The Longhorn Steakhouse is always a great place to take mom to lunch. Sometimes we just have to keep costs down and their weekly lunch specials are great for that. We usually order the Wild West Shrimp appetizer for mom and then we'll order two lunch specials. Each lunch special comes with an entree and a choice of soup or salad. I highly recommend the cheeseburger or crispy chicken sandwich lunch specials. I usually pair them with the lobster bisque or a nice salad. Mmmm The restaurant is really beautiful and well maintained. The wait staff always take good care of us. They are always considerate of my mother's needs since she uses a walker and has difficulty with walking. We are always seated in a good location to meet mom's needs. Y'all should go by lunchtime. Number one our waiter was amazing. He was very attentive and refilled our glasses of sweet tea and water whenever he saw that they were running low. The Caesar salad just hits a certain spot and it's so good. I'm not really a steak person but my family is so I just got some chicken tenders and some mash and its yummy! We ate at the location in Harlingen. It was the first time I'd eaten at. LongHorn Steakhouse even though there is one within minutes of where we live in Mission. I was told by an acquaintance that this was a BBQ steakhouse but obviously he was mistaken. We arrived about an hour after the noon lunch rush and only had to wait ten minutes to get a table. However service was very slow. We waited 5 minutes or longer before anyone showed up to to even ask what we'd like to drink or give us a menu. We placed our drink order and some really nice warm, fresh out of the oven bread and butter arrived. That may have been the highlight of my meal. A short time later my Caesar salad arrived followed quickly by my upgraded, Outlaw Ribeye steak. I say upgraded because that is what the waitress said it was. A step up from the other ribeye steak on the menu. The salad was ok, nothing remarkable. Well dressed not overdressed. But since it arrived at nearly the same time as my steak I figured I'd better eat the steak while it was hot rather than eat the salad. That said, the steak had a good taste to it. Charbroiled with good char marks. It was cooked to a nice medium rare as ordered. But, if I'm being honest it wasn't very good. It was really, really tough. I thought that perhaps it was just the outer edges that were the problem but no, even when I tried some cuts from the middle of the steak. Unfortunately, those were also tough. They were juicy enough with decent flavor but just too tough for me to chew, swallow and get down. I ended up leaving almost the entire steak. My wife let the waitress know how much trouble I was having consuming the steak and she had the manager come by. She immediately asked if they could prepare another steak and while appreciated the effort I chose not to have them so so. I was a bit nauseated by trying to eat what I had eaten already and didn't want to eat anymore. In the end, over my protests, the manager took my entire meal off the bill; a nice gesture to be sure. Fortunately my wife thoroughly enjoyed her Chicken Fried Chicken with mashed Potatoes. We'll probably not be back in the area so this won't be a stop in the future. But I also won't likely try the local LongHorn SteakHouse based on this visit in Harlingen. read more

Chicken fried steak was perfectly cooked with All the right seasoning. Crispy breading and juicy and flavorful on the inside. Steak was a bit over cooked (medium well instead of medium) but still good. Every side was seasoned and cooked to perfection! Mashed potatoes were rich and creamy made from real potatoes. One of the few steakhouses in Harlingen, LongHorn is a great place to go to for a steak meal. They have a fairly attentive staff and very "Texas" longhorn styled restaurant (Longhorns on the walls, nice armchair like seating). I went with a group of four and we ordered the spicy chicken bites as an appetizer and each ordered a steak. I personally got the ribeye medium rare with their okra and side salad. The appetizer was okay; I wish the chicken was a little crispier, but I did enjoy the spicy tangy sauce. I did really enjoy the steak! It has been awhile since I've had steak, but I thought that they did a good job. It was tender, juicy and flavorful, and they really did cook it medium rare! As for the okra, I loved it! Absolutely delicious side dish. We also ordered the decadent chocolate cake for dessert; it is definitely enough to feed a whole table.
