they got them! There is also tshirts and books on the wildlife and fauna of Texas. There is a concession that I didn't peak at but I overheard they are pricey so pack something and enjoy a picnic one some of their trails. read more

The tour was full of interesting facts about the caves and the history of the area. The guide was extremely knowledgeable, and the tour was well-paced and engaging. The caves themselves were full of interesting formations. We got to explore several different chambers and learn about the unique underground ecology of the area. The guide was always on hand to explain the different features of the caves and had great jokes! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and educational experience. My wife and I visited Longhorn State Park for the first time today. We had such a wonderful time. We scheduled our cave tour in a 12:30 PM time slot. We arrived around 11:30 AM and got the opportunity to explore around for a while. The CCC-built architecture was pretty cool and inside were helpful pieces of information about the structures and the park in general. The gift shop also had some pretty awesome souvenirs!! When it came time for our cave tour we were lucky to be led by Mark!! Mark was very nice and knowledgeable throughout the whole tour of the cave--cracking jokes, sharing cave history, pointing out bats here and there and educating us on different rock formations and essentially how caves become caves and what happens within them over time. It made our experience!! It's mentioned once at the beginning, but we recommend bringing some cash in case you want to leave the tour guide a tip. A guide like Mark definitely deserves it. We were grateful. There are a lot of photo opportunities all over--in the cave and in the surrounding area. There's also a couple short hiking trails you can do after, literally 1.5 miles worth or so. Overall we had a great time and would definitely recommend it!! read more

This is a great day trip from Round Rock/Austin area and well worth a visit. The walk is long - about 90 minutes with breaks. There is tons of parking and snacks onsite. They let you bring only water into the cave; so make sure you have a snack before hand. There are parts of the walk that are narrow and the ceilings are low. If you are claustrophobic this trip probably isn't for you. read more

This is a wonderful cave experience for adults. The primary tour is 90 minutes long, with no touching or veering off the path, and no bathrooms. So advice: families, and young kiddos will not be happy on the tour. Come for everything offered up above. Merecia was a terrific guide. She was so personable; we didn't feel like the tour was an educational lecture. Also, she didn't stop us every 40 feet and point out a bat. I know that sounds silly, but after looking up to find 1 or 2, I'm done tipping my head upward. Let's get on with things!  So thank you Merecia! Merecia's tour was terrific because she has incredible international cave experiences she was able to share. It was wonderful. And she was so knowledgeable about this cave. Due to all of this, we left feeling inspired to do the Wild Cave Tour! This is an easy cave to tour. There are only 2 or 3 sections that are less than 5 feet tall, but they are well-lit and not scary. Certain areas have mats placed down so your feet grab them and you don't slip. We appreciated that on the declines. I will note that our group was small, so our experience may be different than a larger group that takes a long time to move thru the cave. So we may have been very fortunate. Lastly, regardless of your Guide, they are not government employees.  So please tip them! read more

Really great experience. There are places inside the cave that are a little difficult, but all in all a great cave. The steps to get down into the cave are VERY steep and no hand rail. Really, with a cave this old and this popular, put a dang hand rail!!! If cost is an issue, this is not a cheap outing. read more

We've been to a few caverns in the Texas area and this one has been our favorite by far. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The walk was an easy 1.5 miles (my hypotonic 7 year old kept up). It was a bit slippery and difficult in spots for tall people (had to duck a lot) overall it was a great experience & Id go back! read more

Black light cave tour is super cool. Worth the $$. You'll see the cave in a completely different light (pun intended). My husband and I had a great time and shout out to the park ranger who thought of this completely unique idea. Lights off, black lights on and various mineral structures become visible. I've been seeing this place as a bucket list item for places to visit in Texas. I've been planning to go for a few years and after playing it safe staying inside during COVID-19 pandemic I thought it would be great to go outside and have an experience. This was such a great, safe experience. I reserved my ticket online about 2 days before my visit. This might have only been possible because the virus is still looming and the weather had good chances of rain this day. So if you want to go you might want to figure out how far ahead you need to reserve your ticket. Look into the popular seasons. The park does have a gift shop and snack bar for you to pick up a quick bite. I arrived at the park an hour and a half before my selected tour time. I did this so I could hike the park a little before the tour. I was able to go do a quick hike which was about a mile and I looked around at some of the observation decks. For the cavern tour make sure to arrive on time as they start promptly. They announce the tour times over a loud speaker to have the group assemble. The tour of the cave is set for 90minutes and the distance is a little more than a mile but you get a lot of the history and to take in a lot of the views. The tours are not given by the park staff they are through a different organization. The cave stays a cool 68 all year around, towards the end I started to get goosebumps. Most of the tour you are able to walk upright, there were a few sections that went as low as 4'8" so some bending is required. Not a lot of climbing involved either, it's really an easy 1.1 mile walk through. This is an amazing experience and I recommend you take a trip to view and enjoy the caverns. read more

The cave temperature is perfect and houses some beautiful formations. There are only a few spots where you have to bend over to walk. There are also some areas where it's pretty easy to bonk your head. I watched a guy do it twice, but he was OK.....just had a sore head for a bit. There were two older people on our tour who walked with canes, and they had no problem maneuvering this cavern. Another couple brought their dog - ---- "dog friendly cavern." The dog was sweet, but in bad need of a doggie bath, so I tried to stay on the other end of the group from it :-D The guide was informative and friendly, but like many guides, needs to learn a few history lessons. One should never refer to Native Americans (who were some of the first modern humans to use the cave) as "savages." Settlers had just as many practices that were absolutely savage, but the guide never referred to settlers as savage. You'd think folks would know their history better in 2019, but I didn't allow him to ruin my tour. There are some actual educational sites that tell you a lot about the cavern. Like all things, the history is riddled with great sadness and great accomplishments, and many interesting curiosities. The tour takes about an hour. You can only walk around certain areas. There is still some work and excavation going on in the cavern. You can take pics without flash. I took a few, but feel you have to be there to see how pretty some formations are. The cave is home to some of the world's tiniest bats. They are really cute and were hanging out all over the ceilings. They offer a "wild cave tour" on Saturday mornings. I was not there on a Saturday, but hope to check this one out one day. This tour sounds exciting and you get to climb and get up close and personal with the cave. There is plenty of parking and a large park area to hike through after your cavern tour. read more

One of my favorite of the old CCC State Park works. It's a very small park until you go down the caves. Then it gets pretty long! The old / original visitor center is one of the most beautiful pieces of Parkitecture. All original stone built by hand in the 1930's. Wonderful balancing of old wood beams, wrought iron work, stones from the caves that still sparkle. Inside are a lot of old displays of pictures from when it was built and the cave. They all need to be freshened up a bit. You can explore all the old rooms and even climb the tower up top. Next door is the current visitor center. MUCH more modern, but was probably built when I was born and my adult sons call me old - so there it is. Very clean, a very small snack area and a nice set of merchandise to pull the dollars out of your pocket. In the back is a continuous loop of a video reel of the caves and area from the 1950's. It was awesome to get that flashback. The real part of the park is down the caves. You WILL wait. It is almost always busy so the tour time can be much later than you arrive. Buy them first! There are also nice nature trails and a lookout further into the park. Make sure that you don't miss that! Pro-tip: The first thing you should do is to get a ticket to the caverns. Since it takes a while, you can then check out the buildings with the time you have. Don't wander to the old buildings first even though they call you to climb around. read more

Such a FUN place to visit if you ask me! I've been to LHC quite a few times and every time it's been so much fun, I feel like a teenager at an amusement park when I go. The guides have so much knowledge of every aspect of the cave when you walk through it which adds to the intrigue of the whole deal! Then you get back and they turn out the lights and you have never seen such a darkness! It's darker than dark! You'll also find that you might wanna bring a light coat or sweater as it's very cool back in the caves. It could be 110° outside and still very chilly inside (I forget just how cold they keep it).. But anyway I absolutely recommend visiting Longhorn Caverns and I'll definitely be back myself. read more

We only live an hour from here so it wasn't exactly a world traveling experience but I would highly recommend doing the tour with Jim if you're in the area. This place was great! Stopped on the way south for a break in the drive and a good walk! Took the kids, they are 7 and 4 now. Took the walking tour, it was great! 90 minutes of pure entertainment. My 7 year old loves it, my four year old tolerated it. I've been on other cave tours and this one was a better one for sure. Definitely hit up the bathroom well before your time, bc it's busy and can make you late. If you have littles, take water! There is a small snack counter but there is not much more than snacks and lunchables, so plan ahead. The grounds are great for a picnic and to expire. Trails are short and manageable for all. read more

We stopped by here to take the tour. We had Steven who really seemed to enjoy his time taking us on the tour. The caves themselves are beautiful especially the crystal walls and tunnels. There's a little bit of everything on the tour, stalactites, stalagmites, flow stone, crytals and we were lucky to see one tricolor bat. The cave is quite cool and not humid like other caverns so it was nice to walk through.The path itself can be very intense with slippery floors and low ceilings with many inclines. So keep this in mind if you want to go on the tour. Also the stairs to get the to cave have no handrails and uneven rocks so be careful. The gift store has some fun t-shirts inside so check those out. Bathrooms were clean and the parking lot was pretty easy to deal with when getting there early. read more

A delightful educational adventure on a beautiful day. My fam of 4 (kids 3 and 10) loved our cave tour with Sammie and exploring the grounds and CCC buildings. The history is really interesting and the rock formations are stunning. If you have kiddos, highly recommend getting the bundled package of ticket plus big bag of gems- at the end of the tour, you get a big bag of stones, fossils, shark teeth, and arrowheads in a bunch of sand and pebbles that you sift through at a water station. Fun Adventure! This is so cool! Literally and figuratively, the caverns maintain a comfy temp of 68-degrees winter and summer so it's a great rainy weekend winter event for some overdue warmth or a summer excursion to some heat relief! While not rigorous there are some low areas you'll trek beneath - my 84 yr mom accompanied us and was fine with some stabilizing help from her kids. If claustrophobic you might find yourself cheerleading at various points but it's not close as much as low ceilings and the natural quartz formations are brilliant and beautiful. We got to see one (1) bat hanging from the ceiling, maybe the size of a wine bottle's cork so not at all intimidating but really cute (I swear!) with no potential of getting caught in your hair! The entrance to the caverns was a speakeasy during prohibition and the acoustics merit occasional piano concerts to this day (watching the delivery of a Steinway would be quite entertaining). This is a really cool, rather unique experience that's inexpensive, educational and entertaining. And ... If you've never been spelunking, give it a try (you can officially say you have though I doubt it actually qualifies)! read more

It was a rainy day so I did not hike the trails but the park had many oak trees and pretty grounds. The tour was well organized and the caves had varied room size and lots of cool rock formations. A bit rustic as you had to stoop many times and the paths were uneven. Lots of history, which they brought to life. Definitely interesting and worth the trip! Buy your tickets in advance as it was busy even on a rainy day. read more
