Longwood Inn was just the place I needed on my recent trip to Boston. It was comfortable, had some character. And it was affordable without sacrificing quality. It was hard to find accommodations that fit the budget I had for a recent work trip, and I was so relieved to find Longwood Inn. First, Longwood Inn is a Victorian mansion originally built in the early 1900's. It was later made into the inn, which means it has some eccentricities. For example, the bathroom for my room was actually across the hall yet still private. I had a separate key just for that bathroom. My room was small yet clean and comfortable. It was easy to relax each night, while watching TV or reading in bed. And while I passed a few other guests while coming and going, I never heard them when I was in my room. It was very quiet. There are several common areas, including the foyer, dining room and patios. The kitchen is free for guests to use. Check in and out was easy, and I was able to get early access to my room to store my luggage. Lastly, Longwood Inn is a picturesque two blocks from the T stop. This was such a fortunate and affordable find during our recent jaunt to Boston. This is a gorgeous Victorian mansion which has been immaculately preserved and converted into a most beautiful safe space in Brookline to lay one's head. They offer subsided rates for individuals undergoing medical treatments at the nearby facilities which is so admirable, but also serve all. The architecture and the entire place is gorgeous and well kept. The common gathering areas of the sitting room with fireplace or outdoor areas are just wonderful. The shared kitchen area is so inviting, clean and casual, and all are so respectful. We met some wonderful folks from all over. This is not at all like a college dorm or party setting. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable and one can open the windows. That does not happen in a most places. The staff was friendly, the place was quiet and serene and within a short walking distance to the T and many restaurants and shops. Lovely and safe neighborhood. We took the T and the train, but on site parking is available. We are so glad we stayed and would highly recommend and look forward to staying here again-it will be our first choice. read more

I think this hotel has a lot of potential but is not living up to that potential! I love the location! This hotel is located in a cute neighborhood, has free parking and lots of greenery nearby. It's also pretty affordable relative to other hotels in Boston. I also generally liked the room. It was plenty big and the bathroom was nice. However, as a lot of other reviews say, the air conditioning could be better. I also wish there was a fridge or a microwave in the room. Additionally, I didn't have a good experience with the front desk. They didn't seem like they cared about my experience *at all* and I any time I asked a question they were not interested in helping. read more

If you're into cozy, historical places to stay, then this is definitely the place for you. If you are not one of those people, like myself, well this is still definitely the place for you! I was searching for a place to stay near Fenway Park for the night while I was visiting with my 3 friends. We didn't want to spend $600 for a night and I happened to stumble upon this place. The reviews were outstanding, they offered free parking and the price was amazing. It seem to be too good to be true but it wasn't. It's situated in a residential neighborhood exactly 1 mile from the ballpark, an easy and very safe walk to and from, even late at night. There is a hospital very close and we saw lots of nurses, doctors and students walking around at all hours. There is a park just behind the Inn and a larger park where lots of people were walking and jogging just down the street, everything around was very clean and quiet. Barbara, the lady at the front desk was super sweet and helpful in letting us know about all the amenities. There is a fully stocked full kitchen where you can cook your meals should you choose (and a communal dining room to eat at) the refrigerator was full of food from guests staying neatly labeled by room. There are coffee makers, free coffee/tea so you can make your own but you have to bring your own milk/sugar substitutes because there is only powdered milk/sugar available. Be courteous and clean up after yourself as this is not included in your housekeeping. There is a large deck just past the dining area with tables that overlook a small park and a small patio in front with a few more tables. We got a room with 2 queen beds and a private bathroom, it was exceptionally clean and felt more like a room at home rather than a hotel, perfect for us. Bonus: I get up really early and the door did not make a sound! This has become a favorite for me and one I will look into the next time I stay in the city. read more

I don't like to get bad reviews but sometimes it's just so bad that I feel a sense of responsibility for others. Costs of staying at hotels in Boston is very expensive so we found a deal to stay at the Longwood inn. but then there's the old saying that says you get what you pay for, and that was certainly the case. Here we arrived late from the west coast, exhausted, checked into our room, which we had pre-paid for, and the smell of turpentine it was so strong we asked to be moved to another room, we were moved to another room but that rooms air conditioning didn't work and it only had one bed we had requested to we were exhausted so we went ahead and excepted the room and figured we deal with it tomorrow regretfully the hotel is sold out there wasn't much we could do. Our room is supposed to include a full breakfast at the restaurant down below but of course we went out with her coupon. They said it was good for a muffin and a cup of coffee. We went back up to the front desk and ask them about it, and they said that absolutely was not the case and sent us back down but we got the same response, additionally, the restaurants not open on the weekends, so of course, the time that we were staying there that part of our package was not usable all in all it was terrible experience along with N. and I would not recommend anyone staying there if you have other choices. It's a nice location if you want to be in that part of town which is very nice and not too far from friendly park, but besides that we would not stay there again. read more

Stayed 2 nights while in Boston for a medical appointment for my child at Boston Children's Hospital. Highly recommend! Very safe neighborhood. Easy half mile walk to the hospitals and dining options. The T station is just a couple blocks away. Nice park behind the inn, as well as near by walking trails. The inn itself is very quiet. We rarely encountered other people, despite it being at capacity each night. We had a spacious corner room. It was very bright and clean. Free parking was also a plus. We parked on arrival and didn't move our vehicle again until we left. Everything was very walkable. Will definitely stay here again for any follow up appointments at Boston Children's. read more

Not impressed at all! We were staying there because it is close to the hospital. The room was nice enough but the internet is awful. The day of checkout housekeeping was banging on the door at 8:00am. Checkout is noon. They insist you use their garage and then charge you for using it. They definitely nickel and dime you. I realize that anything near Boston is going to be expensive, however the Longwood Inn is not a full service hotel, in fact it is basically a no service hotel; they do not even have someone working the front desk after 9pm. I think it is a little extreme to charge the same price as several of the other nearby hotels without any of the same offerings. Atmosphere -It is gorgeous. I would love to stay at a place like this for Halloween, or have a murder mystery party here as it reminds me of the board game clue. The rooms were also very clean, although there was a bit of clutter in the parking lot. Customer Service -The front desk person was extremly nice, although not accessible (I.E not there) after 9pm. Luckily we didn't require late check in, but if we did that would have obviously been a problem. Noise Level I obviously can't speak for all the rooms, as I only stayed in one, but there was a fair bit of a noise from outside that kept me up a good deal of the night. The inside itself wasn't noisy and the other guest were respectful and quiet, but the Inn is located on a busy street with a lot of cars and people walking on the sidewalk and there was no way to drown out that noise. Location It wasn't in the greatest neighborhood, which would have been fine if the price reflected that, but the amount paid for the room didn't reflect where this inn was located. Overall -It is a very nice place, I just do not think its worth the price. If you get a good deal on this inn by all means swoop it up, but for the same price I paid, there are much nicer places in the area. read more

** Basic summary: A great place to spend the weekend and ideal for a Shabbat stay! ** Delightful former mansion adapted as a delightful little inn! As we walked up to the building, my teen and preteen children told each other that Mom was going to like this place, since it's so old-fashioned. After we explored the entry way, dining room, and kitchen, they were warming up, and when we got into the room they had to admit they liked it too! The room was small but clean with plenty of light, and the attached bathroom was spacious. We had access to a thermostat. The building is lovely and well-maintained. The staff members we met are extremely pleasant and personable, and cheerfully accommodated any need we had, including our needs for the Jewish Shabbat. This is in fact an ideal place to stay for Shabbat, as the rooms all use physical keys and there are no automatic doors. It is in easy walking distance of one of the main local synagogues. The communal kitchen is in full working order and has a counter for eating at, and the other guests we bumped into there were all pleasant and lovely. There is also a patio available, which we enjoyed sitting on in the afternoon. The ambience here is a lot of fun. My preteen daughter loved walking up the main staircase pretending to be the lady of the house, and then up the 'servants' staircase' pretending to be a chambermaid. She was also thrilled to see the park directly behind the building. We would love to know the history of the building! It should be noted that this inn is not hugely accessible. There are some rooms on the ground floor, but we did not see an elevator that a person in a wheelchair might use to access the upper floors. The room that we had was, as noted, relatively small and similarly could be difficult for a person with mobility issues to use. If this is a consideration for you, call ahead to see if the ground floor rooms could be right for you! read more

AT LEAST IT WAS CHEAP... We planned to stay here for the weekend while shopping for apartments in the Brookline area. When making arrangements, I specified that we were taking a red eye and were arriving early Friday morning. When we got there Friday morning, there were a number of envelopes (with what I'm assuming were keys to various rooms available). None with our names on them, however. We called to see if we could get a room (granted, it was 6:30, so I'm sure I pissed somebody off), we were told nothing would be available until 9am. Fair enough. When we came back at 9, we were told our room would not be available, but they were able to put us in another room while we grabbed a few hours of shut eye. We got a sizeable room with a tiny private shower (and a shower head that sandblasted us awake). All in all, the place itself was ok, but service was lacking. The inn keeper wasn't the most engaging individual and the night manager was less than friendly. Location was perfect for where we wanted to be, but I'd recommend looking elsewhere before checking this place out. read more

A very comfortable historic inn on a quiet residential street not far from Boston College. Walking distance, about 10-15 minutes to shops and restaurants in Brookline, MA. The atmosphere was inviting with full access to all the public rooms including laundry. The only downside for this inn as a B&B is that they don't serve a continental breakfast. Yet as an option the owners do give you full access to a modern kitchen to prepare meals yourself. Parking in back is free which is a huge plus in a city with mostly residential permit street parking. read more

We stayed here during our trip to Boston, and overall it was a pleasant experience. It was the cheapest option we could find and at a good location, about halfway between Boston and where my brother lived in Newton. The neighborhood was nice and it was a short walk away from public transit and a street full of shopping and dining options. We had planned to take public transit but ended up not utilizing it at all since we went to see my brother often during our stay, and Newton isn't really a convenient place to get to IMO. However, if you plan to just go East of the inn, the public transit would have been a great thing to use, and much cheaper too! Several factors went into selecting Longwood Inn. As I had mentioned before, it was one of the cheapest options in the Boston/Greater Boston area. It was also near public transit. Third, it had free parking behind the inn. Did you know how ridiculous parking/driving in general is in Boston?!?! I had no idea, but I can definitely tell you that I am SO grateful that we had free parking to come back to every night during our trip. Most hotels in California, and so far every hotel I have been to, offer free parking, if not free valet. In Boston, I was looking at 25, 30, even 45 dollars a night for parking! At the hotel you're staying at! How insane is that?! I've never heard of such nonsense. So yes, the free parking at Longwood was a huge selling point. The manager and staff are very professional and courteous, the room was clean and tidy, and we had our own private bathroom across the hall. They had a laundry room and kitchen that was shared with all the guests, and free wifi. Basically all the basics, they had covered. Reservations were a cinch to make as well. read more

I have just had a very unpleasant encounter with this establishment over the disappearance of a gift basket that was delivered to the Longwood Inn. On Monday, November 28th, Wholefoods delivered a gift basket filled with munchies intended for friends who I believed had just checked in. However, it turns out that my friends had checked into a hotel of a very similar name just down the same road: The Inn at Longwood Medical. But instead of informing the delivery driver that those guests were not staying there, the gift basket was apparently accepted, and it subsequently disappeared. Now this is where the run-around and obfuscation starts, and like they say, the cover up is always worse than the crime! I called the Inn on Nov 30th to try and track down the gift basket, and was informed that the front-desk person on duty at the time of delivery was "Michael." So I managed to reach this Michael on the evening of Dec 1st. At first he denied that he was working at the time of delivery. Then he said a guest could have stolen the gift basket in which case he could do nothing about it. I then asked him for his manager or his owner's contact details. Of course he told me he didn't have an email or phone number for either of them. Then he put me on hold, but I could overhear him in the background on another line jabbering on about the issue. When he got back to me I told him I had overheard his conversation. He finally admitted it was his manager. After a lot of pressing and being put on hold twice more, he divulged the manager's name along with her phone number and email. Her name was Barbara although her email was Jasmin someone-or-other at gmail. (He couldn't explain why she didn't have an email linked to the Inn under her own name.) I immediately tried to call Barbara/Jasmin but, of course, no one picked up. So I called Michael back and informed him I was going to report the matter to the police. He laughed and hung up the phone. However, he must have immediately informed Barbara/Jasmin about this development because 30 seconds later Barbara/Jasmin rang me. She was a little difficult to understand because of her thick Hispanic accent, but she said she was the manager and that she knew nothing of any gift basket. So I asked her for the owner's contact details. She then claimed that she was, in fact, the "2nd owner" and that the "1st owner" (Roger Beckert) had left that very day for California and would be incommunicado till April 2017. She also had "no idea" of his phone number or email. She also mentioned that Mr. Beckert "wasn't good with computers" so that is why he didn't have an email address. She told me, however, that she would go to the Inn tomorrow and check security footage "even though it was her day off." I asked her for a time I could meet her there to review the footage with her, but she said she had three different appointments so couldn't give me a time. Meantime, I was irritated enough to file a police report. It was only a $55 gift basket, but whether you're taken for $55 or $55K you still kinda feel like you were taken. At least I hope someone enjoyed those munchies! read more

Cheaper alternative to the Best Western Inn at Longwood. It is located a couple of blocks further away from the medical area though, so it's not as convenient. It does put it only a couple blocks away from Coolidge Corner which is a great place to catch dinner. Unless you get the one private room, you'll have to share a bathroom. There's a common kitchen for everyone's use which is pretty clean. This is a 3 story Victorian house that's converted to a hotel. There is only someone there certain hours of the week, otherwise, you pick up and drop off your keys on your own. The front door is kept unlocked, but it's a pretty safe neighborhood. read more

This is a very unique place. I set eyes on it at night with the Inn lit and a sign post with its name in gold hanging just outside the walkway. I had arrived late and so the Inn's manager made special arrangements so that I could pick up the keys and not have to sign in until the next day. There is a sense of history as soon as you walk into this place. It's quiet and clean. The dark wood, lamp lighting, high ceilings, and New England furniture is an experience in itself to discover. There is a large framed black and white photograph of JFK on the wall as you walk up the carpeted stairwell to your assigned room. For those who are unaware, Brookline, MA is the birthplace of JFK (5/29/1917) and Longwood Inn was built around the time of the 35th's US president's birth. The bathrooms have all been renovated from sink to tile and paintwork. LCD screen t.v., very comfortable bed, multiple lamp lights to turn or not to turn on, and free wi-fi make this place very cozy and relaxing. Be prepared for a communal kitchen to share with the rest of the guests along with the dining and living room. Free parking. Also walking distance to Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Center, Trader Joes and a sting of affordable restaurants just 3 mintues walk from the Inn. read more

Earlier this month my husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the longwood inn for the 2nd time. I had called to book the room sometime in December and spoke with john, the manager. You can only reserve rooms via phone, email or fax no online booking. I recommend calling. It was an easier and seamless conversation. He asked that I mail a check- you can do just a deposit or the full amount, I chose the latter. I received a confirmation email once he received my check which required a response. That was the trickiest part of this whole process but never the less I got it done. When we got there an envelope with our name was waiting with our room key, easy enough. Check out process was simple too. I love this place because it is quiet, unique, has parking and is stunning. The foyer and lounge are made with rich dark wood and gorgeous antique furniture. I haven't had the pleasure of visiting in the summer but the deck looks lovely. Both times are rooms have been great! Comfy beds, updated bathrooms, warm and cozy. I love the mix longwood inn offers of old Bostonian and modern features. I highly recommend, especially for parents/family attending any events at BU as it's only a 1/2 mile away. read more

The rooms were clean and comfortable and it was a treat to stay in a beautifully-decorated Victorian-style building with character. The staff was friendly and helpful, and there is a kitchen with community refrigerator and dining room downstairs that we utilized when we got takeout and saved the rest for later. I came to The Longwood Inn from southern AL because my infant grandson had open heart surgery at Children's Hospital in Boston. The rates were affordable, the staff was compassionate and the room was comfortable. The Inn is in a very safe area, so I was not worried about walking to and from the hospital (about 1/2 mi.). I spent 7 nights at The Longwood and was so impressed. I definitely will stay here when we return to Children's Hospital for future surgeries. read more

My family and I stayed at the Longwood Inn in order to watch our daughter run the Boston Marathon. We were very pleased with the accommodations. We had originally made reservations at a much more expensive hotel in Brookline, but when I found the Longwood Inn online, it looked very quaint and it is. There is a shared kitchen which was much used by others. We were able to make coffee in the morning and allow others to drink what we didn't. The beds were comfortable and clean. The room in general was very clean. Accessibility to public transit was a huge plus as we did not have a vehicle. Also, the town of Brookline is very cute. My only complaint would be the inconsistency of the Wifi. My kids needed to get online to do some homework and my daughter had been called to Skype with a news station from our hometown to discuss the bombing at the marathon. The Wifi did not seem to stay connected and when it was connected it was pretty slow. Beautiful neighborhood. Trader Joe's down the street and lots of eateries and shops within walking distance. read more

I would not hesitate to stay here again. The Longwood Inn is a charming Victorian mansion, that has been converted into an inn. Our room was comfortable, and plenty big for two, though some might find it small. The staff was courteous and the service was good. For the most part, once we got our keys, we didn't need to interact with anyone. There is a good sized parking lot behind the inn, which was fantastic! The location is great, with nice restaurants and stores just a few streets away. There is a kitchen that you can use, if you want. We chose to try the local restaurants instead. Don't ruin your time in Boston. Stay away from this place! Below I tell how I and my wife were treated by Longwood Inn receptionist and the owner yesterday evening. I found the address and phone number of Longwood Inn on its web page online about a month ago. I booked a room for two for one night. When we arrived there yesterday evening, a lady in the reception office told the booking was actually for another hotel of the same owner. I said we were never told about that during the booking or after. All we knew is the address and phone written on their web page. We were given three options: 1) Pay an extra $60 to stay at Longwood Inn for the night. 2) Cancel the reservation and get a refund of $99. 3) Go to the other hotel which is at Crystal Cove. The lady told cab fare to there is $30. I told the lady it is their responsibility to pay for the cab fare in this case. She called the owner to ask about it, then refused to pay the cab fare. We then asked the lady to let us decide what to do. It was about 4:55 pm and the lady told she will close the office and leave in five minutes. We were looking online for another other hotel nearby, and we were trying to reach a friend to crash in for the night. A few minutes later, the lady said we had to tell if we want to cancel the booking to get a refund or leave the premises. We did not leave and told her that we want to sit in the lobby until we find a place to go or they solve the problem another way. The lady told she will call the police. I said, "Go ahead". She then said the owner wants to talk to me on the phone. The owner said that we had no place to stay in both hotels, and that we had to leave or he will send police. I said "Go ahead". The police came a few minutes later and asked us to leave the premises. So we did. Now, you may notice that, above story does not contain any personal opinions or feelings. In fact, I deliberately presented just the facts about what happened, so that you can put yourself in our place and decide. If you think the way they book the rooms, the solutions they offer for an error, and the way they goodbye the people at their door are acceptable practices in running a hospitality business, then go ahead and book your room at Longwood Inn today! This is my second time staying at Longwood and it is definitely a place I would recommend to anyone on a budget. It is near the "D" line and Coolidge Corner is in walking distance. Due to the close proximity of the Longwood D line stop, one is able to get into the heart of Boston with convenience. One is also able to walk up St Paul ave and catch a B line to visit Chestnut Hill (Boston College). This is a bit of a hike, maybe about a mile, but the view along the way makes it worth it. Both times I had my own room and shower which was a big plus. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars was that it lacked breakfast options. All in all, I found both of my stays here to be very pleasant. read more

My son was having surgery and we needed to stay a night somewhere close to Children's Hospital. We got there late after a 3 hour drive with my 11 month old son. The FIRST room they gave us was never cleaned. We walked in and there was stuff all over the floor, it stunk horribly, it was a total mess. They moved us to a different room but it wasn't much better. It still stunk, there was mints on the bed( not from the hotel), there was holes in the curtains and hair all over the bathroom. I won't recommend this hotel to anyone. The ONLY two nice things about it was the staff wasn't that bad. They were understandable and gave us our money back for the overpriced room. And that its convent being right next door to the hospital. read more
