This is an exceptional place. The quality of service and care is outstanding. From the front desk through the entire eye examination process, everyone is very nice and professional. The appointment times run on schedule and are easy to schedule. The facilities are pleasant and well maintained. The examination equipment is up to date and the technicians do a good job with it. Dr. Johnson is very capable and has a wonderful personality. He listens and takes the time to make sure you receive the best treatment and care. He preforms surgery at a very modern facility located in Mills River. The same great service and attention is provided by the surgery center staff. I showed up for my yearly eye exam with Looking Glass Eye Center in Hendersonville. The purpose of the visit was two fold: examine a subconjunctival hemorrhage in one eye and perform a thorough eye exam. A nurse had me read an eye chart and then dilated my pupils in prep for exam but the doctor simply glanced at my face (no exam) and left. Then I was escorted out. Cost: $110. read more

I'd like to give six stars but can only manage four. Dr Verm is terrific, did a wonderful job of cataract surgery on both my eyes. The preparation and diagnostics were top-notch as was the use of the new Pardee surgery center in Mills River. I was one of their early patients at that center and all I can write is they get all the stars you can give them. Very, very good. The only downer is the office scheduling practices. Yes, Dr. Verm is busy, but once you're one-on-one he gives his undivided attention to you and your case. The scheduling is just too tight. The last time I was in for my follow-up after the second surgery, I waited for 45 minutes and there was a fellow who was scheduled a half-hour before me who was also waiting without any explanation. I left a note asking them to call me when they could schedule me with less wait time and when they did, they left a message (I was not available to answer). I called back and the person I talked had trouble calling up my record before finding I had been scheduled in 3+ weeks. For a follow-up. Thank goodness I'm not having problems other than a few floaters which were pre-briefed and, while treatable, are not of particular concern. So here's the deal- the medical side of the office does their work well and seems efficient but there is a huge issue with communication in this office between optical and medical. In my experience, which I will relate below, each side blamed the other for the problem and there was no resolution. Furthermore after my experience I have talked to acquaintances and they have also had issue with this office and communication- the potential patient should beware: After my eye exam in the first week of June I sat down with a lovely optical employee and tried on a few of the frames from the silhouette lines. I wanted to see one frame in a different color and she said it was no problem to order for me to try on. I was willing to go ahead and order lenses and frames but she insisted in me trying them on first in case the color didn't match the image- which I thought was wise. We talked at length and she took my name and number. She said she would order the frames for me to try on and call me when they were available. She also told me that my trial contacts would be available from the doctor's side and they would be in touch when those came in as well. After hearing nothing from either side of the office for *three weeks* I called. The receptionist at the doctor's confirmed my trial contacts were in but said I would have to call optical to see about the frames I wanted to try on and order. I decided to just stop by on June 29th because I suspected an issue with communication. I went to the medical side first and asked for the contacts and let them know I hadn't been contacted that they were available to try on. At this time I confirmed my phone number and it was correct. The receptionist did apologize for the confusion but also informed me that it is not their job to call and optical should have contacted me. I felt confused. I obviously don't know how the office works- what contact information is shared and what is not between each side. However, someone at the office *did* order my trial contacts with the correct phone number and name labeled on them but no one -from optical or medical- had the right information to let me know they had arrived? Since I was physically there I decided to walk over to optical and check in to see if the frames were in.  (I was originally told a week to expect the arrival). Two individuals were working with one person being helped. I waited at least fifteen minutes to speak with someone. No one acknowledged my presence or offered to help so I left. After everything that I had been through I decided to explore different opticians. I *love* ordering new glasses. I've worn glasses my entire life and it's never been this challenging to get an order through. It just shouldn't be this hard. Since this happened I have mentioned it to the staff and a manager from their optical side did contact me to see if there was "anything they could do" in mid July. They let me know they did not have the correct phone number which doesn't make sense as I had confirmed (as noted in the story above) that my contact information was correct. Furthermore they confirmed the frames I wanted to see/buy were *never* ordered and there was no note on my account that I had ever requested to see them. It was disappointing, weird and ultimately a waste of my time. I wrote back to the representative and related the story exactly above and let them know I was going to get my glasses from another source. They made no effort to apologize, explain or solve my problem since that time (it's been two weeks since our last communication). Overall my experience with the medical side was fine but both sides have issues with communication and optical side gave me a complete run around, which made things worse and the problem -to my knowledge- was never addressed. My only viable solution was to find a new optician. I understand this office has some of the best doctors in town, which is great, but they have some very real issues with day to day operations. I am opting to use one of our amazing opticians in town who give more time, attention and care to their customers. If I need further care from an ophthalmologist I might consider coming back upon referral. read more

Very poor customer service in the optical department. Long wait times and less than friendly staff. It's their policy to charge for nose pads even though my glasses were purchased there and were ill fitting. They have lost a customer for life over a measly $2.00 nose pad they wouldn't give me even though I paid over $600 for my new glasses. This policy is so petty and Looking Glass Optical is not worthy of even a penny of my money in the future. read more

I've been a patient of Dr Yoder for over 4 years.... He had managed my eye disease to perfection!! He has performed cataract surgery on both and implanted a new lens in my right eye. He is one of the finest Dr's and deeply caring person I've experienced in my 70 years. If it wasn't for him and the great staff at Looking Glass Eye center I would be blind by now. Dr Yoder and staff have accommodated my needs with the highest of professional standards. I can highly recommend the whole staff and Dr Yoder. He has saved my my sight to where I only need reading glasses and have crystal clear vision. read more

I Had an appointment at 8:30 yesterday morning, checked over all my information, gave the receptionist my insurance card, and sat down to wait. Meanwhile 4 people went in and back out and I was never called. I went to the receptionist and asked what was going on, she said you need a referral. Looking glass had sent me an appointment date and time as referred by my Dr. I then asked if I could just pay for it, she asked the Dr would that be ok and told me no! Would I like to reschedule.. What? You sent me the date and time to be there! Avoid this place at all costs, it cost me a days work, as I planned in advance and had scheduled the day off at my job. read more

Dr Alan Verm preformed laser surgery on my right eye Monday morning. Went back today Wed. for check up. His evulation of me was "perfect" just what I wanted to hear. Had Lasix in 2003 and just needed an update. My condition is just as he said it sould be. I am trying this without contacts or glasses. read more

Eye exam with Dr. Williams today. He was totally Uninterested in me as a patient or my eyesight. His only interest was his lunch order which he discussed at length with his nurse. I was nothing but a paycheck and a nuisance. If you want a doctor that is concerned or willing to answer your questions, dr. Williams is not your guy! read more

I found my experience with this business to be wondering if they were more interested in "making a buck" to really caring about customer needs. I had an eye exam 3 three years ago and had a pair of glasses made. When I went to have another pair made they said, my prescription had run out. Nothing unusual and just wanted another pair as back up. Since I have not had a change in my vision and only wanted another pair; I found this to be an example of "out to make a buck" from previous customers and not a place I will recommend. read more

My daughter needed her PD measured which is a simple 30 second measurement. They neglected to do this when she had her appointment. She went back on another day to get this done and they threw a fit because she didn't purchase her glasses there. They were rude and very unprofessional. read more

Dr. Volitile and her staff were friendly and professional. Took my insurance and handled all the paperwork. I am legally blind, and have a guide dog. They were very accommodating.They didnt try to reach down and love on or engage my dog with baby talk. (thank you for that!) I was given a thorough exam, treated very well and they handled all the paperwork required to sign me up for local services. Very caring, and on the ball. read more

Avoid at all costs! I've seen 3 different doctors at the Brevard office over the years and 2 out of 3 couldn't fit me with a contact prescription that was even close to 20/20. Staff are clearly not interested in customer service. If you wear contact lenses, you have to talk with the 1 person in the office who deals with contacts. If she's not available, you're out of luck. Don't waste your time and money. read more
