Beware of this company,everything in their website is FALSE!! they have no integrity, there is NOT TRANSPARENCY AT ALL and the owner "Jody Harris Stern" will call you all kind of nasty names when questioning about your dog (the one you paid for already). I have been trying to adopt a dog with this rescue since December 18th and have had nothing but all kinds of problems them. There was always excuse after excuse (I asked for pictures of the dog they took my money for) and was answered with rude " explanations " and was even told that I am not stable to own a dog because I was asking for pictures for 4 days in a row. ( on either day I've got no response). #1. Their dogs are not in Ridgefield CT like the website states. #2. To my surprise and only after I paid all the adoption fees ( vaccines, neutered) then I was told that the dog was located in Louisiana otherwise I would've considered rescuing from a local shelter. This company is obviously a scam and they do not care about the dogs they want adopted. Today 3 days before we were supposed to pick up our rescue I was told that the dog wasn't vaccinated so he won't be coming on January 11th as promised and they don't know when he will be transport to CT (he's over 3 months old and should have had them by now). Puppy should be vaccinated between 8-12 weeks old. THEY TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THE WELL BEING OF THE DOG and every time I would ask questions I will get very rude responses and excuses for example: (she didn't communicate this with me because her aunt was dying, in two occasions I was told someone different was dying. That is her personal business and has nothing to do with her adopting business. Now the woman is being really nasty about my character. Please do not adopt from here, there are other places where they really care about the well being of the dogs and will treat you with respect. My spouse and I have been involved in animal rescue efforts and rescue organizations for over 25 years. In that time we have seen and experienced so much: including lots of good, a bit too much bad and unfortunately some awfully ugly things. We take this all volunteer work very seriously as we both love animals and have had pets as children and throughout most of our adult lives. We don't just jump into helping a rescue organization without getting to know the principals of the group and agreeing with their goals and seeing their sincerity and conviction in attaining those goals in a proper and moral way. When we first found Looking Glass Animal Rescue (LGAR) we were impressed with the vision and dedication of one of its founders, Jody Harris-Stern. She is caring and compassionate, she is warm and welcoming and she is transparent about what she and her group are trying to accomplish in this often overwhelmed and under-resourced world of animal rescue. In the 5 plus years we have volunteered with LGAR, we have seen first-hand the concern and incredible conviction of Jody and her group of dedicated volenteers in helping hundreds of over-looked and otherwise forgotten animals. Not to say LGAR or Jody is perfect, none of us can claim to be, but she is a person of utmost integrity and compassion and it shows on a regular basis in the way she runs her organization. We are proud to be volunteers with LGAR and we would not continue to pour our hearts, our labors, and more into this organization unless things were done the right way. Haters will hate and remember there are two sides to every story and there is no way to please 100% of the people encountered in the rescue world 100% of the time, but the manner in which LGAR is run they get right far more often than not and that is something they should be proud of! read more

I first came across LGAR in July 2018 when they were searching for fosters in my area. I signed on to fosters cats, and went through a very thorough background check before coming on board. I fostered 3 cats over the next year. As a foster I agreed to provide food for the cats and attend any vet appointments as necessary. I was also asked to attend any adoption events and to try and be available for potential adopters to visit or meet. This was all spelled out before signing on as a foster. LGAR was always responsive to any calls or emails I sent, quickly resolving any issues that arose. I adopted my last foster, a kitten that LGAR rescued who was found dumped on the road, blind and suffering from infection. They paid for her to have surgery done at a specialist to give her some of her eyesight back. We later found out she is deaf, which there is no current remedy for. Other rescues would have overlooked her as she was so sickly. But LGAR took a chance and pulled her, and she's now a 2.5 year old sassy spitfire who has some vision thanks to LGAR. At some point during my fostering I signed on to become an application processor. This consisted of calling potential adoptees, their references, vets etc to ensure the animals were going to the best homes possible. It is a very in depth process, no corners are cut. Some people become impatient with these processes but it's refreshing to see a rescue stick to it's principles. I recommend LGAR to everyone who is looking for a new pet. And if you're looking for some volunteer work and have some extra time, definitely consider them as well. read more

My story is one that is quite personal and one that comes from a deep love for this rescue. Five years ago Looking Glass posted a dog named Rosie in need of foster. I took one look at this dog and knew she would be part of our family. She had a serious medical disorder that required surgery to repair. I applied to foster her and after EXTENSIVE screening I received a phone call from Jody on a Sunday that Rosie's owners were going to dump her at the shelter. Well, we were not going to let that happen!! We picked her up that afternoon and she never left. Looking Glass covered not only one incredibly expensive surgery, but two. They never said no to anything she needed. Rosie made me fall head over heels for LGAR! So, I started volunteering. Then my part time turned to full time - All volunteer. We are not perfect by any stretch but I can tell you wholeheartedly that we care and give 100% all the time!! We learn from our mistakes and are always improving. We love these dogs that we save with everything we have in us. We cry, we celebrate, and we fight to give these animals the best lives possible. We give all heart and soul. It is true, it's hard when people that know nothing about us leave uneducated reviews. Its easy to be brave while hiding behind a keyboard. Many of our adopters end up volunteering with us. I adopted my youngest cat, petunia from looking glass. Any other rescue would have looked over the tiny, sickly and blind kitten left dumped on the side of the road. But Looking glass took her on, gave her great veterinary care and took on the immense expense of sending her to a specialist for corrective eye surgery so the little tot could see. Petunia is still partially blind and we later found she is deaf but because of this awesome rescue, she is a growing little bundle of fury and fun. She has some vision thanks to their quick response and she's set to live a long healthy life with us and our growing gaggle of misfit rescue babies. I recommend looking glass to anyone looking for a furry friend to add to the family. They are very responsive, quick to problem solve should anything arise and they answer any rescue questions I send them even if its not related to the kitty I got through them. read more

I have been working with Beth and Christi to adopt Delilah, who was saved from an awful cruelty case. One of the things that I am so impressed with is how thorough and efficient Beth has been to work with! She was great about telling me each step that I need to take, and she did an excellent job guiding me through the entire process. Delilah's foster mom, Christi, has been so incredibly helpful. I cannot say enough good things about the LGAR team. I adopted a special needs dog from Louisiana through them, and I felt so incredibly supported. I knew where he was every hour of transport. Once I got him, he had an extremely difficult first week. My adoption coordinator, Kristie, got me on a conference call with her, Judi, and Jodi EVERY NIGHT to go over what happened that day and offer advice.
